I just noticed that my four month old is cutting his first tooth! Could that be the reason why he's been so fussy with the breast & the bottle lately? He's been taking both with no problem until just recently. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to make this process most comfortable for him? He's being pretty good considering, but I'm not sure if it will get more painful for him as the tooth continues to push out.

What can I do next?

My 8 month old is teething as well. I've tried Tylenol when he's really fussy and has a low grade fever. Hyland teething tablets are also great and can be found at places like Henry's and Albertson's. Babies R Us also carries a teething toy that I would recommend. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2792502.

oh thats probably the culprit right there! what was a life saver for my daughter when she started cutting teeth was the gentle naturals teething drops and her pedi. reccamended tylenol every 4-5hours as needed. we also got teething rings which we kept in the frig. so they were chilled. good luck!

Hi M., Teeting affects babies, eating, sleeping, and for some reasom it seems it's worse at night, what i did with my babies, 1, I chilled a spoon in the freezer and would massage that on their gums.
1. I would put crushed ice in a clean wash cloth put a rubber band around it and let the chew and suck on the rag with the ice in it, it mealts and they get a liilt wet but hey as hot as it is, it will be OK, my kids loved this method.
3. If they were not running a fever, I rubbed the infants tylenol right to the gums, I didn't like medicating my babies
my kids all all grown now, but this is what worked for them when they were babies.

Yes, this is common.
What helped my kids were chewing on a dampened frozen wash cloth. Or, the Hylands Teething tabs. It's homeopathic.

Each child has their own levels of difficulty with teething...my daughter had no problem, my son got fussier. It may also make nursing/feeding more uncomfortable. But it's normal. It will pass.

Also at night, it may be harder for them to sleep, or they may wake more. This is also a temporary thing that can happen with teething.

Just see how your son reacts.. no worries. They also sometimes get more "drooly" or have a slight fever, or get a little looser poops. Some people also use Tylenol. But ask you Pediatrician first, about the dosage.

Also, rubbing his gums may also help. Each child is different. My kids primarily liked to chew on things... this helps to massage the gums as well.

Take care,
Susan
