We use Silk soy milk.. DD was dairy sensitive and it's WAY better for her.. plus cow's milk is just gross. The way it's processed and the way the animals are treated.. ick.
My youngest will be turning one, and I was curious as to what some of you may have chose as an alternative to cows milk. With The older ones I bought the organic milk. And probably will with this baby too, but I wondered if there were other choices. Rice milk? Can they have almond milk this young? My 3 year old gets limited amounts of milk due to hormones. We switched back to regular milk after a year due to cost, and we try to get him vitamins and calcium through other sources.
Just looking for some suggestions! Thanks :)

I'd allow him to slowly phase out formula... don't make it cold turkey. Then I'd start giving him more water and maybe make milk (organic) more of a treat. Calcium is high in organic yogurts too - and more healthy. My daughter HATED almond milk, we haven't tried rice milk... we just aren't a milk drinking family.
My son is sensitive to cow milk, so've used goat milk and almond milk since he turned 1. I'd use goat milk exclusively, but it's too expensive. We tried soy milk, but he didn't like the flavor. Plus, almond milk has a lot more calcium. My son likes the "original" and chocolate flavor almond milk. Good luck!
I used Rice Milk, you can also use Goat's or Soy ... I am not 100% on almond milk at this age allergy wise. Honestly you do not NEED to give your child milk, you can give them the same nutrients other ways.
We used rice milk for my son - couldn't digest milk protein... and he was perfectly happy : ) NOTE: the flavored is FULL of sugar... we used plain and he was just fine. Now that he's 3 he's outgrown the intolerance... and loves regular milk
Hi, We used Similac Advance when my son was an infant and when we switched him at around 13 months, he didn't love the cow's milk. We also bought organic. We ended up going with organic, store brand soy milk. He loved it! He's 4.5 and still drinks a cup of it in the morning. Now because he's used to the flavor, when we HAVE to give treats like chocolate milk he'll actually drink chocolate soy, which is nice because it' so much better for you than regular chocolate milk. (The hormones and antibiotics freak me out too)
I can honestly say that, out of all of my children, he is my healthiest and strongest. Who knows if that has anything to do with it but; it obviously hasn't hurt him in any way!
Good Luck!
Goat's milk is your best alternative. The Meyenburg brand you can get in the refrigerated section at the grocery store tastes good and is best for little ones. Rice milk is primarily sugar and most other alternatives have added sugars. Almond milk is fine at this age but unless you find unsweetened (and not labeled unsweetened but has artificial sugar) then you will be dealing with all the issues sugars bring on...
Organic cow's milk is better than regular milk. The pestcides and preservatives along with the processing of the regular milk are damaging. If you can't afford the organic, go with whole milk as it is processed less.
Hope this helps.

I would suggest almond milk. Rice and coconut milk is very blah and doesn't have much flavor- even if you buy the flavored.
My son had a problem with cow's milk and we have used a variety of other milks. Currently almond is what we use most, but we have also used soy, rice, oat, coconut and hemp. Our pediatrician said as long as there was no history of nut allergy in the family it was fine to start him on almond milk. They are all fortified and he should be on a multi vitamin anyway. We buy the unsweetened because I don't want him to have the extra sugar, so that's something to keep in mind.
My DD will even now just drink milk when it's flavored. She doesn't like plain milk. Her pediatrician said water is fine, just as long as she gets calcium somewhere. DD is a big fan of yogurt and cheese and will drink fortified OJ.
