Hi Moms,
I have a weird request that you might enjoy, and I'll certainly enjoy the responses! My husband is thinking about getting a tattoo that will commemorate our daughters, a newborn and a toddler. Something small and tasteful and meaningful. I thought of having their footprints tattooed on him, but he didn't like that idea. Other than their names and birth dates, does anyone have any ideas for tattoos?

What can I do next?

My brother has a tattoo for his D on his back. It is large but it is an angel with her name. Also, he has his own astrological symbol.

Birth dates in Roman Numerals. Possibly their names in another language depending on your nationalities.
Also are there any traits or nicknames you have for your kids which could translate to some symbol?
i.e...
Lucky= 4 leaf clover
Loving=heart
mischevious=cheshire smile

Maybe their birth stones. Get a tatoo with the color's of their birthstones only. It can be of anything meaningful to him, that would reflect where his girls lie in his heart.
How about a tribal piece of some sort, in/outlined in the colors of the girls' birthstones, with their birthdates hidden inside. That would be really neat.

I'd go to the tattoo parlor, talk to the artist with whom you put down the deposit, about creating a custom design for you. Tell them what you are looking for, about your daughters and see what they come up with. Someimes they come up with some pretty cool work, and generally pay more attention to detail, making sure they get it exactly right and that it looks amazing, when it's one of their own original drawings.

A friend of mine had a drawing done by one of his kids as a tattoo (a cat I think) as a reminder of their childhood. I thought that was pretty cool. I like the roman numeral idea too.

Try to think of symbolic icons that might represent either the conception or the birth of your children. Just as an example, I went into the hospital to deliver my baby on February 13, 2007 and he was born on February 14. You may not remember this but I do - that was the night of a tremendous snow storm (we're talking over a foot) and I was so glad that I was in the hospital having my baby as opposed to being out driving in it. Although I doubt my husband would ever want a snowflake tattoo with dates or names near it, I just throw that story out there as an idea of symbolism that has meaning.

Do you have any stories about the conception of your children (our baby was conceived while out-of-town at a friend's wedding; consequently his middle name is the same as the groom's!)? Any interesting stories about the birth? See if maybe there is something that is personal and unique to their situations that serve as 'symbols' of the conception or birth.

Hi P.!
I love your question! My husband has been trying to come up with something for our daughter so this is something fun to read. My suggestion was her handprint (which he is still considering) with her name written through it. We will see, but who knows maybe your question will help us out.
PS. My brother has a celtic symbol with his boys' name written in it.
Good Luck!

P.,
I have my son's newborn footprints tattooed on my upper left arm with a bottle and rattle and a ribbon with my sons name. Everyone that sees it tell me that it is the coolest tattoo they have ever scene. When my son get's older I want to have him write his name and have that tattooed under this one.
Ever since I started getting tattoos, I always wanted to get one of my child's footprints. After having 3 miscarriages, we were blessed with a son and now I have the tattoo I have always dreamed of!
Good luck to you
P.S. Go to www.tattofinder.com and your husband can look at a ton of tattoos to give him a better idea of what he wants!
