Hello! My son is 22 months old and ever since he was born, he was a big boy. This is his being, I promise I'm not feeding him 24 hours, but because he is so big for his age...he has outgrown the size 6 diapers AND pull ups!! We've tried potty training to NO success because he is just too little to understand! We tried showing him where to potty and he just stares at us, ha ha! We've put him in underwear and we follow him like a shadow but as soon as we turn our head, he tinkles! Some friends have suggested cloth diapers and another has suggested I put him in adult diapers. Any suggestions on how to potty train a 22 month old boy? Or what I should do if he just isnt ready?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you ladies! I think I will try the Goodnights...the only thing is that I had already considered them but the bad thing is that our local grocer(s) dont always carry them. That's the first thing I thought about using and when I went to go look for them, they werent stocked and here we are 2 weeks later and they're still not stocked!! I guess I'll have to go further down the road to look. We really arent pushing the issue because we know he's still little and doesnt understand. I have 3 other girls and two are already potty trained being 5 and 4, and yes, they were easier. That's another thing...I have no IDEA how to train a boy, lol!!

we had the same problem with our daughter. we used the good nites they are for older children with bed wetting issues but they worked great for us i think that they go up to 150 pounds? they also make a generic brand at albertsons i think they are called back to basics and they run around 8.99. hope this helps

The Goodnights Pull-ups come in childrens sizes based in weight. Like a small would be a size 5 or so, I am not real sure, but they are really large. My 6 year old has to sleep in Pullups because the Goodnights are too big. Make sure you don't push the potty training if he is not ready. You don't want it to cause him to be a late trainer.

C., I would definately try the Adult diapers, have no idea how much more expensive they would be, if they are. I have 4 grown sons and believe me, you shouldn't even think about potty training a boy until they are about 2 1/2. Girls are different. If you want to successfully do it the first time and not make it a long experience. As you said, he doesn't understand, his body isn't ready and you can't be making him feel like he's done something wrong, when he's only doing what he understands to naturally do right now. If you try and potty child a boy too early, you may succeed but it won't last and when it makes you angry and they figure that out, they have a new weapon to use against you. Try the adult diapers and best of luck.

Wow big boy. Well I know how frustrated potty training is I am trying to potty train both my kids right now. My daughter just turned 2 and my son is 3. He does better but he went backwards cause he saw his sissy in pullups and wouldn't go.

It has helped by training both now.

I know my son wears the 4t-5t in the training pants with Pampers and its the biggest.

The only one I know thats bigger is a brand thats actually degigned for Big kids to protect for bed wetting. There made like Pullups. Its called Pull Ups by Goodnites Underpants.
It says they are for Small-XL and for 38-125 lbs with leak guard to protect for over nites.

You can go to there website : http://www.goodnites.com
Hope this helps !

In my opinion years ago I tried cloth diapers and they leak and are not what there were when I was a baby. Do not rush potty training. My daughter would stoop down and turn red and if we moved her she would pee. She had a kidney that did not grow but they also said she got potty training mixed up. I think she just waited to long to go. But we said it was her problem. She said she was just confused.
