The Reason for My Expired Visine

I have had red irritated eyes for almost a week now. I did finally get to the dr to see if it was pink eye and it is not. It is just dry irritated eyes. Possibly allergic to something new in the office. YAY!

Anyways, what can I do to curb this. If it is allergy, how do I address or confirm this?

Mind you I have had two eye surgeries so they are more sensative. I have to be careful or I will wind up with a headache.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

LOL Heather it was my previous post I think its like two down.

I will be asking the doc and getting new visine. I know I can use that and do frequently during harvest season.

Next step is an allergist. Also, try Allegra. Take it every day. It will help. Ask the allergist for a prescription eye drop. They work wonders.

When you went to the eye doctor and it was determined that you did not have pink eye, what did the eye doctor recommend for your irritated eyes?

What did your Dr. suggest you use on your eyes?I would go with what your Dr. said since you seen the Dr. about your eye condition.

My husband's eye doctor also recommended the Systane that Jo W mentioned, when my husband had an irritation issue with his eyes. His was simply a reaction to a changed formulation of his contact lens saline/cleaning solution.

Talk to your eye doctor. You probably don't even have to make an appointment, just call up the office and ask what they recommend OTC for eye irritation. If there is something more you (or they) think is going on, they will probably recommend you come in for a look see. And that wouldn't be a bad thing, if you are having problems that might be more than just allergy (since you have had eye surgeries in the past).

Don't use Visine, it is actually the worst thing you can put in your eyes, use Systane. I get the same thing but it is not just from allergies, it is because you have allergies and a fair few other factors come into play.

I use Systane and it is gone after a day.

Use the Visine that says artificial tears. That one you can use without limitations on how often.

I have seasonal allergies and some chemical allergies, so I take Claritin (well, the generic) daily to avoid things like what you're going through. I've been having to do that for years. If I miss a day, I can definitely feel it and notice a huge difference. My eyes start to itch and swell and I'm looking for the Visine.

Shouldn't the doc be able to tell you if it's an allergy?

That's how you wouldd confirm it.

Do you have a real tree in your house for a Christmas tree? If you do, could that account for it?

How about Zyrtec or Claritin?

Have there been any Christmas decorations put up at home or in office?
They might be dusty (if they are artificial) or pollen or mold (if they are real trees, boughs, plants (poinsettias, etc).
People get stuffy this time of year thinking it's just winter and or dry heat, but often the decorations are a factor that we just don't think about.

Since you have a doctor for this AND your eyes are so sensitive that you have to be careful what you use, why not ask your doctor to recommend/prescribe something?

Expired Visine? I'm confused.

The dr may be able to give you allergy eye drops if they think that is something that will help. I have a friend at work that uses some. Because her allergy's are really bad. Ask what would be best for you to take. Weather it be over the counter or prescription.

Good luck and God Bless!

Definitely check with your doctor, but my first thought was to use saline. Saline is simply artificial tears, nothing more. To me, it sounds like a very safe option. It would just rinse your eye and hopefully flush out any irritants. But call your doctor. Eyes give me the willies. I would want to make sure you're not doing anything to make it worse.
