Do some research about probiotics. You may want to get him started on them now. They do wonders for "gut" issues.
My 2 1/2 year old has always had a tummy with gas problems. I've noticed lately, though, that he is really bloated. Not the usual chubby tummy you see on toddlers, but really hard and bloated. I'm going to call the doctor on Monday but I'm wondering what other mommies have had experience with this problem. Otherwise he seems fine.

He might have a big problem and I wouldnt wait till monday, You should see a doc right away. My son had problems with veggies and sometimes milk giving him bad gas. Now we use lactose free milk, and less veggies. He can eat veggies for breakfast and lunch but not with dinner. In the morning his tummy is flat, and at night I want him filled with food not with gas. As well, a hard tummy on a toddler is a sign of other bad things, like he could be compacting his stool in there, or have a horrible growth or something. If you see the same hard belly in the morning, I would go to the ER right away. Toddlers have a better chance if they get treated early, rather than later. Toddlers should have less belly in the morning as they are much smaller people who have not eaten in 8 to 10 hours.
I have been having this issue for over a year. My daughter is 2 1/2 also. I have taken her to the Dr. many times.
She has had an ultrasound and that came back fine
We added acidopholis (pro-biotics) to her milk and nothing changed
We changed to lactose free milk and it seemed better at first, but now she is back to looking pregnant.
I don't have advice... but I thought maybe comfort in knowing that we have been investigating this with our Dr. for over a year and tried all these things. She is healthy. There is nothing horribly scary going on.
Sometimes it is comforting to know other toddlers have that issue... maybe it is normal. Anyway, I suggest you try the things I tried, in case it helps. But maybe we can keep in touch and see if either of us discover the problem.
Hi B.:
What types of food does he eat? How was your diet when pregnant with him? How is his bowel movement? These are things to consider. He may need to be Enzyme tested.
My office can conduct the Enzyme test and discover where the possible challenge lies.
