My son just turned 3 weeks old and has already started cutting his first tooth. Baby orajel is not recommended before 4 months and teething toys are too much for his little mouth right now. I would appreciate any insight thank you!

What can I do next?

Whoa! That's early. I would take a baby washcloth and wet it then put it in the freezer for about 30 minutes. He can chew on that easier than a teething toy. You can also take Hylands Teething tablets, crush them up, and give them too him. It might take the edge off and they dissolve easily. There is also a teething pacifier made by Playtex. He might be able to tackle that. Good luck!

have you tryed the teething tablets from wal-mart? those worked the best for my kids. I'm not sure about the ages. but the disolve REALLY fast. when my kids were teething I would give them one of those then some tylenol. By the time the tablet wore off the tylenol had kicked in. Hope this helps.

interestingly enough, teething releases histamines. i wet my finger with benadryl (which is an anti-histamine) and rub it on my sweet baby's gums. be sure you consult your pediatrician (if you haven't already) though, 3 weeks is WAAAAAY early to start teething, there might be something else going on.

I would not be concerned. My daughter had three teeth at three months and 12 at one yeaar old. I have even heard of children being born with a tooth or two. Each child develops at thier own rate. The doctors set a adverage, but there are always those that fall just outside of the adverage. But still consult your doctor when you go in for your next visit or before if it becomes a problem.

We used Teething Tablets fromt he Natural Market in our area, and they worked well for us, although I have no idea what the age restrictions are. You will probably need to consult your Pediatrician.

Good luck!

Our boys never cared for Orajel. When they had teething trouble, we gave them infant Tylenol for the pain. That was the only thing that really helped them be happier. Oh, wait! Hyland's Homeopathic Teething Tablets work great! They dissolve quickly and are very tiny, and we found that giving a dose of Tylenol accompanied by a teething tablet or two helped our infant to fall asleep easier. Once he fell asleep he could generally stay asleep through teething pain. But the teething tablets work miracles and you can find them at Walgreens and at natural food stores.

Some teething toys that might be helpful for a tiny mouth are the MAM Multi Soothe Teether - it's thinner and lighter than most teethers - and Sophie the Giraffe by Vulli. The latter is soft natural rubber and squeaks and my boys love it.

One thing I did once that worked really well, was to take some ice and crush it. Then I filled a clean baby sock with it and tied the end. It is a great texture for them to chew on and it is cold. M.

Teething Tablets. They dissolve in baby's mouth. Walmart and Walgreens carry them that I know for sure.

That is very early! Well, I wouldn't give tylenol because my Pediatrician said not to give it before 2 months of age. What worked for my son is if your baby takes a pacifire wet it with water and stick it in the freezer for a few minutes. I would also talk to your baby's doctor because that is way early to be teething. Good Luck!

Vibrating toys should help a lot. My absolute favorite is the jiggler elephant facial massager at amazon.com. It's about $18, but worth EVERY PENNY. Both of my kids have LOVED IT. Make sure to get the elephant, though. The ears are flat and the trunk is nice and small to fit in a little mouth. It's battery-powered and vibrates to help mouths feel better. The only downside is that you have to help them use it...it would be dangerous to leave them alone with it as they could choke if they stuck the wrong end in. My son used his until he was done teething around age 2. It's a miracle "toy".

We also used teething tablets available at target, walmart, etc.

I gave my son tylenol, he was a preemie and they gave it to him in the hospital when he barely weighed 5 lbs, I would consult with your pediatrician because it was a lower dose than what was on the bottle.

Teething that early has to be tough! Hang in there!
