We went in steps, no crying involved.
First of all nothing but water at night. This makes the bottle a lot less appealing. And resolves the issue of causing cavities.
After she got used to this (I waited a few weeks) we transitioned to a hard spout sippy, that does not lend itself to perma-suckling.
No that we are potty training we are graduating to a regular cup of water bedside.

Personally I often wake up thirsty at night, so I don't agree with the "no water after bedtime" approach...
Good luck!

We had good luck with doing the transition in conjunction with introducing milk. We started replacing a few of the midday bottles first with a sippy of milk (my daugher also loved OJ). She was also excited with the straw types. We had to try a bunch of types sippys (Born Free was too hard and Nuby had the best softest tips in both sippy and straw type). Night time bottle was the last to go and don't wait too long to pull the plug on the night time bottle. the longer you wait the more emotional it will be. i put water in the night time bottle and we had about 2 days of complaining but by the 3rd night it was over. Our pediatrician cautioned against watering down the formula so check with yours before doing so. Good Luck!!!

Have you taken the bottle away during the day time? That is the first step. Usually once they quit using the bottle during the day they will easily convert over to a sippy cup at night....

I slowly added water to the night bottle. By the time it was half water half formula, my boys didn't want it anymore. At one year, I got rid of all bottles and didn't offer them. That worked for my boys, so I can't say how it might work for you. I offered the sippy cup more and more until there was just the sippy.

At 12 months my daughter was on 3 bottles a day. Throughout the day since about 7 months she had a sippy cup, so the sippy was not new for her. I started by taking away the afternoon bottle, when she got used to that, I took away the morning bottle, and then finally the night bottle. The total conversion took me about 2 1/2 weeks. S I also try to give her the nighttime milk before she is too tired. It seemed the more tired she was the more she fought the sippy.

JUst take it away. The sooner the better. She will fuss and cry the first night but she will find a new routine and forget about it quickly. That's the good thing about a 1 yr old. Establish a good bedtime routine that she can look forward to each night.

I used to put plain water in the bottle at night when taking my one year old off the bottle and only offered sippy cups during the day. She cried for a little while but then got the idea and threw her bottle out of the bed.
Good luck. Some kids just are ready to give up the security. Does she use a pacifier? That is sometimes a good substitute. I know alot of moms are adverse to them, but you need to remember, kids all mature at different stages. Take time with it.

I used the Nuby Sports Sippers. Have long, soft spouts that were similar to a nipple. We had no issues.

Just toss it. When she eats lunch, and dinner, then you can give her the sippy, but don't let it become a newer version of the bottle. That will defeat the purpose. She may cry for a few nights, but then she will hopefully be fine. It worked for me everytime, and I have 3.

Unfortunately the best way to do it is cold turkey. I had to break my daughter at the age of 2 (not my fault- daddy & grandmas fault)- any how.

I only gave her milk in sippy cup. After 3 days not big deal. It actually wasn't as bad as I thought. She would go to bed with her sippy cup. (not good for teeth). She is now almost 3.5 yr, & now doesn't want anything to drink right before bed.

Do it gradually...start converting one bottle/day to a sippy. Give her a few days of this, then switch the next, and so on. Save night time bottle for the very last, and naps for second to last. GL!
