She is just starting to really socialize again and she wants to have a new years eve party. she 13 and I have agreed to the party as long as I am in the house abd the parents pick there children up at 12:30 AM .But I need some fun teen party ideas for an icebreaker and to keep the party under control.

First find out what she wants and her expectations. .. Then go from there.

I have an almost 17 yr old, we've had a lot of teen parties from the country club to our home.

#1 is they love to munch and snack. A favorite here are the pigs in a blanket, queso, chips, fruits, veggies, and cookies. I have done nachos, pizzas and pasta.

If we don't have a DJ, we use the Bose that holds the IPhone or I pod and plays music. They are not much into games, they like to hang out, eat. We have 2 game rooms with tvs. One for gaming wii and one with a pool table.

My main rule is no alcohol, no tobacco and if someone leaves before the designated time... That's it they are gone for the night.

On large parties, we hire an off duty officer to be around " show the flag" and make sure kids know we don't mess around. Follow protocol or you go home.

You have to have some standards set before the party.

Prime example.... After homecoming party with 12 kids all night at my house both boys and girls this year. My daughter posted on the Facebook homecoming page... House rules.... No sex, no alcohol, no tobacco and my dad has no problem escorting you to the police car if you break legal rules or vandalize our house.

Yes she came across strong but we had no problems. Basically you get rid of any trash before they think about showing up.

Good luck!

It sounds like a wonderful idea (and I bet the other parents will appreciate it too!). I think snacks are the best thing you can do - hot chocolate, sparkling apple cider, nachos etc. I'm sure they will entertain themselves. Good luck!

If she is a "young" for her age and open to fun or silly games at a party there are tons of choices. Often young teens are willing to be silly if "everyone is doing it." One icebreaker game is assigning animals to each person (in pairs) and people have to make that animal sound until they find their match in the group. Any board game for 8 and up is fair game as well. Things like Apples to Apples, Cranium, Pictionary, etc. are fun in a bigger group. She can see if friends have favorites to bring. Also you could serve in sparkling cider in fancy glasses at midnight.

Lots of food and music for dancing.

I am so sorry for your and your granddaughter's loss but am very happy to hear that she is finally recovering. I think this party is a great idea.

Ask your grand daughter if she would like to have a costume party.

No New Years party for a 13 year old. There are other activities such as a movie, pizza party, sleep over (girls only), a mixed couples party....not a good idea.

Very sorry for your and your grandchild's loss, but don't over compensate.

Blessings...
