Sometimes the vomitting can come from the drainage going into the stomach and upsetting the stomach this coupled with driving could be the problem..
Good Luck,

This is a very strange question, but....my 20 month old daughter has puked in the car now twice and I'm confused as to the cause. of course it's the weekend so my choices are to take her to the ER or wait until Tuesday to see the ped. She has no fever and rebounds quickly. Each time she's thrown up she has been in the car. On Friday she had been in and out of the car all day, ate nothing unusal and everything she ate we ate so I've ruled out food poisoning. She has a tooth erupting and a little bit of clear drainage so maybe it's an inner ear thing? The only other thing I can think of is motion sickness, but it doesn't happen every time she's in the car and she is forward facing in the middle of the backseat with an unobstructed view.
Any ideas or similar experiences?
Thanks!
K.

Yup...sounds exactly like motion sickness.
My son had it when he was younger...and still has it occasionally depending on whether the car was hot when he got in or if it's warmer throughout the car ride, if he was looking down and reading something, if his view to the side was obstructed by something we were carrying home, if the route we traveled was especially winding (Central Missouri backroads are notorious for that) etc. Anyhow, you get the idea. It started to happen when he was a toddler. And with him the signs were pretty clear...I'd look back at him and he just wouldn't look right...a little pale, a little clammy. He'd start to cry and then right after that throw up. He'd rebound from it pretty quickly. And once he was out of the car be just fine. This didn't happen everytime he was in the car, just once in a while...usually if too warm, or the road too windey. Now that he's older the occurances are rare, but it still happens...usually if he's reading or looking at something in the car.
Does your daughter look at books in the car...that may be the cause. Make sure she doesn't do that.
After is started happening w/ my son I'd bring an iced drink in his sippy cup and give it to him if he started looking queasy. A little fresh air blowing on her from the car window can stave off her getting sick as well. If you can stop and take her out for a few minutes that's good too.
I was especially prone to motion sickness as a kid as well...so I feel for those who get it...it feels awful.
Good Luck! :)
Yeah. I would really not worry about this too much (certainly not ER worthy). It could be motion sickness, or teething can produce so much saliva that it causes nausea. My brother would get car sick when he looked at books and also it seemed to be worse when it was hot out. This could also be a sign of getting over heated as well. If it gets to the point she cannot keep down liquids and she shows signs of dehydration (lethargy, pail mucosa, tenting of skin on hand), then you need to consider medical intervention. Good luck!
When my daughter gets strep, she throws up in the car. The combination of the mucus and the motion make her throw up. It also happens when her allergies are bad.
If she is fine out of the car, and not running a fever, wait to go to Doc. Can you eliminate some car trips with her for a few days and make sure she doesn't throw up anymore? Let someone else watch her if you need to do errands.
My youngest sister and my mom get car sick. I feel sick in small planes sometimes. It really stinks. As she gets older there are preventative meds that help. But get doc's advice before giving her anything.
Sometimes teething can make their tummies a little more sensitive. She may also have a predisposition for motion sickness. The teething plus car motion could be upsetting her tummy resulting in nausea and puke.
my daughter did the same thing at that age...motion sickness, especially if she hadn't eaten anything solid before we got on the road. but, my older 2 kids both did the vomiting thing when they were coming down with strep. letting her eat a cracker or two before a drive might help her tummy. I agree that this isn't ER-worthy unless there's a high fever. good luck & happy memorial day!
maybe she has motion sickness. i don't have personal experience with such so it's just a thought.
