Toddler Cups

My son will be 1 next week and we would like to start working with him on using a regular cup. The only problem that we have run into is we cannot seem to find a plastic cup small enough. I thought about dixie cups, but he really likes to bite and chew on things, and he would be eating the wax and paper if I let him. We do have sippy cups, but we were hoping to find a regular small cup for him to use at meal time. Have you seen these anywhere lately?

What can I do next?

When my twins were little, I got some votive cups, like for votive candles. They seemed to be the perfect size.

I found that one year is just a L. too young for a real cup. I stuck with a sippy for m oldest son until over 18 months. My youngest just turned one, and I'll probably give him another six or so months...

I bought really nice small plastic cups at Target. They have fish patterns imprinted in the plastic and are part of a set of four (or six, can't remember) but they are what I used on my one year old and he had no problem getting both hands around them -in the baby product section. Hope this helps!

My SD had some little plastic cups from Tupperware that we still use (like this http://order.tupperware.com/coe/app/tup_show_item.show_it...)

She also bought little plastic cups in the picnicking section over the summer that DD likes.

IKEA, if you have them, sells kid-sized plates, silverware, etc. that a friend got for DD for her 1st birthday. I would look there. DD started out using their 2 handled cup (with no valve) with the sipper top and then worked up to the cup with no lid.

We like IKEA in general: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10096907/

and this was her bday set: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50132673/

I do think, though, that until he can drink well from a sippy cup and get food from the plate to his mouth with silverware, he's unlikely to be able to drink from a cup without some sort of a lid. You'll be doing a lot of laundry...but don't worry. Give him time and work up to it and he'll get there. My DD is 3 and drinks out of coffee mugs all the time.

We got some small plastic children's cups at Target. I do remember them being a bit hard to find. I also like the ones at IKEA that Jennifer M. linked to.

My 1 year old has been using a regular cup for about 6 months. He loves feeling like a big boy :)

We like those zoo pals and safety first-both have lids you can use with the sippy spout but you can use them without. They are smaller then a regular sippy, too.

I think we got them at Target or maybe Babies r Us.

I've seen them in themed sets with a bowl and plate. Usually at walmart or target. My oldest had a PowerPuff Girls set. My youngest has a princess set. My hubs has a Star Wars set. Lol

What about those take and toss cups? You can just take the top sippy part off and it's a cup :) I did it with my daughter when she figured how to take it off on her own but too many spills so we still use a sippy cup

Good luck
You got some other great suggestions :)

Ikea has these little sippy cups where the lid is like a dog (SMASKA)- that comes completely off and they are then used as regular cups. Holds about 4oz total of liquid. It works awesome for us.

when we first started out we used the baby bottle tops, they were the perfect size! Also, some of the sippys can be used without their tops. Ikea has some ok sized plastic cups for kids as well.
