My son is 26 months. He goes to bed at night on his own however he wakes sometime between 4:30 and 5:30 am and does not know how to put himself back to sleep. He is still tired and on several times I have tried to go in & comfort him and tell him it is still night night time. He will lay there and call for me every 5-15 min. I sometimes let him get up after an hour of him calling and not going back to sleep. On very rare occasions I have gone in and laid down with him- sometimes he goes back to sleep and sleeps until 7:30 and sometimes he lays there tossing & turning. Any suggestions would be appreciated. We have tried several different bedtimes and he still wakes at the same time.

If it were me, I would lay back down with him consistently until he feels more relax and stops waking up at that time. We have plenty of time as parents to get them to go to sleep on their own when they are a bit older. Good luck!
i have the same problem. but my daughter is 30months and she has excuses and bangs on her door. i have no clue what to do either. but another mom on mamasource told me to try melatonin. she had twins who did the same thing. she asked her ped and he didn't have a problem with it and since her daughters go to sleep on their own and sleep completely though the night. i think i am going to try this actually. i have been letting her cry it out for the past week and a half and its not getting better. she also tosses and turns if im laying with her or if she is in my bed too.there is like nothing comforting enough. another mom told me to put a book in their bed and tell them if they wake up read the book, dont yell for mommy, we are big girls and mommy needs to sleep too. she said it worked for her. idk. if you find a solution let me know.
Mine does that too, except he wakes up at different times during the night. If he wakes up during the night, we just stick him in the bed with us and within minutes he is back to sleep. Sometimes we put him back in his crib and sometimes he sleeps with us. I think he just likes to snuggle with us!
