I am looking for a thermos container that is not too big for my son's lunch for school. I bought an Embark brand container from Target but my son said his mac n' cheese was cold by lunch time. So today I went back and got him a Thermos brand container from Target. I have heard that they keep food warm for quite a while - my only problem is that these containers all have characters (iron man, spiderman, toy story etc) on the outside and my son does not like that (neither do I, frankly). I'd rather get him something without characters so that he can continue to use them as he gets older and I don't have to keep buying new ones as he gets older. The only thermos food containers I've seen that are plain (without characters) are too big for his lunch pack. Any suggestions where I can go and look for these? I am going to Walmart tomorrow and hope to have better luck there. But I thought I'd get some ideas from you.

I found a small stainless steel O. (my son hates the super heroes too) and it keeps his food warm. I got it at Target last year. This is it:

Do you pre-heat it with hot water for about 5 mins before you put the food in? That's what I've been doing and it works.
I can get it in his soft side lunch box along with a drink and ice pack.
My son is 4yrs old and likes all of the characters, but try going to "toy's r us" I remember seeing some there that were plain.
Look in the camping section, not the back to school section. I found a grey thermos for my daughter with no characters on it.
I'd call around to stores and ask. I don't know if you have a Fred Meyer where you live but ours has plain containers. My granddaughter has one that I bought at FM that fits in her insulated lunch bag.
Prior to filling the thermos, boil a pot of water and put it in the thermos for a few minutes. Then empty and the water and add his heated lunch.
We have a plain stainless steel thermos made by "Tempo" manufactured by Range Kleen. We found it at Wegman's grocery store for $8. My daughter never complaned of cold food.
Last year I had trouble thinking outside of the jar and wished for more of a square container. This year we found at Wegman's a square microwaveable container that comes with a hot pack that you boil before use. You then zip the hot pack and the container into a square insulated pouch (think the size of a small CD case). I'm looking forward to trying it out this school year.
Don't go to the "back to school" section. Shop in the sporting goods or housewares dept. I hate Walmart, but in this case they have a much better selection than Target. You may also want to try a sporting goods store, like Dick's.
I have found plain ones with either a pink or blue lid at Target that is the Thermos Foogo brand:

We got our thermos brand one at Target and it didn't have characters on it. It was small too. I think we paid $16 for it and it was pink camo. They had tons of different ones.
