It happened to me both times I was pregnant. There is really nothing to relieve it completely. Sitting on a pillow helped for a while. Hope that was of some help.
Just wondering if anyone else out there has experienced tailbone pain during pregnancy and what you might have done to relieve the pain.

I, too, had tailbone pain. Try your best to sit with your weight off your tailbone (sit forward some so your weight shifts more to your upper thighs). I drove 5 hours without stopping and thought I might just as well die when I did get out of the car - definitely don't sit for extended periods of time - get up and move around - A LOT. For whatever reason, the tailbone pain didn't last. However, at about 15 months postpartum it came back and my MD said it's because I've been sitting breastfeeding so much for so long, and to try to use better posture (again, get the weight off the tailbone)...it's helping, once again. A chiropractor visit might be helpful and/or massage therapy.
Yes! I know it's awful! I also had hip pain. DOctors said it is because your bones soften. They can prescribe medicine, but mine said it would be a last resort as the medicine could would affect the baby.
Sorry to hear about your pain. Hopefully the docs have figured something out by now on this issue.

Sorry to hear of your discomfort. I did 2 things: the cat stretch. It releived the pain some & felt good overall. Also my dad gave me a pillow, I called it the doughnut. It's got a hole in the middle & the material stretches over the top. I took it with me everywhere, especially while driving. I thnink you'll find them at a medical supply.

Hey C., is your tailbone or your sciatic nerve? Check out webmd.com for an illustraion. I had real bad sciatica, on both sides. The pain usually starts at the dimples on either or both sides of your back, then shoot through your buttock and sometimes down your leg. The only think that helped me was a good chiropracter (ask if they specialize in working with pregnant women) I can recommend a good one if you live near Deltona. Also, lower back massages and my husband would press in near the dimple or painful spot and gently rub. Hot baths and a heating pad helped also. I hope this helps. Good luck!
Wow, I can't beleive anyone else had/has this!!! I had this around the same time as you and it would progress around my hip to my groin, I had back problems before I was pregnant (scoliosis, arthritis)- but usually I would go to chiropractor & after 1,maybe 2, visits I'd have instant releif - well that didn't happen!!! I went to chiropractor 3 times a week until I used up all my insurance visits and then some. My OB did not want me to go to chiro, she said to get massages, but since that wasn't covered on my insurance - I continued w/chiro.
I found releif with yoga - i bought a DVD @ Target "The Method Pilates for pre & post pregnancy" - although some of it is a little hokey (chanting, dancing) it worked!!! I still do a lot of the stretches, because, I hate to tell you this, I still get this intense pain, especially if I have not exercised in 2 or more days.
I never found an answer as to what it is ( I didn't gain alot of weight while pregnant & worked out during) After I had my son, 2 years ago, the pain got worse around 6-8 mos later, I had an MRI and was told I had 5 bulging discs, arthritis, stenosis,etc. - but that was only lumbar. I didn't know my DR didn't ask for Pelvic MRI - I wanted to see if I cracked my tailbone during labor!!!I also went to phys therapy, & they gave me similar stretches to the yoga (which is when I started incorporating everyday) & he told me walking might not be the best thing for me (& he's right). So now I rollerblade (it seems to stretch it out) and swim.
but try the yoga tape & ice.
I'm sorry to ramble, but Drs made me feel crazy. I hope it gets better for you, I can totally sympathize.

I know you know you will be painful, try drinking more water or sleeping on your side with a pillow in between your knees it will take pressure off your back.

Just want to let you know that I did experience the tail bone pain and pressure around 16 weeks. Then at 22 weeks 3 days my babygirl was born! By the Grace of God she is ok but it has been a long road. I advise you to let your doctor know these things and have him check you to see where and how the baby is doing. I do not wish the road that my husband and I have been on since May 22, 2006 to anyone. It was very difficult, our girl was in Winnie Palmer for 4 months. Good Luck to you!
I Had lower back tail bone pain. what i did was lay flat on the floor it help lots!!!!

I experienced so much pain with my last pregnancy I was begging my fiance to just shoot me and get the pain over with!! Tailbone, hip and back pain were my specialties! Soak. In a very warm, not to hot(because of the baby)bathtub. There's a very nice bath salt at Walmart that you can use that is made for these kinds of pains, can't remember the name off the top of my head, but it had a very deep purple label on it. It works!!!! Sit in there for as long as possible...I would soak for hours!!! Got me away from all the people and stress and I just got to relax!!!
Boy do I remeber the tailbone pain! It was a constant throbbing pain. This is what I did: I'd bend over the side of our bed (we have a tall bed) and my husband would place his forearm across my lower back/tailbone area with a lot of pressure. He didn't massage it, he'd just push down for a minute or so and release and do it again. It helped to relieve the pressure somewhat but not a cure-all. It did go away though--I remember one day saying "I haven't had any tailbone pain in a few days...yay!" That was around the 2nd trimester. I hope it goes away soon because I know how tough it was!
