I know it's only October, but I have to start my planning now. I am needing homemade teacher gift ideas from you all! My daughter's teacher like pottery and anything made by the kids. She already has several pottery pieces made by previous classes. So, besides the obvious homemade gifts of: another pottery piece, quilts, scrapbooks, albums, totes and tshirts...

Do any of you have any other ideas as to what to get her?

By the way, I have poor parent participation, so this would be something I would do with maybe a few other moms. I can't even get these moms to fill out an information sheet and send it in. This is definitely a class with a lack of responsive parents.

OR...should we just forget the homemade class gift idea and have them all do their own gifts?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Always give something they will consume. Baked goods,Body Lotion, movie tickets, gift certificates are a few suggestions. I once helped my second graders teacher move to a different room. She had hundreds of "cute" gifts from previous years. They make great DUST CATCHERS.

Does she really want homemade by parents?

I'd send a note home asking each kid to make her a card (homemade by kids) and let them know you are taking donations towards a gift card. You can take a picture of the class and make a really neat card in which they will attach a gift card of your choice at cardstore.com. I did this last year for my son's teacher. the card from cardstore came out great and for some reason b/c the gift card was professionally tacked into the card and it had a nice picture of the whole class and the teacher on it, it didn't seem as non-personal as handing someone a gift card.

I am a teacher, and I have an outside business. Currently I am taking orders (and already making) gift baskets for office workers, secret santas and teachers. I take care of everything, and prices can be as small or large as you'd like. I've even given our baby sitter one since this week is "nanny appreciation week." :o) You can choose your products from our catalog, and I wrap it and deliver it. Right now the most popular are from our holiday line. The Pampermint foot scrub and cream is the absolute most popular basket combination so far. I also can give gift certificates if that's easier for you.

If you would like more information, I'd love to help you out. You can send me a private message, and I'll give you more detailes. I can even send you some pictures.

Teachers honestly are thankful for anything. You do want to give them something they'll use, though. Good luck, and bless you for wanting to help the teachers out!

I have been making school spirit shirts with rhinestones and the teachers love them. Everyone needs a little bling and at my son's school - Friday is school spirit day. I can send you some examples if you would like. It is a little cumbersome but they love them.

I never ate the baked good I was given because I wasn't 100% sure of when it was made, the conditions, etc. You just can't be too careful. A $5 gift card to Sonic or Starbucks was always a treasure to me. I'd go on your own to do these things.

You can get the "Room Mom" to take pictures during the events and then one of each child. Then for a project you could have the kids write a thank you letter to the teacher and or draw something for her. Then with the website above you could design and publish a hard cover book. I'd be glad to show you one I made!

I'd forget the homemade gift, have all the kids participate in making one lovely card which they sign, and then stick a Starbucks gift card in there.

If other mom's will contribute great, but it sounds like you are on your own pretty much so you'll just have to live with either paying for it yourself or with the help of one or two others, so plan on a smaller gift card.

If you're room mom, the gift should be from all the kids, regardless of their participation.

If you're not room mom and you're doing this you get a Gold Star! And again, all kids should get credit regardless of whether there parent is a slouch or not.
