There is a professional line called Nioxin. It works. If you use it consistently for 3 months you will begin to see new hair coming in. I am a cosmetologist and it has worked for many clients.
I am 39 and after I had my son four yrs. ago my hair started getting thinner. I used to have super thick hair. I also found out my thyroid is under active and I've started taking meds. but my hair is still thinning. I tried Rogaine but I can not use it in the morning because it makes my hair too greasy. Has anyone had any luck with anything else?

Yes, I have had experience with thinning hair. Mine is due to thyroid dysfuntion. The meds are only a partial help. I found a health & wellness company that has some awesome products that really help. If you're interested, I'll be happy to share more. CD
I'm sorry to hear about you troubles. I didn't have that problem, but my sister did. She went to the doctor and found out that it was a vitamin problem. Try going to a good naturalist who can recommend which suppliments who should use. Sometimes you might just be taking too much of one thing and not enough of another. Good luck.
A., I am a consultant for a health and wellness company called Arbonne. Our products are made with herbal and botannical ingredients combined with science and are truly pure, safe and beneficial for your skin and body. You will see a visible difference! We carry a product called the Intelligence Thermal Fusion Hair and Scalp Revitalizer. The product contains a proprietary thermal fusion technology that combines heat and water with other vitamins and ingredients to protect hair from the environment and to promote hair growth. I have a client who says this is the only product that has made a difference in the texture and thickness of her hair. Please contact me if you are interested in learning more.
You can try nioxen shampoo and conditioner. I used the website and found a store at our local mall that carried it. It is expensive but the large bottle lasts. It is a pleasant shampoo in my opinion. It cleanses your scalp well and is gentle to your hair. I have used it for a few years and wouldn't change. I don't use the hair spray they have because I don't care for the smell. When I use hair spray (not often) I use Chi hairspray. Hope that helps.
A dermatologist can help. I am a nurse and work for a dermatologist. We see people for thinning hair and hairloss all the time.
Dr. Janet Lang may be the leading expert in functional hormone imbalances. However, she no longer sees patients. She only teaches seminars and works as a consultant with other physicians, including chiropractors because her methods are more holistic. You can go to her website, http://drjlang.com/, for contact information. She may be able to refer you to a practitioner that can help you best.
There is also nutritional specialist and chiropractor at the Nutrition Clinic in Chesterfield, MO, Dr. Josephine (Jo) Lee, M.S., D.C., who specializes in allopecia (hair loss).
Endocrinologists are generally trained to diagnose a severe disease state, not a functional hormone imbalance, which is what most of us suffer from most of the time. Doctors who have studied with or consult with Dr. Lang and use her methods work with you nutritionally and may offer mild or temporary hormone replacement to help balance your body for more efficient function.
Good Luck!!!
Hi A.,
I have dealt with many women, especially after childbirth, that begin to lose their hair and it's not because they are "old". Many of them are in their late 20's and early 30's. The problem for them was a hormonal imbalance in body after the birth of their child. They are using Arbonne's natural progesterone cream, a natural hormome balancing cream, and they claim it has saved their hair, among many other things like headaches, fatigue, weight loss and more. We also have a Thermal Fusion Hair & Scalp treatment that might help with your thinning hair as well. It has helped many women & men with thinking hair and helps regrowth. If you would like more info, please email me at ____@____.com and I'll be happy to shre more info with you. You can also browse my online catalog at www.vickimartinez.myarbonne.com and see all we have to offer. We also have an awesome all natural baby care line that is both dermatologist and pediatrician tested. All our products are natural and we have a 45 day money back guarantee. I can show you how to save 35% or more on orders via an annual wholesale membership. Good luck!

If it is just your thyroid, your hair should improve now that you are on meds. It will take about 6 months to stabilize though! Also get a multivitamin with minerals, and some Zinc (only take about 100mg daily of the Zinc - it is good for your hair and nails). And if your general diet is poor in protein your hair will get worse. If your periods have been a problem too, get a doctor to check you for polycystic ovarian syndrome - it can cause your testosterone level to go up which can cause hair loss.
Remember hair regrowth takes a while, so be patient. While waiting for everything to kick in get a good short "do" so that it won't show as much.
Good luck!
Hi A.! I have a little advice that might be helpful. My sister who is a year younger than me, 38 but no kids, noticed her hair was thinning as well. She always had dark thick hair. She tried several differnt dr.s and tests and came up with the following advice--get your iron tested as well, talk to a dermatologist to see if a skin condition is present, and an endocrinologist which might help you with the thyroid or other similar/underlying problem. And last but maybe the most simple but crappy explanation that she was told was that as you age, the hair folicle gets "skinnier" therefore the individual hair is smaller/skinnier giving the appearance of thinning hair and of course heredity from your parents may say that yes, you are losing your hair and that's it. SUCKS!
Hopefully this isn't too depressing advice. :) On a different note, I can feel for you on the stay at home mom with a little one and teenager deal, I'm pushing 40 myself and feel like either my 5 yr.old or my 19 yr. old will cause me early insanity, I don't have hair loss yet, just LOTS of WHITE hair and peri-menopause symptoms. BLEAH!!!! Good Luck to ya!!

Go to a nutrition store and buy Kelp. It is great for the thyriod and helped my hair grow back. My family has bad thyroids and we use nutritional supplements and kelp. Our hair grew back and we didn't have side affects from thyroid drugs. And it worked for us.
I know how you feel about thinning hair. I started losing my hair after my second child was born and I went to a Derm and he told me it was anesthesia and pregnancy. Was told to use extra strengths mens rogain. I couldnt bring myself to do it. Then more hair started falling aout after my 3rd child. After many Derm visits noone knows why I lost my hair. So if you try any of these products and they work for you please let me know. I have been taking a hair and skin vitamin and I dont see any difference. Thank you so much and hope you find something that works.
Hello A.,
I know you said your have thyroid problems, but alot of doctors overlook harmonal imbalances too, I had this same problem, and being a hairstylist there was no way in hell i could live with it. It wound up being that my testosterone was way too high.
That is the same harmone that men have, that is why they suffer male pattern baldness.
I take progesterone to counteract the testosterone.
The best way to test for it is a saliva test by a compounding pharmacist.
Medicine shoppe in St. Peters is the only one I know of that offers that.
good luck
Shampoos that are volumnizers works great.
I have had great luck with Nioxin. You can get it at any salon or Beauty Brands!
Are you on synthroid? if not get on that and have it checked regularly to make sure the dose is right.
I have it also but i thnk God have not lost hair...
First of all, Stress is the #1 reason for thinning hair. Medication and other health problems are other reasons. If you are on any medications, ask your dr. or pharmacist if that could be a reason. Hair shampoos and etc. in a Brand called Nioxin is really good for thinning hair. It can also get very expensive. Talk to your dr.

My hair thined out alot after my son 4 yrs ago as well my thyroid is normal chackled it up to stress however did find cutting my hair shroter than normal really helped my hair grew back to a thicker set of hair happened again with my daughter cut it shorter and loved it now it is healthy again,or you can see a dermotologist where they can do a hair sample and provide medication just let them know about yur throid issue.
A.,
Have you had your hormone levels checked? I've read that low hormones can cause hair loss! Good luck!
A.
If you are not taking a good vitamin and calcium, you should.
Vitamins help make hair stronger and healthier. I'll be 38 this year and 3 kids later my hair is healthier than it's ever been. I buy my supplements at www.marketamerica.com/2bewell
My hairdresser also recommends these vitamins to her clients!
Take care,
V.
If your thyroid is under control from the medication, it could be that your vitamin D level is low. I suffered from hair loss and breakage since turning 40, and everyone, including the deramatologist said it was hormones and I'd just have to live with it. My thyroid was checked several times and it fell within the normal level, even though several women in my family have thyroid problems. Then finally my doctor checked my vitamin D level and found that it was extremely low...it was 9 and typically it shouldn't be lower than 30. Since being on prescription vitamin D I have a ton of hair growing back, and my eyebrows are filling out as well. I also used to have cystic acne and now that is gone. Vitamin D is actually not a vitamin, it's a hormone. So when it's low you can have a lot of hormonal problems like the ones I've mentioned. They have even linked low vitamin D to breast cancer. I would recommend having your doctor check it. Or you can order a home test online. But you might as well see a doctor since you'd need a prescription if it is low. Plus they'd need to see you after your on vitamin D for a few months to make sure it gets back to normal. If it gets too high you can have problems too. I hope this helps!
It is very common to lose your hair when your thyroid is off. You need to be on synthroid. If you just started taking it, you will always lose some hair, because you are growing new hair all the time. You need to have your doctor request a THS for labs and have him check it every 3 months when you first start it. You may need to have your dose lowered or strengthened. I am 52 and have been taking synthroid since I was 45. My doctor told me that I have the kind that is hereditary, so I will be on it for life. Some people have the other kind and sometimes can go off of it.
