My 2 1/2 year old developed a rash on Friday on his chest and tummy. It stayed there for a day and has moved to his thighs with a few left on his tummy and arms. No fever, but he does have a cough. Any ideas on what this could be?
Thank you for the responses. I am leaving this week for a few days and I didn't want to worry about my little one, so I took him to the doctors today. He said it looked like Folliculitis (I think that is how it is spelled). It has to do with hair follicules. It usually occurs with older kids, but for some reason he got it. The Dr. said it usually clears up on its own, but in this case, it doesn't look like it is. He put him on antibiotics.
Did he recently have an immunization shot, specifically his MMR? when my now 7 year old had her MMR she developed a rash but it went away within about 3 days. Just an idea...

This happened to my son when he was 8 months old. I took him to the doctor and it turned out he had an ear infection. Apparently, some viruses also have body rashes as symptoms. Don't be fooled by the lack of fever. Please bring your son to the doctor. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

When my kids use to get that kind of rash, with those symptoms, it was usually due to strep throat or some kind of viral infection. You should probably make an appointment with their doctor. Two and a half may be too young, but the doctor use to tell me children's benedryl for the rash, along with a cream he would prescribe.

I recall the same thing happened to my son, but he did have a slight fever and then the rash appeared first on his chest and belly, but that was not really a rash, it seemed like red little bumps under the skin, I called his doctor and they said it's common especially if they had some cold or fever and it's called roseolas, i looked it up in my "What to expect your 1st year book" and it's exactly what he had, nothing you can do to help it along it does take about 5 days to go away.
As long as your son doesn't have any other symptoms I would say he will be ok.....

My son, Ethan, had a rash that would move all around his body. One minute it would be on his arms and then later on his legs. He also had no fever and no signs of being uncomfortable. When we took him the the doctor, they said he caught a virus and that it just had to pass. I think it lasted about a week. It also seemed heat related. Where he would get the rash on areas he was hot at the time. His pediatrician told us that most likely he caught the virus from another kid and that past weekend he did meet his cousin that flew in from So. California.

I am so glad you posted this, as one of my twins girls has just come down with a crazy rash! They have both been on amoxicillin since monday 1/14 for ear/sinus infection and I noticed about 2 days ago that "A" had a red dot on her cheek...thought nothing of it. This morning she woke up in a full blown rash. Arms, hands, chest, tummy, back and especially bad on her face around her mouth and cheeks. Nurse said it was probably a rash from a virus and that giving her another dose of the amox. would be ok. I also checked with the pharm and they said NO MORE. That is was a delayed allergic reaction. Well unfortunatly, I received the pharm advise after the nurse and gave her a dose. Now it's all over her legs and worse then it was this morning. =( Poor baby. I gave her some benedryl (per pharm)and have a prayer in that it's nothing serious.

Since on tummy the first thing that jumps to mind is an allergic reaction to something baby ate. 2nd guess could be new soap or clothes detergent? Does it clear up in 48 hrs? Fever? Call Dr if worried, or lasts longer than 48 hrs for a quick check - could be viral.
I would ask the doctor about allergic reaction. maybe detergent or something?
It sounds like an allergic reaction to something--food, soap, or clothing detergent. Our two-year-old had the same thing, and the rash spread from his stomach to his arms and legs. I finally figured out that it was the new stain remover that I was using for our laundry. Good luck!

My five are grown but I remember the rash...I think it was called "baby roseolas" and aside from a baking soda bath the doctor suggested there was no treatment...as I recall it took about five days to migrate through the body...

one of my twins had that when she had a virus, toward the tail end of it. the other twin got a rash like that from an antibiotic she was allergic to.

My dughter had this I think it was called Rosella. Or he may have developed an allergy. If it happens again check what he ate that day. Usual allergies are wheat,cow's milk and eggs.
