Tips on Cloth Diapers

I know this was posted a while ago, but I have to agree with another poster about Breesbums.com. They are a local business that offers a fabulous service. Since they are based in Allen, she will deliver to you locally. Bree and Jason are very knowledgable and helpful! They often have classes at the Allen Birthing Center where you can touch all the different diapers and see which you like best. I have bought kissaluvs for my newborn and will use bumgenius for when he gets a little larger. Hope this helps! E.

I didn't know people still used cloth diapers. Where have I been? I have a five and seven year old (girls) and I never considered cloth diapers. What are the benefits? Thanks.

I liked wonderoos the best becuase they grow with baby. My husband liked happy heiney's with velcro because there were no snaps to deal with.

I used the All-in-one diapers from www.clothdiaper.com for both of my kids. They are a diaper and cover sewn together...wonderful and easy to use!! I also bought the diaper inserts for night-time use as well as the flannel wipes. My changing table was in my bathroom, so it was easy to wet the wipes with warm water and rinse the diapers in the potty.

Hey A., I already emailed you yesterday but thought I would post for the benefit of others who are interested as well.

We have used several different kinds. My daughter is 10 months old now. Until now we have mainly used kissaluvs fitted diapers with a prowrap cover. It is a 2 piece system so now that she is so squirmy on the diaper table, literally standing to try to climb the walls, we are going to use more pocket diapers such as Fuzzibunz, Happy Heiny's and Wonderoos.

The website I bought mine from is no longer in business but there are many out there on the web. You can go to www.diaperpin.com for reviews of diapers and sellers. You can also buy them used at www.diaperswappers.com.

If anyone else has questions, I have a long document I prepared for friends with descriptions of the types of diapers out there. There is a lingo that is very confusing without someone to help you wade through it all. I can email it to anyone interested.

Really depends on how much you want to spend. Pre-folds and covers are the cheapest, we use those at home. I love AI2 (all in twos - also called All in ones with inserts) due to I can re-use the covers and just change the insert out when she is wet. My favorite is BerryPlush. Everyone is diffrent on what they like. My sis loves fitteds and wool covers. That's 1/2 the fun of cloth diapering is trying diffrent things and seeing what you like!!! I used cloth for both of my children and it saved a bundle of money and time. No more last minute trips to the store for diapers, of course we still kept some at hand for outings, but that was easy to do.

As far as what kind to buy I got mine from Walmart, but you can buy them just about anywhere that sells baby items. Look in the baby section (washcloths, bibs, etc.) they are usually on a shelf on the bottom and they are fairly thick this way you only use one rather than two or more, don't buy cheap diaper pins, or the plastic undies (I learned that the hard way). Make sure that the plastic undies you buy fit well not to loose (to avoid leaks), or to tight your son will be very uncomfortable; also keep in mind that diaper changes will be more frequent and there will be more laundry.

Kushies!! I've tried many different brands and kushies were my absolute favorite. They were just like using disposables and are one of the cheapest to buy. I highly reccomend the all-in-ones (AIO)

There are tons of online shops that sell cloth diapers that are not only wonderful but very cute. www.snootybootydiapers.com is a great one so is www.cottonbabies.com or if you'd really like diapers that are not only all those things but also are works of art and are made by WAHMs then you have to check out www.hyenacart.com for a whole community of WAHMs that sell all manner of hand crafted items. I have bought beautiful handmade clothes and diapers there. Most recently I bought a super cute diaper from www.middleearthdiapers.com with an embroidered pirate ship on the back which my son wears with his flame pattern baby legs from www.babylegs.net and looks oh so cute! I also got him a pirate creeper from www.cafepress.com/familypendragon - my WAHM site! Babies don't have to suffer from boring clothes anymore, LOL!

While I didn't use cloth myself, my bro and sis-in-law have 4 yr old triplet boys and used both Fuzzibunz and Happy Heiny's. They bought from a local diaper service in NC, so I can't help out with where to buy. I do know that these diapers worked GREAT for all three of the boys from when they came home from the hospital (at 6 weeks old) to when they stopped using diapers completely. They never used disposable except with long trips and any outings that they were at for a considerable amount of time.
