I am wondering if anyone out there knows of any place that offers meals, such as a Thanksgiving Dinner donation that could be delivered. A very good friend of mine has been spending days and nights in the hospital with her brother that had gotten the swine flu and has been hospitalized for over a month...in an induced coma, hooked up to ventilators that are completely doing his breathing for him. My friend, her mother and now her grandmother have been by his side at the hospital since Oct. 4th. They've all missed a great amount of work and are even having a hard time pulling together money for meals...while away from home. I've donated restaurant meal certificates and many are trying to help out where they can. But with Thanksgiving coming up, I was wondering if anyone knew of a place that offered any type of assistance/donation for those that have been spending day after day in the hospital with a loved one. I know it's probably a shot in the dark....but I figured I'd throw the question out there, just in case someone had a great idea that hasn't been thought of yet. These people have been through so much and I just want to try to help as much as I can! They are very loving and caring people that would truly deserve it! We're having a car wash, this weekend, for the family in hopes to raise money for them to put towards bills....but was still hoping for a little extra, to help them through the holidays. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!!! The AZ Republic did do a story on my friend's brother a couple of weeks ago, the person that wrote the story has said they will try to help us get the word out about the car wash...which is amazing and very much appreciated!! I'm just wanting to try for a little extra, especially with Thanksgiving only 2 1/2 weeks away! :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Oh, thank you soooo much!!!!!! That IS great information to have....that could help out tremendously!!!!!! I'm going to definitely look into getting her family a box. I think we decided that a group of us will just donate an item or two each for their Thanksgiving Dinner. I have a 11 lb. turkey and potatoes so far that I'm going to donate....hopefully the other sides will be easier for others to donate. :) Thanks so much for the great advice though!!!!! It is very useful and very much appreciated!!!!!!!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
I really appreciate EVERYONE'S suggestions!!!!!!! Those are some VERY good ideas! :)
If anyone needs their car washed or knows anyone that needs their car washed....we will be having a donation car wash on Sat. Nov. 14 from 9 am-noon in the parking lot of the Kindercare Learning Center located at 1810 East Southern Avenue Mesa, AZ 85204-5213...on Southern Ave. just west of Gilbert Rd, next to Mesa High School. My friend doesn't know that we are having this car wash yet, we want to surprise her with the proceeds. :)
Thank you mommas for all of your support!! :)

This information will not help with the Thanksgiving meal however this could help with other meals. The November boxes had to be ordered by 11/08 (maybe if you contact them they might still be able to help you for November) however you can check back on their website to order for December. It is a great program. My friend bought a box and said that it was really good food. The program is www.thetreasurebox.org. You get a weeks worth of food for a family of four for only $30. Everything comes frozen plus with all the food you receive you also receive recipes on how to prepare them all. You can order as many boxes as you need.

Good luck! What a special friend you are!

I read that article! I'm sorry to hear he is still in the hospital. If I remember correctly they live more in Centra1/West Phoenix, right? I don't know of any places on that side of town but there is the Open Arms Center in Gilbert. My church collects donations each month for them. You could give them a call and they may be able to help out or refer you to a place in the family's area. They're lucky to have you as a friend.

St Vincent De Paul Society helps people in need with food donations, etc. I know they are collecting food from alot of parishes give them a call or visit them I know there's a location in Chandler. Good luck and my prayers go out to the family.
