Hi all, Have a 6 month old who is just starting the teething process. Looking for some words of wisdom about this. She seems to be just "drowning" in fluid. She has a running nose, wet cough, and hardly sleeping at night. I never realized that teething causes this much fluid in a baby, always knew that there was the drooling but the poor thing really is coughing at night and you can hear it is related to her fluid.

Any words of wisdom on this? Anything that helps? We are giving tylenol, and cool teeting rings but really worried about this coughing at night keeping her up!

What can I do next?

Both of my children started to get teeth very early and had a real hard time. My older son was a walking water fountain and get everything in his path wet. The wet cough can be a part of getting teeth but may also be a small cold mixed with the teething. Good luck it does not last forever.

Motrin if necessary but the teething tablets work pretty well all by themselves. Mine son loves them. He opens his mouth like a little bird when I shake the bottle to get his attention.

He also likes to hold a can of cold soda. I wasn't too excited about him chewing on it so I washed it off first and he seems to calm down instantly.

I still nurse and that seems to work really well. Often that puts him to asleep and I didn't have to give him ANY medications at all.

You might want to rule out that she doesn't have a cold or something else. We used teething tablets which are all natural and you can get them at walgreens or babies r us. They are like magic. They help with the restlessness and the pain. Our daughter is two and getting her last set of teeth and we still use them. We don't even need to use tylenol or ibuprofen.

Most drug stores carry a natual teething gel and tablet, Blue box called Hyland's its a wonderful product. It came out when my 3rd was teething and it saved me on the next 2 also.

When they hit the 6 month mark, you can give them ibuprofen. Motrin or Advil. Ask your pharmacist for the correct dose. It helps SO MUCH better than Tylenol. It helps with the pain and swelling.

Don't get too worried! When you take your little one in for her well-child check up with the dr. at 6 months; bring up your concern. She may be producing too much causing 'pooling' and that could impact her speech development. Good luck-Deb.

I also recommend the teething tablets. They are all natural, called Hyland's teething tablets. I buy mine at Cobon's & have not seen them in the baby isle at Target. But my daughter also has a very runny nose when teething, it started around 5 months old & is still going on. The Dr. told me that Motrin helps with the pain better for teething, she said tylenol doesn't help much but for a fever. I also have given her a freezie, unopened of course & let her chomp on that until her hands get too cold. Hope this helps!

Hi C.! Teething can be a wild ride:) My daughter is teething yet again and has all of those symptoms. Last night I raised up the head of her crib by putting a book under the two legs. It worked great! She slept much better and I did not hear the constant "snurggling" of her trying to breathe!
We also use the Hyland's teething tablets. They work so well! If you use Motrin be aware that it can cause stomach pains if taken on an empty tummy. We found that out the hard way!
Good luck!
