My almost 18 week old daughter had been teething since she was 12 weeks. Her teeth still arent through yet. I feel so bad for her because you can tell she is in pain!! Her top and bottom gums are both trying to come through. I have tried teethers and cold washcloths bt she doesnt like them. She bites everything. Sometimes when she takes her bottle she bites the nipple really hard then pulls it out of her mouth over and over. Orajel doesnt seem to be working. Last night she had a fit. She didnt want anything and nothing I did was working. I just want her teeth to come through. Her ped. said we should be seeing them very soon because of how long she has been teething. I want to give her some relief but I dont want it to slow down the teething process. Any suggestions??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

SO the teething tablets worked great! Thanks to everyone. And the frozen washcloths did too. I dont know why buit she hastes the teether. Still does! But we have 2 teeth so far and her Dr. said he can feel the ones next to those trying to break through and also her molars. Apparently she will be getting all of her teeth at once. So those teething tablets will come in handy again very shortly! Again thanks to all of your great advice!

I used to by the really large pretzels for my son. I think they are Snyder's in a big brown box. The salt on them acts as a nubbing agent. You have to watch her because she may be able to bite off a piece. I also used to put celery or carrots in the freezer and give them to him. He actually would take them right out of the fridge. My son hated the teething rings and wash cloths too. There also is homeopathic tablets made by Hyland's that my friend swears by. Good luck

I would suggest Hylands Teething tablets. My daughter cut teeth for 2 months straight had 8 teeth by the time she was 6 months old. Teething tablets was the biggest lifesaver EVER!! You can get them at Walgreens or Walmart.

R.,

All fruit popsicles were a life-saver when my son was teething. He didn't get juice-- so he loved the sweet taste and if you get the all fruit ones they are only 30 calories each (and they won't eat the whole thing). The popsicle will numb her mouth and give her some relief. YOu can also try motrin to take the edge off. My son was an early teether too. It actually helped alot to keep him really busy-- the busier they are the less they can focus on the pain (kind of like adults). Also, giving my son a bath sometimes helped when nothing else worked. I guess maybe it just relaxed him.

Good luck!

R., my little guy went thru the same thing, he is now 18 months old. It was my last resort, but we used infant Tylenol, and that seemed to ease it a little, but infant motrin worked the best, if you want to go that route, some moms don't want to use meds. I was one of them until I saw how much relief it gave him. We only did it at afternoon and bedtime and it seemed to do the trick. Try this too: we put popsicles sticks in an ice tray with water and put it in the freezer, then when they were frozen they were small water popsciles that helped. Hope I was at all helpful. Good Luck. It does get better, then worse, then better, etc you get my pointe. K.

When my two kids were young and teething they didn't like the teethers or the orajel didn't work either. I used pure vanilla extract on their gums and it seem to work.. I just knubs the gums.. I hope that you daughter gets to feeling better.

R.,
I used a homeopathic tablet simply called Teething Tablets. You can find them at the major chain stores with the vitamins. The brand is Hylands and it is usually a small blue and pink box. These worked miracles on both of my children. The small tablets can either go into the mouth and they dissolve instantly or you can put them in a couple of drops of water and use a dropper.

I can't recommend them highly enough! No side effects and real results. I loved them. I still have some in case a friend's baby is teething..so I can show them what they are.

Best wishes.
M.

Have you tried children's Tylenol? It seems to help my 8 month old twins when they are cutting new teeth.

I used hylands teething tablets with my daughter, if there are milk allergies in your family you need to be careful, the hylands brand has lactose in it, although not very much, it was enough to make son who is allergic to milk, sick.

There are no side effects and they worked when nothing else did.

the best thing i found for my daughter who started teething at 2 1/2 months was letting her suck on pretzel rods. when she was so little i used to hold them just like a bottle and let her suck on them. the hard salt helps wear down the gums and helps them break through faster.

Oh R. Im sorry your poor little one is suffering. My son went through something similiar my ped told me to give him a little tylenol or motrin at night for pain not a lot and not every nite! It helps the baby sleep and relieve her of that nawing pain as well. but another suggestion is ice, take one of her baby wash clothes because their softer and wrap a smal piece of ice in it and let her bit on it (you holding it of course) but let her bit down on it, the coolness will sooth her little gums and the hardness of the ice may help push those teeth through, I hope one of my suggestions helps sweetie good luck I hope shes feeling better soon.- R. I used Hylands teething tablets the entire time my firtst little boy was teething. They are all natural and can be put in the childs drinks so they can get the relief without having to taste the tablet. They worked great for him. They have chamomile and other natural supplements in them. I plan on using thwm with my last child as well. You can find them at most big grocery stores in the baby or vitamin section. I buy them at Walmart. HTH

Dear R. P.,
I to am a young mom I am 24 years old and I now have a 3 year old daughter. I also had the same problems with her with teething. She was a very earlier teether. What seemed to work for her was a medicine called Triaminc teething swabs. They are like a q-tip that has the medicine inside. My daughter loved it. So I just thought that I would give you a little advice if it doesnt work I am very sorry. Take care.
Sincerely,
L. C.

When All of my children were teething I bought these tablets called teething tablets they dissolve under there tongues and they are all natural and they really do help. With those you don't have to worry about the numbness and worrying that if they drink something are they gonna choke because they cant feel it. You can get the tablets at any drug store and they are not that expensive

You may want to try teething tablets. I pick them up at Bassets health food. They are all natural and REALLY seem to help my son (he is 16 months old now). I did some research on them and they are auctually supposed to promte the teeth breaking through quicker. I am not sure how you feel about natural/herbal remidies, but from experience, I can tell you they have worked for me. Now your daughter may be a little young for this, but I have found that a frozen french frie (crinkle cut)woks very well for my son. He has never liked the teaters or washcloths, but the FF has been great. It seems to have the right mix of texture and coldness to sooth him.
Good luck and hope this helps!!

I heard that wrapping cheese cloth around a piece of frozen banana works great.

Hi R.,
My son is just breaking his first tooth. The Tylynol seems to help as well as a wash cloth dipped into cold water. I have to keep dipping the cloth in and hold it for him while he sucks on it and I use flavored water so I think that he wants it more because of that. I would suggest to stop using the Orajel though, all I have ever heard is that it toughens the gums and actually makes it more difficult for the teeth to break through. I am also going to be checking with my Ped Dr about Motrin. Many of my friends had luck with switching back and forth between tylynol and motin.
Best of Luck!
A.

I'm not sure if your daughter is old enough to have this, but when my oldest was teething I was told to try a frozen banana.
It worked for him.
I was even told that you could tie the frozen banana a piece of cheese cloth, to make it like a bag, if your afraid that she might "bite" a piece of banana off before it turns to mush.
