We have an inexpensive fire pit we use for chilly evenings outside. You could buy one and take it with you.
My sons birthday is on saturday and we're renting a pavillion, i've decided to put up some tarps around it so its kind of enclosed (as someone had suggested) BUT just my luck its suppose to be like 45ish and kinda rainy saturday and i was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what i could do to kind of take the chill off. Doesnt have to heat enough to be hot but there will be small kids there and id like it to just not be .. freezing. Thanks!!!

My husband uses a portable little space heater that runs on a propane tank. He uses this when we do projects in our garage in the Winter months.
I think you can buy them at Target, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowes etc...
Just make sure the kids stay away from it so they don't get burned!
Happy Birthday to your little guy! :)
Have you thought about renting an outdoor patio heater?
Party rental places have portable outdoor heaters you can rent. I would check into that!
Could you bring a thermos of hot chocolate?
Perhaps make a tent of blankets over the tables and be sure to put blankets on the floor too.
Are there any other options? Can you switch to an inside venue close by. If you are in the Columbus area I can give you some ideas but I don't know what area you are in. I know the Akron area also.

Besides spending a bunch on getting the outdoor heaters.... how about having hot cocoa and hot apple cider as drinks. You could also get some of the hand and feet warmers that people use in the winter....
Those overhead gas heaters that stand on a post are surprisingly warm. My neighbor had one out on his open porch so that he could use it year-round, and it worked! You can buy them at Home Depot and such but they are very expensive - I don't know if you can rent them somewhere. You should look into it!
