We, fortunately, have no instances of autism or other ill effects.
I have an aunt who suffered from polio all her life because she contracted it prior to the vaccine.
I would never take a chance that my children would suffer like that, being crippled for life.

my neighbor 2 doors down has a 12 yr old child with autism......she swore it was because of the vaccinations so she didn't vaccinate her other 2 boys......one ended up with autism too.........so she has 3 boys only one was vaccinated but she has 2 boys with autism......guess her theory was debunked just like the Dr who came up with that theory.
i have vaccinated all 4 of my kids & all are very healthy, it's not a question to me, it's the right thing to do.
No, it's not a question. It has been resolved. The reasons to vaccinate are - to prevent children (and immunocompromised adults who cannot safely be vaccinated) from contracting, suffering from and DYING from preventable infectious diseases.
The reason not too - irrational fear (hyped by the media and the anti science/conspiracy community).
People do NOT obtain systemic antibodies from breast milk. These are obtained across the placenta so breast feeding does not play into it. There are local antibodies within the gut that may have some effect but in the undeveloped/third world they are not a big issue in this country. This is different than in many other species.
Lady J - I don't know what to say. If you don't believe in science, you don't believe in science. So there is nothing that facts will do to change your mind.

The doctor who claimed that vaccinations caused Autisim has admitted that he LIED.
Vaccinate your children. I was born, in Dec 1954, just before the last big polio outbreak. When I was a child almost all of the kids got measels, chicken pox, mumps, ruebella, whooping cough, scarlet fever and many other 'childhood illnesses'. These diseases were not mild they caused high fevers, the high fevers caused blindness, mental retardation, deafness, and death. If you are a fan of the Little House TV show, you know the oldest daughter goes blind, Scarlet fever caused her blindness. The show is based on a real family.
There was just an outbreak of Scarlet Fever in Europe a week or two ago. Measels and many other diseases we thought we had under control in the US are making a come back and have reached near epidemic porportions in many areas of the US. This is mostly due to undocumented ailens crossing the border carrying the diseases.
Do you seriously want to risk the life of your children?

I have answered this question before, and still say the same thing.
I have an autistic son. Even if there were a link between autism and vaccinations, I would rather have an autistic child than a dead child.
I think it is irresponsible to not vaccinate your child. Not just for your child's health, both present and future, but the health of those people your child will be exposed to in their lifetime. That makes it not-so-personal to my mind.
As a student and teacher of history, I've studied the pain and heartbreak the diseases for which we vaccinate caused families. The diaries of these mothers were gut-wrenching. What Reverend Ruby said was spot on. When my children were babies, I lived in a community with a large contingent of "no vaccine" families. There was a whooping cough outbreak and four of the children in this sub-community died. I couldn't imagine what these parents felt standing over the graves of their beloved, and dead, children.
However, having said all that, my best friend was unable to vaccinate her children on schedule due to bad reactions. Her children were eventually vaccinated, just not all at once. And her doctor advised her to NOT play with any of the "no vaccine" sub-community families so her children wouldn't be at risk. When she told me what her pedi said, I thought he was over-reacting. Then, the four children died of whooping cough. If I hadn't been solidly in the "vaccinate" camp before that, I certainly was afterwards!
In the end, only you can decide. For me, it was a no-brainer, but for some it's a highly charged, highly emotional issue; one that mamas get rabid and nasty about. Do your research (remember the autism link has been debunked and the doctor exposed for the fraud he is), talk to your pedi and follow your gut. There are consequences, positive and/or negative, to any decision. If that's vaccinating, yay! If it's delayed vaccinating, yay! If it's not vaccinating, yay! Just pick a course you can live with.

We chose not to vaccinate. It was a very thoughtful decision, on our part. We researched for a long time, and did not make the decision lightly. We made an educated, informed decision. (On top of that, there are ethical/moral reasons behind our decision.) Our decision had NOTHING to do with Autism. That played no part in any way, in fact.
It's very personal decision. One, that I am happy I had the right to make. If you are making this decision yourself (an not just asking out of curiosity) I would encourage you to stay away from extremes. Don't listen to the people and research, that says "You kid will get every terrible disease. Diseases are coming back in the hundreds!" (They are NOT, for the record.) Also, don't listen to the people and research, that say vaccines cause every serious disease. There is a middle ground. While very hard to wade through and find it, that's where the most truth is. Whatever you choose, just make sure it's an educated decision, that you feel completely confident in.
I was not vaccinated and have never been sick, aside from sniffles a few times. I think it's funny when people think I haven't planned and thought about complications of not vaccinating in the future! 1. I do NOT have to "disclose" that he isn't vaccinated. I have to show a state waiver, that I have opted out. The school/club/facility...whatever place we are...has no right to share my son's medical information with other people. (Disclose would implicate, that other people are told.) You do NOT have to legally get any vaccine before going over seas. That is completely false. I know several friends who have done mission work over seas, who attained forms through a lawyer to opt out of certain vaccinations. Of course, one would want to get certain vaccinations, when visiting high risk countries. International colleges can not force people to have vaccinations. They can say "required" (like every school does over here.), but that does not mean it is. It can mean "required" for those that don't have a moral/ethical belief opposed to vaccinations. I HAVE educated myself of every front of this. It's what we have to do, as parents, when we make choices. You might decide that's too much of a hassle. That's not uncommon, and it's not something every parent wants to take on.
I had my son vaccinated and I get vaccinated. It is important due to the other kids and people that are around and the germs that are being spread. Vaccinations are to help you fight that off. They aren't a cure.
It's no question at all, to me. We vaccinate. I feel it's irresponsible not to vaccinate. Good luck!
Upside to vax'ing: Not dying (or suffering from brain & other organ damage) from a deadly preventable illness. These are all a LOT scarier than HIV/Aids, because at least with HIV/aids, you've got YEARS. Measles, you've got a week. Tetnus? 48-72 hours. The list goes on.
Downside: Possible allergic reaction, easily fixed with an antihistamine

I always grin when people say "so many vaccinations to such tiny babies". I hear it ALL the time.
Ummm... did you nurse, or get donated colostrom? If so, you gave them HUNDREDS of antibodies to deal with all over a 3 day period. It's part of why babies sleep so much those first few days. Their immune systems kick into overdrive.
Immature immune systems don't keep good *records* of illnesses they've been exposed to, but every cold, every flu, every vax you've had in your entire life is passed to your baby through your colostrom. Their immune systems can handle FAR more than we give them. With grace.

Before there were vaccines, people - children - died in droves.
It was common place to have 8 kids and only have 4 or fewer reach adulthood.
Those who survived were often pox scarred or weakened or maimed for life (Helen Keller was not born blind and deaf; it was not until she was 19 months old that she contracted an illness described by doctors as "an acute congestion of the stomach and the brain", which might have been scarlet fever or meningitis. The illness did not last for a particularly long time, but it left her deaf and blind.).
Diseases are becoming more drug resistant - antibiotics that could be counted on to control an infection are not working so well anymore, so preventing infection becomes critical.
There's no question in my mind - I don't want my child to become a disease statistic if I can do anything to prevent it and I will not gamble with his life - he is fully vaccinated.

vaccinate. there is no link between shots and autism. i hate that it happens, but it only happens naturally.. not because of shots. it is better to have the vaccination than to have them dead from a disease that could have been prevented.
I have read far and wide to find definitive proof of a link between vaccines and autism. There isn't any. There is however a long and painful history of outbreaks of polio, measles, mumps, etc in societies with low vaccination rates. The really potentially damaging ingredients in vaccines like Thimerisol (sp?) were removed a while ago.
We chose to vaccinate our daughter according to the CDC recommended schedule. However, we did not do the flu vaccine nor do we intend to do the chicken pox one. I look at the potential consequences for each outcome. I don't want my daughter to catch the flu, obviously, but I would much rather strengthen her immune system by being able to fight off an infection. I wouldn't, however, take that chance with measles or polio. The consequences of catching either of those are so much more severe than the flu. That being said, my daughter is healthy and strong. If she were compromised in any way (eg- asthmatic, etc) I would reconsider that.
Please remember, choosing not to vaccinate your kid is a decision that not only affects your family, but all the kids your child comes in contact with. A good option is to speak with a naturopathic pediatrician. I did and even she recommended vaccinating (not exactly the same as the CDC but a modified schedule).
When it came time to vaccine, I spoke with my doctor and he recommended that we vaccinate, but not the full spectrum.
He suggested Dtap, MMR and Polio now. He felt the MMR was more important to are daughter because of the abortion factor with Measles. He also suggested doing the Hep vaccine when our children get older and are at a greater risk of contacting someone else's blood during sports or something.
He thought the Vercellus (chicken pox) vaccine was a complete waste of time. Why subject your child to a disease that they will harbor for their entire life, if you do not have too.
I do believe that we are over medicating our children and our healthy immune systems are being compromised by it. I feel that a healthy lifestyle is much more effective that vaccines alone.
You cannot prevent all childhood diseases.... i.e. Helen Keller went deaf and blind from possible Scarlet Fever? Scarlet Fever is the advanced version of Strep, which has no vaccine.
Side note: All four of my siblings and I contracted Measles when I was a child. My sister and I were infected directly by another person, but the other children got sick from the vaccine. We all survived just fine and have no side effects.
NO way! My son who is now 8, was vaccinated with his MMR at 15 months of age. I wish with all my heart I had not let them talk me into it. Within 24 HOURS my son lost ALL speech, eye contact slipped, he ran a high fever, had MASSIVE diarrhea, high pitched screaming, and headbanging. He did not sleep through the night again till he was 7! Shortly after he was diagnosed with autism. There is absolutely no way you can have a change that fast and it not be related to his vaccines. NOT debating it. He is very high functioning now, but he will never ever be the same. Oh, and did I mention that most insurance companies will not pay for his treatment despite the fact it WORKS and is safe? School districts don't want to deal our kids and neither do vaccine pushing pediatricians. I will never again sacrifice my child on the altar of medicine for the "greater good". Our children are the sickest generation ever, and if parents do their research they will find that with the more vaccines they are given, the sicker they are. Oh, and my college age daughter was pressured by her school to get the menactra vaccine, and it almost KILLED her. Needless to say she has already said when she has kids, she will not be vaccinating them. This is a personal choice, and I am sick of parents who choose not to vaccinate being demonized. We do not make this decision lightly. If a parent chooses to vaccinate their child, then that child should be immune from diseases.
To those that have chosen not to vaccinate...you have now brought back diseases that were once eradicated in our country such as measles and mumps. Enough said.
In my honest opinion I cannot understand why on earth a parent who is supposed to love their child would risk them getting a disease that a simple shot can protect them from it. I don't know if you ever knew anyone who experienced Polio. It was really really sad to see a friend start wearing leg braces and debilitate right in front of you. Or to see a child with Measles or mumps. Mumps are really painful, and they can cause a man to be sterile. I just cannot imagine a parent not loving their child enough to keep them safe from these diseases.
I think that as time goes by that science will find that things like Aspartame, Saccharin, other artificial food additives such as Guar Gum and other fake fats are going to be the culprits.
I have severe headaches when I put Aspartame in my body. My mom did, I do, and my daughter does too. I find that many people do but just don't put 2 and 2 together. Once they stop the artificial sweeteners they don't have headaches any more.
If it's a question that you are pondering then I think posing the question about loving them enough to want then to not get those diseases is enough of an answer. Too many people who think they have some degree or authority just talk out and say things they have no business saying. They don't know anything.
Vaccinate. BUT.....Not all shots are needed in the arangement that they set it up. We spread some of them out and didn't do some because we felt the risks outweighed the benefits. Each parent is responsible for finding the correct information out there on the vaccinations and learning about why they should or shouldn't do them. Its in the best interest of the children---period. I try not to get into the heated debate of bashing parents pro or con. Just my 2cents. :)

Just a quick side note to one's comment, measles and mumps have never been eradicated in any country. The only virus to be successfully eradicated is smallpox. Even in populations where there is a large percentage of vaccinated people, large outbreaks of measles can occur. Vaccination does not equal immunity. Some people can get several doses of vaccines and never produce the antibodies. Unless you have natural immunity from wild measles, you are just as likely to spread measles than an unvaccinated child.
I've posted in the past how I feel about vaccinating, and most especially how I feel about Freak Andrew Wakefield who is no longer a doctor and was proven scientifically to be a fraud for his worldwide hoax of trying to "link" vaccines to Autism. It wasn't his first attempt at trying to make his name by concocting a hoax, except he was immediately laughed at and debunked by his peers. Shocker.
Anyway, as long as a child's immune system can tolerate the vaccines and they don't have any neurological issues or other health issues that would keep them from being vaccinated, I think it's a good idea to vaccinate. Populations where they've decreased vaccinations are showing increases in the "old" illnesses and diseases that we used to think were wiped out. And children are dying from the diseases because people think that they're no big deal until their children are actually sick from them and the symptoms become serious.
First of all,( to several of the women on here) why would you not trust the anti vaccine sites and the valuable information they give you? why would you just blindly accept all the peoples word that says vaccines are good for you? If all those people told you that feeding your children rat poisen would keep them from getting sick would you do it? i have a horrible feeling you would.
Second, it was NOT proven that the link between vaccines and autism and other horror stories was a hoax! thats what the pro vaccine people said to get you to keep taking them! I assure you that link is very real.
Third. it is not even PROVEN that vaccines prevent ANY illness. Most of the children that get measles and pertussis and all those things, are kids who were fully vaccinated.
Do the RESEARCH! i know there are many parents that can tell you from experiance what vaccinating thier kids has done to them....and its nothing good. True, alot of children get vaccinated and go along fine. But it is also true that alot of babies have gotten SIDS, Autism, and lifelong problems from being vaccinated.
To me, its not worth the risk, especially since it wont protect my child against anything anyways.
We've had so much bad luck with adverse reactions with myself and my oldest two that I don't trust them at all. If they're so important, then why can't they have vaccines that don't have all the carcinagins and toxins in them? There is so much controversy surrounding this but yet, they don't really do anything to make them safer. I've read articles from doctors that say there isn't proof that they help as much as they claim to. I was all for vaccines until I almost lost my son because of them. Then I almost ended up in the hospital after getting my booster as a 28 year old. Then I started looking into things.
Vaccinate. It would be so sad to have a child get a disease that would've been prevented had their parent/s not pushed their beliefs or whatever on their child. Why not vaccinate? There is no concluded research about autism and shots or ill effects of shots to babies. I don't understand adults that don't believe in vaccinations and push it on their kids, but will say oops if their child gets a preventable disease. Plus what about the kids around your child? It's not fair to them either.
This is a controversial question and everyone has an opinion. People will quote their favorite "expert" to "prove" their point and they believe STRONGLY that they are right. When I did research on this I found believable opinions on each side of the debate. It became confusing and overwhelming. In the end, I chose to vaccinate our kids.
I just had this very conversation with my husband. I have 2 young children and lately I feel like every time we see the pediatrician she is SO adamant about them getting vaccines. Two weeks ago she wanted to do 4 shots/ boosters for my 4 year old daughter and for the first time I stood my ground and say no.
It is a very tough and personal decision, I have feared the same about autism. At this point my personal opinion for me and my children is I will slow the shots down until I'm completly satisfied with my own research, read articles, talk to different pediatricians (not only the ones hooked on meds but natural paths too) then I will be able to decide if they will receive more vaccines or not.

I HAVE researched both sides, and it is NOT an easy answer.
Why? For those children who have had horrible reactions, they would tell you NOT to vaccinate. That would be my sisters-sister-in-law. Her child (after the MMR shot) had Horrible seizures. Her ped. said, it was not related to the vaccinations and to come back in another month for the repeat. Instead of trusting her gut instincts/she brought her daughter back and had the shot. That night her daughter had another seizure with temperatures apiking 105! Her daughter died at 16 from the worst seizures imaginable. She was also Autistic.
I had such a hard time making the decision to vaccinate my son, after the horrible reactions to some babies. You see, some may not be effected at all- and others will be highly effected. So, in a nutshell it is a roll of the dice, and you never know what you are going to get.
I decided to vaccinate, however..I decided to do it my way.
Each vaccination was spread out 3 months later than the date. I also split them up into separate shots. NO combos! NO 4/in one shots. no, no no...
I also made sure my son did not have a temperature. I added baby probiotics for gut flora, which is very important.....
I still have not got the 2nd MMR/and my son is 9.
If something were to go horribly wrong with your baby, they simply give you a 1800 number. There is absolutely NOTHING a ped. can do. They do not magically fix your child once the damage has been done. They simply give you a vac. number to call and that is that.
The vaccine companies/pharms. should not make a parent choose. They should create SAFE vaccines. Therm. free, chemical free. Even if it costs more. You see, these vaccines are FILLED with chemicals. For a sensitive little system- many things can go wrong. Horrible auto-immune problems, autistm, etc....
We are blessed to have protection against the horrible diseases. Our Grandparents faced horrible diseases and these are eradicated.
however we are blessed at a cost. You see..Many many babies cannot tolerate All vaccines coming at them. It may not come across in autism. It may come across in ADHD, ADD, Chrons, autoimmune, depression, etc.......
So, this is a loaded gun question for those whose babes have suffered.
It was a hard decision, and I mulled over pros and cons and decided to
go with them..but at a different schedule, and building up his immune system. Again, all shots were pushed waaaay back and spaced out.
prayers were sent up on his behalf..and probiotics were added to protect..
but, again..I was still taking a risk that I did not want to take..but was left
with hard choices.
Remeber 10 years ago, mercury doses were x8 times as higher! Those parents paid the price for us now. No one would listen until they tested and were astounded at the levels we were giving babies.

My Ped. had no idea what the ingredients was in the vaccine. Do you think they look? Nah...Not unless, they are a NMD in nutrition.
Phermaldhyde is also in it! Not good even in small doses.
Ask your PEd. next time to look at the leaflet at what is in it! You will be shocked!!

This can be a heated debate, and so I am not reading what others wrote, just telling you what I think. I would not trust anti-vaccine sites or the horror stories. It was proven that the so called link between the MMR and autism was a hoax and the doctor has had his license removed. (research Wakefield). I do think some kids can have reactions to certain vaccines, so for us we evaluated each vaccine risk with the risks to the child should they get that disease and the risk to other children who can not be vaccinated (since we travel overseas and children here with egg allergies can not get all vaccines so are only protected by the fact that others get vaccinated), and used that to decide which vaccines to give. We ended up giving almost all, with the exception of the flu shot. We gave no more than 2 shots at any one time or 1 mixed shot (MMR for example) so that is a reaction did occur we would know exactly what shot caused it. I can say that we never saw more than a mild fever, and with more and more parents choosing not to vaccinate and thus all the recent outbreaks of whooping cough and measles, I am thankful my boys are now of an age where they are fully immunized and protected.
I am so thankful that Prevnar is now available; had it been when my nearly 17 year old was small, she wouldn't have the devastating learning problems (similar to having had a stroke) from contracting meningitis at 12 weeks old - and she was lucky, many die, lose limbs, vision, hearing.
Space the schedule out, that is what we did with our new little one, and Prevnar is the first one we gave her. I understand everyone's fear, but the vaccines are here to protect us and had we lived a century ago w/o them, you would feel much as I do. Be careful; the Amish community 30 minutes from us has very prevalent cases of whooping cough due to refusal to vaccinate.
I think there is so much more going on in our food and water sources, as well as air, that has to do with autism. Eat organically as much as you can.
All of mine are vaccinated. Why bring back all of those diseases that killed our ancestors? Why risk other people? Why risk my children? I do feel that it is irresponsible not too. Yes, i do understand there are rare circumstances where some cant. I want to help protect my children and others when i can.

I vaccinate - however, we found I a pediatrician that doesn't want to give my child 6 shots at once and spread them out....
There are some that I would not subject my child to - the Hep-B shot that they give at birth - that's overkill, to me.
however, you need to weigh your options and your personal values to this and go with what works for you. For us? It was to vaccinate and not be spurred by all the (what we call) radical thoughts that they cause Autism, etc. I think there are enough diseases that were thought to be erradicated (sp) and are now sneaking their ugly heads back into society...I would rather be safe than sorry!!
Were you not vaccinated?? Didn't you come out all right? I'd rather vaccinate against horrible, preventable, diseases than to avoid it & run the risk of my child getting sick from something that had a vaccine. Besides, once a child starts school, don't you hafta provide proof of vaccinations? Even in college or even in certain jobs like in a hospital, you hafta prove you were vaccinated or if you can't, you hafta get them all over again or get them in general. Why would you want to risk the health of your child on things that can be prevented?
Go ahead and ask questions and do research (making sure you have reliable sources of info.). I chose to vaccinate on a delayed schedule. I didn't like the idea of giving so many vaccinations to tiny babies and I have some questions about some of the newer vaccines for less serious diseases. I have a pediatrician (who is also a mom) and she will not do more than 2 vaccines at a time and waits at least a month between vaccination visits. This is a compromise I am comfortable with. My 5 year old is caught up to kids his age and my 2 year old is "behind" the standard schedule for now. Both are healthy. If I had a child with health issues I would certainly factor that into my decision (some actually need more vaccinations).
I have friends who have chosen not to vaccinate but I feel it is a risk. Why expose your child to a potentially life threatening disease if you don't have to? My grandparents were nurses in the 1940's-- before vaccinations and antibiotics. My parents were in the Peace Corp in the 1960's and lived in a 3rd world country. Having heard the stories I am very glad for modern medicine, including vaccinations.
My daughter is 100% vaccinated according to CDC regulations. My #2 will have a slightly different schedule of vaccinations and will not get the Hep B series at birth (nor the Vit K shot or eye ointment). Boys tend to have weaker DNA - so that is why I'm going to do a delayed schedule with my son but didn't with my daughter.
I will vaccinate for everything CDC recommends (except for Hep B) but on a delayed schedule. I'm a Nurse, I've looked into the research gained from all this bs about autism from vaccinations... I'd rather my child be protected than possibly die from a disease that shouldn't be common or fatal in a developed nation.
I wanted to also state I'm very pro-breastfeeding - so most of the normal antibodies will be given to my child thru my breastmilk anyways - the vaccine is to ensure a lasting or foundation for stronger immune response.
I partially vaccinated my first. My second hasn't had a single one. He's 3 and one of the healthiest kids I know.
If you do decide to vaccinate, just remember that YOU have a choice of when and if. Don't let the doctor's push you into anything. Do your research and find a doctor who supports vaccine choice.
Not sure how things are in Colorado, but just make sure you write an exemption letter for whatever exemption is allowed there. Here in Illinois, it's only religious exemption. I've had no problems with getting my kids into public schools.

My dad got the mumps when he was a baby and he became deaf from it. With a lot of the children not getting vaccinated we are going to see a big outbreak of measles or such and the ones who are not vaccinated will be the ones to suffer more. There is a possiblity that those who are vaccinated will contract the virus but it wont be as severe. Look into spacing the shots out so there isnt so many at one visit. I would vaccinate.

It used to be that about 20% of children died from birth to age 5 (year 1900) and 40% of children didn't reach adulthood. There have been other factors that has changes that, cleaner water, medical care and the like, but vaccinations did a BIG part in it.
There are also reasons not to.
Viruses have to be grown in living tissue... and some viruses only grow in human living tissue. so to get the virus to make the vaccination you have to have living human cells that play host... Stem Cells are best... the cells they use to get *some* of the vaccinations were taken from aborted babies. This is the reason you can get the religious objection to vaccinations. You are basically saying you ae against the abortion THAT much (the babies were aborted in the 60's if I remember correctly). You can get more information here:

Here I sit with pneumonia...my son had it a week or so again. My 6 month old daughter is vaccinated against it....I am praying she doesn't get it.
We don't and many of my friends (several doctors) don't or do it very selectively. I don't know anyone who wouldn't agree that they get way too many too early! They've admitted that, but it's easiest to enforce mass vaccination among new parents. My favorite website is www.thedoctorwithin.com, his book is called the sanctity of human blood.
Something to consider: when you choose not to vaccinate, there may be implications when your child is school-age. You will have to disclose whether your child has been vaccinated on school, camps, sports teams, and other organizational sign-up forms. If there is a serious outbreak of a particular disease like measles, your child may have to have restrictions or quarantines that other public school children do not have. There may be some activities that your child may not participate in due to not having been vaccinated.
It's more than just an infant/toddler thing. You'll need to reflect on the entire childhood/teen years and make your decision with those guidelines in mind. And what about sending your child off to school trips or missions trips when he/she is in high school? Vaccinations against diseases that are prevalent in some countries are required for participation. My son went on a goodwill kind of trip to build a school in a poverty-stricken third world country. He was required to have a Hepatitis A vaccine prior to going. He also was selected to attend a prestigious educational overseas event and was required to have his immunizations up to date.
And what about the teen meningitis vaccine (can't remember the word, something about meningoccal, but it's something like that)? Its recommended for teens living in dorms and teens who are in social situations.
So this is just something to think about.
honestly, with all the people coming into our borders from all directions, and not all of them doing it legally...ie have all their vaccinations up to date,
.making sure your kids are up to date on all their shots is very important. because you never know whether the kid your child plays with in pre school is up to date on all their shots, and/or what kind of diseases they have been exposed to, and whether or not your kid has been vaccinated against it.

Interesting question - 2 weeks ago I posted an article from the Chicago Tribune about serious illnesses breaking out due to so many kids not having the vaccinations........the thread got pulled. Anyway - I hear SO many parents say, "well, I didn't vaccinate and my kids are so healthy..." I get it however there is a reason these vaccinations were in place to begin with - deadly and very serious diseases were breaking out - if we can not go through that again it would be great.
Oh - and my son has PDD-NOS which is on the autism spectrum and I do not believe it was from the vaccinations. I do however get them spread out as I don't like having 4 or more shots at one time on a child.
I am all for vaccines, they keep my children safe and other children safe. I guess my only concern is the amount of vaccines they give to infants and even older kids. I will have my 8 week old son's Dr. split up the vaccines into seperate office visits. 4-6 shots at once is too many at once in my mind. The last time I did this with my now 6 year old daughter, I got a little attitude from the nurse, which surprised me, I am the one who has to pay for another office visit. at my daughters 4 year old check up I decided to split up the shots. At the second office visit the nurse says to me (VERY sarcastic) "Aren't you glad you put your daughter through that again??" because my daughter was screaming. I am sorry but they should be a professional and not judge me on my parenting decision.
i kno there's tons of answers already, but i had a really hard time deciding just cause i was soo scared because of all the stuff u hear against getting your kids vaccinated. But, i did what i think is the best thing to do, and i got my daughter all of her vaccinations.
I personally think that it's more of a risk to NOT vaccinate, especially because of all the people who arent vaccinating their children.

This is a tough one and both sides have very strong opinions ..but this is also one that only you can answer for your own children. You need to review all the facts and decide which of the two sides sound best for your child. Or in my case, I viewed it as the lesser of the two evils. I would prefer a healthier shot, one preserved with refrigeration for example instead of these nasty chemicals. That option is not currently available to my child. Personally, I HATE all of the junk that is in a vaccine. It makes me cringe when I think about injecting my baby with these nasty preservatives. No, it is not that I believe every shot will lead to autism. I just don’t see how injecting some of these chemicals, even in minimal doses, could ever be a good thing. Tough, tough, tough decisions we face as mamas. I ended up deciding to vaccinate. I space them out so he is getting less at once in my hope that I am giving his body more of a chance to filter through all of that junk since he is receiving it in smaller doses. I could not live with myself if he contracted a fatal disease that I could have prevented with a shot. My son may not travel a lot but my husband does. Who knows what he is exposing himself to on a plane and bringing home to my child.
Definitely vaccinate! Not just your kids but yourselves as well! I understand that there can be some reactions to the vaccines, just like other medications. But that shouldn't make you fear trying to protect you and your kids and others health. When making the decision think about the risks vs. the benefits. My asthma medications can have serious side effects, including death, but if I don't take them then I'm not able to breathe properly and can end up in the hospital. The benefit is greater than the risk. Vaccines are no different than medicines. There are risks and benefits to both. You have to decide what's more important to you. For me the benefits of vaccines are more important. Even the chicken pox vaccine. If I can prevent my kids from going through what i had to go through, then I'm going to do it. If one of my kids has a bad reaction it's not going to keep me from having the rest of my kids vaccinated.
