Does anyone have a miracle cure for teething pain. My 3 1/2 month old is already cutting his first tooth and he is miserable. I am just wondering if anyone has some suggestions to help him with the pain. Also, is it going to be this painful everytime another tooth comes in?

What can I do next?

My daughter LOVES washcloths. I usually wet them a little with cold water and she chews on it. Cold (never frozen) teething rings are also great. If it really seems to be bothering her, you can also try some tylenol or motrin.

Baby orajel worked really good for my son. You can try a little tylenol with it too to help with the pain. My son goes through quite a bit of pain with his teeth but we're getting through it. It's a long battle but we're finally getting to the molars. Good luck!

Hi A.,

My son is getting his second set of new teeth, so I feel your (and his) pain. What works for us is a wet washcloth. He loves "chewing" on it and it really seems to make him feel better. I've also heard that dipping a corner of the washcloth in water and then popping it into the freezer will also provide a nice teether. And I've heard that freezing a cucumber and giving him that to chew on also works well. It doesn't freeze fully but stiffens up just a bit.

Good luck!

From what another mom has wrote about the washclothes, my sons did the exact same thing. They really didn't like the teething rings but having cold wet rags seemed to work. I wish you the best of luck. Take Care

What I found that helped is Hylands Teething tablets. I did the teething tablets and Tylenol together at nite to help my son sleep and it worked wonders, and thruout the day I would give the teething tablets every couple of hours.

Good Luck

I have never tried the teething tablets with my kids (because I'd never heard about them...but I ill this time around!), but all of my kids were soothed by a cold washcloth as well. I just wrapped it around my pinkie and let them chew away. Orajel seemed to work a little, but not much. Their back teeth will typically hurt worse because it is a flat, broad surface pushing through the gums versus the sharper, more slender edge that front teeth have. So, unfortunately, for most kids the front teeth are much easier to cut through. When they are older and are cutting their back molars, I think it's okay to let them chew on frozen teethers, but not with smaller children. Just try out a few different things until you find what works best for him. Good luck; I know how hard it is to feel helpless when your baby is hurting! Just remember, it won't last forever!

HI A.- My son did great with his first two teeth and then after that, not so good at all! We did use orajel and tylenol when needed.(once approved by your doctor) Also- there are these Homeopathic teething tablets, all of my friends used those over orajel and they had really good luck, they just desolve under the tongue-no choking hazard or anything. Get at Walmart or whatever... We have some but eventually our son thought they were like candy, so not sure they worked all that well for us, but try!
Other than that, he really liked chewing on his crib! Not that I allowed him to do so, but that must have been what soothed him-wood! But hang in there -the teeth seem to only hurt for a little while, of course then you get another one after that! Good luck, hang in there!

Wow, early teether! We used ibuprophen and tylenol with my son. You can rotate them for timing issues.
We have also tried Hyland teething pills. They are all natural and dissolve in liquid well.
With our son, the first one was the worst. The morals were bad as well. Some other teeth were painful, but nothing was like the first.
good luck!

The only thing that helped my son was teething tablets. As far as I know, the only place around here that carries them is Target. If you ask the pharmacist they can show you right where to find them. They work wonders, and dissolve quickly! No messing with rubbing gumbs at all, just put them on baby's tongue.

With my son, the first teething was the worst. After that, he seemed to get used to it.

Good luck!

On both of my babies we used baby orajel and had the teething pills on hand. My now 6 mo old daughter falls asleep as soon as I give her the orajel. She brought in her bottom 2 almost two months ago. She is again teething and we'll just use the same methods. Also give him something to chew on. A cold teether, rub your fingers on his gums that makes them feel better too. A cold wash cloth to chew on might help to.
These are all things that we have tried.
Good luck! Steph

I used HYLAND'S TEETHING TABLETS with my daughter. They are a God send! They are all natural and have no side effects. I was able to get them at Wal-mart. They were in the vitamin isle, not where you expect to find them. Hope it helps!

Hi there! I had really good luck with teething tablets. They're a homeopathic option that helps with pain, irritability, wakefullness, etc. I'll admit I was nervous to use them at first, because I didn't know much about homeopathic cures, but nothing else I had tried worked (oragel, teething rings, etc) especially at night when she was trying to sleep. These worked miraculously well! A friend had reccommended them to me and I'm so thankful she did. I had a bit of a hard time finding them at first and they may have moved them now, but the last time I bought them, Walmart had them in the Pharmacy section and Walgreens had them in their baby section. They're a tiny white bottle and I've seen two different brands and both worked the same for me. One brand I remember is "Humphrey's" but I can't recall the other one right now. Good luck!

I can totally relate to the pain a child is in during this time. I have twins that are 21 months old, one can cut a tooth w/o any difficulty, but the other suffers. I have used teething tables, they are a natural remedy, but they work, at least for us. They are by "Hylands" and they also make a natural gum gel too. You can buy it at a local drug store, natural health food store or I get mine from www.ihealth.com where it is about 1/2 the price. I think it's the only thing that saves my little one when its time for her to cut a tooth. Tylonel is fine, but the I prefer not to load them up with that. Good luck, please do not hesitate to "PM" me if you need anything else.

Hey there A.,

I'm sorry your little one is hurting. Once the tooth breaks the skin, it shouldn't hurt anymore. ;) My only suggestions for a baby his age are oragel and tylenol. He's pretty young for teething toys. Hopefully after cutting this first tooth, the rest won't be so bad for him (and you!).

Good luck to you!

Hello! I would imagine that all of the teeth will be just as painful as the first. The best thing that I found for my son is the Hyland's Teething Tablets. I found them at Walmart in the aisle with the pacifiers. If you can as the tablets dissolve in their mouth rub there gums with it. They are wonderful. Although at night I would give my son pain reliever(tylenol when he was younger, motrin after 1). They tylenol didn't seem to work to well after he was one. Hope this helps.

Hi, A.. My son also started teething at 3 1/2 months. I use Little Teethers on him. He doesn't like it, but it works very well. Orajel, etc. also does a great job. Before a tooth is read to pop out, you'll probably see a welt or some swelling on the gum. When we see this, we give our son baby Motrin. It helps with the pain and also helps with the swelling. A lot of people swear by frozen teething rings or frozen pacifiers, but my son just played with them instead of chewing on them. To answer your final question, yes. Just wait until it's time for molars!

Good luck.

As Gale mentioned, Teething Tablets were the most amazing thing I ever discovered. They are made with natural herbs and are regulated, so they are safe. They disolve in the mouth. I had thought it might be psychosomatic, until I had a severe toothache myself that became an emergency root canal situation. I couldn't sleep (I couldn't get in to the dentist until the next day) from the pain, so in desparation, I took some of the tablets (I took the max dosage). They worked almost instantly and helped me get through the horrible pain. So, I am a firm believer in teething tablets! There are a few brands (Hyland's, Dr. Smith's, etc.). They are usually in a small bottle with a pink/blue label, regardless of brand. Some pharmacies have them behind the counter and some have them near the vitamins, while still others have them near the tylenol. I would just as at the pharmacy counter. If the person you ask doesn't know, be sure to check with the pharmacy. My daughter teethed early, too, and teething tablets saved my sanity and her pain!
