Hi J.
It is teething... I have a 4 month old who is going through the same thing.. I talked to his Dr. and he advised that if he gets a fever, diarreha( did i spell that right)drooling and irratable he is cutting teeth.
My son is 5 months old and I think he is teething. He has been drooling like crazy for the past month. The last couple of days he has been really cranky. Also,he is rubbing blankets, his clothes and our hands across his gums. During the past couple of days he has been sleeping very very little. Does this sound like teething? What else should I expect?

Sounds like teething. Drooling is the biggest sign. My daughter chews on everything. Congestion seems to be pretty common when teething also.
If the teething bothers him, you can get baby Orajel at the store OR your doctor can get you another type that works really well...I can't remember the name. We don't do the Orajel, but my daughter loves the teething bisquits. Her favorite is the one you find at Whole Foods that you can freeze. The cold seems to feel good on her gums. It's really messy though. We also have the teething toy that vibrates. Another thing that helps is the little mesh bag that you can get at Target or Babies R Us. We freeze apples and pears and put it in that for her to chew on when she gets really fussy.
I would also advise that you give Tylenol before sleeping time, and our very favorite teether has been putting fozen fruit( not strawberries they are too messy!) in to a mesh feeder and letting him go to town. I only wish I had known about this with my older kids. I have also heard great things about teething tablets, and I think you can get them at Walmart, but it might be only available at natural health stores. I personally never used them, but I know lots of people who did and loved them. The frozen fruit worked great for us. I will say that it was around 5-6 months that my son started refusing to eat baby food. He had been doing well, but while his teeth were coming in he wanted nothing to do with a spoon in his mouth. He has since come around, but it took about a month or so for his teeth to cut through. I wish you the best of luck getting through this time, it can be exhausting, but know that this too shall pass! ~A.~
