My Husband and I are taking my 1 year old son to NYC for 3 nights then to Niagra Falls and Toronto for five nights. I was just wondering if anybody had some ideas on keeping my lil guy entertained in these cities. We were going to bring him to a play in NYC but I'm not sure if he would like it. I would hate to spend a ton of money and have to leave. I know one day we are going to go on the Maid of the Mist in Niagra Falls. Any other ideas please let me know.

What can I do next?

Hi Carrie,
We just got back from New Jersey and we we took our 3yr. old and 12 month old to Ellis Island and then to the Statue of Liberty. You can take the Ferry from NY to these places. The kids loved the Ferry ride. They had a good time. Ellis Island has a place to sit and eat and a gift shop. Same with the Statue of Liberty. Bring a Stroller, a lot of walking but it was fun. Let me know how it turns out.

I wouldn't take a 13 mth old to a show. Your right in thinking you would be wasting your money. Even a kid type show would probably not keep his intrest long enough. I would look in to the Children's Museum and there are plenty of sights to see. Toys R Us in Time Square is pretty cool, FAO Swartz. However, for a 13mnth old, probably just hanging out with you is good enough. Just make sure to work in some resting time.

I just went wtih my one year old and I definitely do not recommend taking him to a show. The children's museum of manhattan was great but is pretty crowded in the morning. After luchtime it dies down since all the nannies take the kids back home for lunch. I also think the central park zoo or bronx zoo might be nice. My daughter just enjoying seeing everything from her stroller. We used the trains and busses alot but having the carseat/stroller will be helpful if you plan on using cabs.
Good Luck!

I went to Niagra Falls last September. My daughter was 5 months old when we went. She loved the Maid of the Mist. There is also an Aquarium at the Niagra falls park which she liked ( there was a seal show it was so cute). Also there is a lot of fun activity's. I would suggest going earlier in the morning if you want to see everything. I only went on the USA side because my daughters Birth certificate had not come in by time we left. I am including a web link for that has some info on it.

PS Food is expensive, I would pack a lunch.

Hello Carrie,

When are you planning on visiting NYC? Please remember to layer your and your baby's clothing from tees to long sleeve and sweaters. The weather could be different from day to day plus temperatures changes from subway cart (feezing) to subway platform (hot), most taxis don't have the AC etc. Here are the links on fun activities with kids in NYC;
