I agree with the 20%. I know the Bio Rics I go to the ladies have really been affected by the ecomony. Will give even more when I can.
I take my kids (and go myself) to a Great Clips near by. I usually have a coupon for $8.99 haircut or $9.99 something like that. Our haircuts (boys and myself) is a very basic just trim cut. No big style involved. Just cleanup.
How much would you give for a tip? I'm always concerned I'm tipping too little or too much.
Thanks!

You tip on what the full price of the cut would have been, without the coupon (just like at a restaurant if you use a coupon). I tip 15-20% of the service.
I usually do $3.00 on a $9.99 haircut for my daughters.
I tip 15-20%, so on a $10 haircut - $2-3 bucks.
Amen to Lee Lee. If your cut should have been $20, then you tip $4. Always. That way you guarantee a good cut next time. If you tip poorly, the hair dresser may not care as much to do a good job. Our boys hair cuts are $10 each. I tip him $10 total each time. He does an AMAZING job and always gets our boys in when we need him too. My daughter gets braids done (normally) and goes every 3 weeks. I tip her 20% at least. Last time she took her braids out for me and on a $60 cut I tipped her $20...
We go to Great Clips too. I always tip $3 per haircut. our hairdresser appreciates it and he does a great job. We always go back to him - he knows that and he is always happy with our tip. I see people just dropping a dollar in front of them and making it seem like they are doing a great thing - it is kind of insulting actually! Unless they do a terrible job, I would pay 15-20% of your haircut price (original not discounted).
:)
I tend to tip more than others. I do $5.00 especially if they fly thru the cut and get me out of there fast. My son tends to only have "so much time" before the wiggles start and we stop where we are. He's getting better but dropping $15.00 for a haircut isn't too bad since we cut it ourselves during the summer so he doesn't get it cut more than two or three times a year.
I do a couple of dollars at places like that. When they have a booth and work their own clients but they pay booth rental and the prices are set the same for everyone I might do a bit more.
I think it's 15% right? I always tip the gal that cut's my hair, I just recently started tipping her an extra $3 more only because she'll blow dry my hair too...
I had coupons yesterday too for $7.99. My two boys got a hair cut. I gave $3 to each of the women who cut their hair and my daughter got her bangs trimmed. I tipped $2.
15 - 20% of original price. Here is an article with some guidelines:
