Teething and Peditrician

My daughter started teething at 2-3 months old, and got her first 2 teeth at 4 1/2 months old. She's 5 months now and working on her 3rd!

We give her tylenol and baby orajel. It makes her feel better to "chew" on her fists, a cold washcloth, teething ring or even a pacifier.

Usually by the time it gets really bad, is when the tooth is about to push through.. and then after that, it's smooth sailing! (Until the next tooth anyhow)!

I gave my daughter motrin at 4 months old. Tylenol just wasn't strong enough. My mother in law told me that motrin helps iflammation....Tylenol doesn't do that. It for sure worked!!

Hi! Both of my kids got their first teeth at about four months. I don't think I gave any medicine at that point, but let them suck on unopened freezer pops (the kind without sugar!). We love our pediatrician--David Hendrick at Aspen East Lake Medical Clinic.

My son started teething at four months also. It's been a while so I don't exactly remember what we gave him for pain.

My children have been going to see Doctor Pamela Haggie. She is an awesome doctor. And stops to answer all over you questions in full length.

We go to Southdale Pediatrics, and they are great! They have a few offices, we go to the Burnsville one. It was recommended to me by many friends and people at work, and I just switched my son to their in July (he was 2 in april), after having the same dr his whole life. We LOVE it! They are great! The other offices are Edina and Eden Prairie. I don't know how convenient that is for you, but if you are interested, the phone number is ###-###-####. They are always good about getting my son in when needed, and the Dr's never rush you, and explain everything well. My son even loves going there! The waiting room is great, he cries when we leave! Good luck! (for the teething... I would HIGHLY recommend Hylands Teething tablets, available at Walgreens. If it is teething, they should work well, and are natural with no side effects. The home daycare my son was in when he started teething called them miracle tablets after I brought them, and recommended them to all the other parents. They work great! Even if the baby gets the whole bottle... poison control says they will be fine... my friends older daugther got them when her 2nd was teething. I don't think the Motrin is a big deal, my son had it under 6 months, at the Dr's request. I never use tylenol now, because it never helps, but Motrin helps A LOT! GREAT for ear infections, since it is an anti-inflamatory. If Motrin helps your son... then don't worry about it! That is just like no sunscreen under 6 months old.. the container says it, but if you ask the Dr, they will say it is fine) Good luck!

I used orajel and motrin with my daughter when she started teething...but that was a LONG time ago (she is almost 9)

I do not recall where the other clinics are, but my sister and I use this clinic for a variety of reasons...They accept most insurance (health partners and blue cross blue shield for sure), when you call in you are not put to your doctors voice mail, you speak to the doctor. They feel if it is important enough for you to call in, they will take the time to talk to you when you do. The rooms are a little small and cramped, but I love it, and I am VERY picky about doctors that see my child, they are located in our neighborhood, we had recommendations from many people that bring their children there, and it being young adult also, your child can see the same doctor until his 18th birthday. Another good point is they have free parking. That is not the easiest thing to find in the cities! They are located right next to Childrens Hospital, and that is the Hospital they send patients to if necessary.

I was told not to give a baby Motrin until they are at least 6 months old. What we did when our daughter was teehing was give her baby oragel. It comes in Q-Tips. You break one end, and the get comes out the other, rub it all over their gums and it makes them feel better. It would help you determine if he is teething or not. Hope it helps

I gave both of my children motrin before 6 mos. I used to work in an in patient peds unit at Region's and we gave motrin to babies under 6 mos all the time. Tylenol does not seem to work as well. Hope that helps.

I feel your pain in this venture. My 3 1/2 month daughter is getting TWO teeth in! Isn't it just AMAZING how fast they grow up! I haven't tried the Motrin but that is only because the Tylenol works fine for Abby.

I see that others have also recommended Pediatrics and Young Adult Medicine. I take my little one there to see Dr. Saxton, I cant recommend her enough, I think she is fantasic. A couple of times I also saw Dr. Plotnik if I needed in right away and Dr. Saxton wasn't available. She is also really good, I recommend her as well. They also have four locations which is nice.

It definatly sounds like your little guy is teething. I actually didn't go for the Tylenol except on the really bad nights when she would wake in the middle of the night screaming. Then I would use that and also the baby anbesol on her gums, not always being able to tell were they were coming in I just made sure I got the top & the bottom. I would provide him with a number of teething ring, but remember if you want them cold to only put them in the fridge. Freezers can damage them.

With teething they are also more likely to get colds, so that is something to be aware of.

The box and peds both say to wait until 6 months on the motrin...have you tried the hylands teething tablets? I actually have not tried them, but a lot of mothers on this site will tell you they work wonders.
Here a few other ideas
Freeze a damp washcloth
Freeze a pacifier or teething ring
Rub the gums to help promote the tooth to break through
Orajel or numbing jels (these never worked for me)
Unfortunaetly I cant recommend a ped for you but good luck with the teething.

my daughter started getting teeth at 4-5 months, so you are probably right...you have an early teether.
