Toddler Who Bites - Westtown,NY

My son is in daycare and he's a fearless child (pushes kids bigger than him). I'm sure one day it will be a good thing that he's a leader and not afraid, but right now it's not acceptable. He's been bitten twice at daycare for pushing a child or taking their toys. Now, he's learned to be the bitter. It's very frustrating. At home, when he's told "NO", he bites me. I have been taking the time to make him sit and understand that biting is not acceptable and that it hurts "ouch"... is there anything else I can do to help him understand that biting is wrong??? Help! Thanks.

What can I do next?

hmmm, my older son was the only biter....until my mom bit him back. The end.

With my daycare, the biter sits in timeout away all of his friends. After I soothe the child bitten, then the biter has to apologize & help care for the injury. Usually works....

You don't say how old he is, and for me, I think how you handle this really depends on that.

For my 3 yr old, I actually bit him back one day. That put a stop to it immediately.

But when he was smaller, like 18 mos, he never would have been able to understand and make that connection. So if he's small, I don't have any suggestions for you. But if he's 2+, try biting him back!

A friend of mine had a son that CONSTANTLY bit...She literally tried everything to make him stop- Time outs, NO-NO, a light pop on the bottom-EVERYTHING! And nothing worked until one day he bit her SO hard and brought blood, she bit him back (not hard of course, but enough to where it sort of hurt) I know it sounds mean, but he learned his lesson.

I really don't have much advice because my Daughter was never a biter- Hope you find out soon :)

My older sister was also a biter. Even bit a cat! Nothing worked until mom and the babysitter bit her back.
