My best friend with two now grown kids SWEARS BY Hylands teething tablets. Thats what I'm going to try for my little one when I notice she's having problems with her teeth. Also maybe try giving him a wash cloth rinsed with some really cold water for him to suck on. Good luck and I hope he feels better soon.

Try the homeopathic teething tablets made by hylands. I gave those to my daughter when she was 4 months old (she wasn't sleeping from the pain) within 20 minutes the pain was completely gone. And since they are homeopathic you can also give doses of tylenol and orajel. We live by them now and i reccommend them to any new mom dealing with them and they also love them. You can get them in the baby aisles at Walmart. They are the best things in the world. i also think the same company makes gas tablets and tablets for ear aches also

Hyland's homeopathic teething tablets- sounds strange but they really work! You can use them as often as needed- very safe- give 3 to baby to dissolve in his mouth.
You can find them in the drugstore- try CVS.
Good luck!

Hi,
Some things I did w/ all 3 of my kids was taking those teething toys that had liquid in it and putting them in the refrigerater NOT FREEZER!! Then once they cool off the baby loved chewing on them cause they were cool and it eases the pain. The other route to go is the Ambesol gel that you put directly on the babies gum. There is a bunch of products out there that are safe for babies. There is also gummi bed rails that go on the rails of the crib. If they are able to send up in the crib they automatically go for the rails w/ their mouths. Some ideas for u good luck.

I used two homeopathic remedies that worked well with my son that I bought right at the local grocery store. One were the little pellets by Boiron and it is called Chamomilla. The second was a gel that you rub on. Unfortunatly I don't remember the exact name of the brand. I felt better using these rather than tylenol or something more "unantural" but everyone is different

Hi J., try wetting a washcloth and freezing it for about an hour.. Give it to him to suck and teeth on.
Another trick that was given to me by my MD when my first was teething was to rub his gums with childrens benedryl. Not alot just enough to coat the tip of your finger. It numbs the area and gives you at least a little time to breath before it wears off. :)

Baby oragel, Hylands teething tablets, cold teething rings, put in fridge, not freezer, freeze a damp wash cloth and let them go to town on it... the tooth will break through and you will have some relief, but the cycle will continue for another year or so..

My son was always big on chewing on a cold wet washcloth. It might sound a little funny but it worked. I guess I should have asked how old your son is. try baby motrin. Ibuprofin (the painkiller in motrin) reduces swelling as well as stopping the pain. A lot of the reason for the teething pain is the pressure from the swollen gums. Give the Motrin every 8-10 hours, because Motrin works on itself...if you only give it to the baby when it seems to be in pain it is less effective. And finally, I found this teether that is shaped like a star on a handle and it vibrates when you bite it...my son loved it when he started teething. Good Luck. :)

Hi J... poor thing! First and foremost....CALM DOWN. It seems tat he will statve to death but alas; your baby will be fine. Try freezing a wet washcloth and let him have his way with it. As a rule, the kids seem to like the frozen stuff and if you have a teething ring, freeze that and let him gnaw on it. It is comforting and soothes the gums and the Mommy too! When he is in a good mood, offer him something to eat and something to gnaw on. Back in the day, people put whiskey on the gums and that numbed them. Now we use baby ora gel. If it gets real bad, ask the Pedi if you can give him a little motrin or tylenol. Sometimes they need the help with that but always check first.
This will pass and you will be a pro in the field. BEST OF LUCK, MOMMY!

Hi Jamie,
There are two things that seemed helpful when my daughter was teething.
One was the Baby Oragel Swabs. Although the effect was not long-lasting, it did provide some relief.
This was the very effective solution: I bought a few packages of the very thin, small washcloths, washed them, wet them and put them in the freezer. When my daughter was having teething issues she would suck on them. They were not hard like many of the freezable products on the market, but softened and she sucked on them. They really seemed to provide some comfort and relief.
I hope all goes well.

i gave my daughter some natural 'something' teething stuff. if you look in pathmark (or possibly other stores, but pathmarks' the only place i've seen it) it comes with a baby pooh and tigger (i think it's tigger) on the bottle. i would give her a drop of it, and it would put her right out and it was all herbal. i didn't have to give it to her too often, just when she needed to go to sleep and it was too much pain for her. i also got her one of those vibrating teethers (she still uses it now with molars coming in) and since she was eating solids, i allowed her to suck/chew on pretzel sticks (the small ones, not the jumbo ones until just recently as she's almost 2 now). also, try to start brushing the teeth...it helps break them through the gums (at least it did for my daughter...she chewed more then brushing though lol).

HI Jamie,
My little girl does the samething, she is 5 1/2 months old. We will sometimes give her a teething toy or put her pacifier in the fridge for a bit, give it to her and then feed her. That seems to work sometimes. Other times I give her the bottle, take a break and try again. The formula is good for an hour heated, so you have time. It is fustrating, but it is a phase. You can try baby orajel 4 months and up, just a little bit. A little goes a long way!! And a little TLC and that all I can think of, hang in there only a few more years of it. LOL. Alison

Hi,
My son experienced a lot of pain with teething when he was an infant and toddler. When he was in pain, I gave him motrin--this was only after trying an assortment of other palliative methods--frozen bagels, ice, letting him chew on my finger, etc. None of these methods soothed him.
If you try motrin, just be sure to give him the correct dosage, keeping in mind his weight and age.
Now my son is 7 years old and is a happy and engaged kid!
A little about me: I am a Mom of a 10 year old daughter (had no problems with teething) and a 7 year old son

J., Teething is a miserable time....they get through it (so will you!). Try giving him a rag with cold water to suck on. Wring it out, but make sure the water is cold. It will help soothe and numb the gums and then try and feed him. There really isn't any miracle cure unfortunately. Baby Anbesol can help....I don't know how old he is. They also use to make those plastic rings that you put in the freezer and my girls would suck on that and it helped numb the gums too....you can probably find them in walmart/target. My girls are 14 and 19 now, so I'm not sure what's out there, but I'm sure they still have them....good luck. N.

Are you giving anything to help comfort the pain? ie, tylenol or ibprofen? Try a teething ring and oragel. My neighbor swears by those teething "pills" one brand name is Humphrey's. I know there's a few other brands out as well. Hope it helps.

The frozen washcloth also worked wonders for my baby. I didn't go to the homeopathic medicines because just because homeopathic medicines are actually drugs. That is why they are sold at the pharmacy. Also none of the teethers I bought worked except for the ones that you refrigerated the gel inside to make it cold. Many of these teethers however become dangerous if you freeze the liquid inside in the freezer. When the gel turns to ice it expands and the and then the rubber the baby bites on gets weak--a piece of rubber can fall off and choke the baby. Also my son also bit pieces off some other teethers as well so I recommend caution when using all teethers.

The homeopathic remedy Chamomilla is a wonderful remedy for children who cannot bear the pain and are inconsolable. They will reject the offer of anything you try to give them and will be angry! Usually they have one red cheek and the other pale. Calcarea carbonica is another remedy that is for slow, painful teething. These children are generally plump and happy but on the slower to crawl and walk side. The teeth take a long time to break through and they are very uncomfortable. They are more of the whining variety than the angrier Chamomila. If the symptoms are not exact you can try Hyland's teething tablets which is a combination remedy and then pick up a book and investigate further. this happens as the teeth are breaking through often.
the most important thing is to keep him hydrated.
Nurse often, if you're doing that, (make sure to increase your liquids so your body can meet his demand), or, bottle feed more.
If he won't take a bottle because that hurts, use a medicine dropper. Just make sure liquid gets in there.
It will subside soon.
