Hi Mamas,
We are thinking of switching our cable tv service to The Dish. Does anyone have it and would you recommend it? Thanks!!

We had Directv but it got too expensive so we switched...my husband does not like it as well.
DO IT! I despise comcast, but am stuck with it because of how my balcony faces...am sure you will be happy, have had it in the past when I had a house, only problem being when it gets windy, the dish can move, but hopefully you have someone to move it around for you...hope this helps...J.
Hated the dish. It had to be pointed in such a way to get service... unluckily for us, there were too many trees around so it blocked the signals and thus our service was shoddy. I hated that it was dependent on the elements.
When we moved, we thought "great! Now we can hopefully get better, more reliable service since we were more inland (and thus more away from nature). Plus, you can just transfer your service with you anywhere you go, so it would be no biggie.
NOT. There just happened to be a huge tree blocking the only spot we could put the dish. Ugh! When we called to cancel the service, we were told that we CANNOT cancel due to the contract, despite the fact that we CANNOT get service! They even sent a tech guy over to help us, but to no avail. It wasn't even something that we or they could solve, yet still we have to pay for the service due to the contract. They reduced the monthly fee due to these factors but still... the principal of it sucks! If we cant get service, we should be let out of the contract! Then, the person on the phone had the audacity to tell us that "we should have checked that" before we moved into our new place. As if whether or not the Dish satellite worked was a factor in moving into our new house!!!!
I much prefer Comcast cable, which is what we now use... that's right. We have to pay for TWO services now!!!!
We did that and regreted it. Every time there is a storm with a lot of wind we had to call the company to reset our dish. With cable there is no problems like that.
I switched from Direct TV to Dish and Love it. I Loved Direct TV too, but they screwed up my bill and billing and I couldn't get any customer service in that regard. That really upset me, and I switched. When I did, the Dish installer said he alone was changing about 5 people a week from Direct TV to Dish Network for the same jacked-up billing and over charging issues. My Mom has Comcast. It costs more or I would too. I love their selection of free movies, and "on demand" programing. I Love being able to turn on the TV and watch my favorite program whenever.
My mom has a dish and she hates it, it's harder to navigate for channels. Cable is much more user friendly and reliable in my opinion. Comcast is doing a lot of upgrades right now in order to compete with the hd line up, I'd stick with cable.
We have Dishnet. My parents also swithced to Dish from Direct cuz it was cheaper for the package they wanted. I think Dish's remote is easier to use, I never did get the hang of their old Direct one.
We have directv and like it. My brother has DishNetwork and likes that. the bigger difference I saw with my brothers is he has more tv's hooked up than we do because we need the receivers and his tv's seem to work without receivers, but I think he pays alittle more.
Cable is nice, but very pricey. The biggest drawback to satellite is it goes out when a storm moves in, but the longest it's ever been out was 30 minutes.
Good Luck - I know it's a confusing choice.
I have you checked into AT&T Uverse? I have a couple of friends who have it and love it - just another option
