The Smell of Urine in Soiled Linens and Clothes

tide stain release tablets! I have a 3 1/2 yr old and a 1 1/2 yr old so pee always happens, but these tabs get the smell out! I also use gain detergent which smells wonderful.

Nature's Miracle!!! It really does work miraculously! You can buy it by the gallon at pet stores. (They also sell a similar looking jug that's for skunk odor or something else, so make sure you get the right one.) I just put it in my own spray bottle and use it on mattresses (for kid accidents) and carpets (for dog accidents). I've never had it not work. GL!

Borax. The brand most often seen is "20 mule team". It's in the laundry soap aisle. As a bonus it's very inexpensive and has other general purpose cleaning uses.

Borox and Vinegar.

In addition to this - your child should really increase her intake of fluids as this is telling me that she is either not getting enough, or there is something that could warrant a trip into the pediatrician for a check up. Urine should NOT BE so strongly scented.

When my daughter wet our couch, Art Van came out and used a vinegar solution to remove the odor. I see that you've tried vinegar, but it definately worked on our couch.

Drop the linens immediately into a bucket with a capful of Dreft, a scoop of oxyclean (doesn't have to be the really expensive stuff, the dollar store version works just fine)and enough water to cover them.

Let them sit overnight (or 8-10 hours)and then drain, and launder as usual.

Works great on food stains, too!

I cloth diaper and to get the urine smell out of cloth (if it's especially potent) use a combination of hot water, vinegar, Super Washing Soda (Arm & Hammer - in laundry detergent aisle, I find mine @ Meijer), laundry detergent. I also do an extra rinse cycle. I have also used baking soda. It seems that natural products work better, for me anyway.

Do you have hard water? Sometimes that makes laundry a bit difficult - there are special products to use if you don't have a water softner.

I use baking soda in my washer in place of fabric softener, the baking soda goes into the water with the detergent while the washer is filling and after the water covers the bottom I add the clothes, sheets, or linens.

The baking soda does double duty, softening clothes, but also absorbing odors. Then, in the rinse cycle I put vinegar in to dissolve the baking soda out of the clothes, linens, or towels and the water washes the smells and dirt away.

Another thought would be to soak her sheets and clothes overnight in a bucket or sink full of a water / vinegar / baking soda mixture and then wash with your regular detergent the next day.

Last question, are you using enough detergent or overfilling your washer? I have found some smells stick around in my clothes if I don't use enough soap or if I put too many items into the washer and the fabrics do not have enough room to move around properly.
