Three Questions, Actually: Breastfeeding, Diaper Rash, and Cloth Diapers.

My first question has to do with me. I stopped breastfeeding my third daughter about a week ago. Does anyone know how long it takes to dry up usually? I breastfed my second daughter till she was almost two, so I never had an issue once I decided to wean her. I realize it'll take more than a week to dry up, but even though I'm not feeding her, my breasts keep filling up. I'm not engorged like I was when I first stopped, so it's not uncomfortable, but I just want normal boobs again.

My second question has to do with the baby. I've often heard that some parents use yogurt to heal a particularly bad diaper rash. I've always been hesitant to try this--wouldn't it hurt if it got inside? Does yogurt actually work?

My third question is concerning cloth diapers. I used them for the first year of my second daughter's life. I'll be moving to a house in less than a month, so I can wash them again (I'm in an apartment where I have to pay for washing and drying, so it's not possible right now). I don't want to order any, though. I know some people make them. Does anyone know of any good websites to check out as to the making of cloth diapers? Or is anyone here experienced in making them?

Thanks for any help you can all offer!

So What Happened?

Thanks for all your help with my daughter's diaper rash! It was just getting worse (I tried corn starch, then I tried yogurt), so I took her in to the pediatrician. She was prescribed some creams, and they worked like a charm.

I stopped nursing almost 2 years ago and I'm still leaking. I found the best thing for diaper rash is air and using just dove soap and water when they are poopy.

Hi C., I have a solution for your diaper rash issue -- you might want to try Shaklee's all-natural diaper rash cream. It is sooo gentle and really does the job. Because it is all natural, you don't have to worry about it being too harsh for her skin. If you are interested, either contact me and I can drop one off if you live near me (I am in Georgetown), or simply go to my web site emilytaft.com and click into "Personal Care" on the menu at the left. Then click into "Baby Care", and you will see it. Please contact me with any questions at all - ###-###-#### or ____@____.com Best Wishes. E. Taft

Yogurt is completely safe and does work on a diaper rash if it has to do with yeast(candida, or thrush) which it often does. More effective is supplemental probiotics(good bacteria) for babies. You can get this at any health food store and give orally, it works wonders, also helps with digestion and immunity.

Hi C.!

Breastfeeding: It took me three weeks to dry up-and I was engoraged for most of it!! I heard the cabbaged leaves but never tried em!
Yogurt: Never heard of actually putting it on the skin but eating it-my son always gets yeast infections so YoBaby for breakfast or snack is a must!! Make sure it is the yogurt with live cultures which I think YoBaby/YoKids is the only one...or another StoneyField yogurt!
And sorry but I know nothing about cloth diapers! :) Good luck!

The thing you are thinking about with using yogurt to cure a diaper rash is only if it is a yeast infection, which some diaper rashes indeed are. Women have been using yogurt to cure yeast infections for as long as there has been yogurt! The good bacteria eats up the bad bacteria. If nothing else works to cure the diaper rash, its OK to try the yogurt. Just make sure you use NATURAL PLAIN yogurt, because if you just use any old yogurt (which usually contains sugar), it will make the infection worse. It doesn't hurt if it gets inside. When a woman treats an internal vaginal yeast infection with yogurt, it is used internally.
I don't have answers to your other questions, sorry... My son still nurses and we don't make our cloth diapers (I use G-Diapers and prefolds).
