Switching to Cow's Milk

My son is now 11 months. I weaned him a couple weeks ago from breastfeeding and he did really well. He weaned himself and now doesn't want it. I started giving him goat's milk, because he refused to have formula, and I would supplement a multivitamin and extra vitamin d in his day. The goat's milk is starting to get really expensive. Is it ok, at this stage, if I start giving him cow's milk instead while continuing the vitamins? He already eats all table foods and eats really well. I don't worry about his nutrition.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

It's absolutely okay. There is no timer that suddenly goes off at 12 months to say that cow's milk is okay.

You can go half cow/half goat for a while if you're worried....just watch for reactions. And stick with whole milk. Babies' brains need FAT to grow properly...no baby should ever be eating/drinking low-fat.

When you go to transition him start by mixing the milk/other stuff 1/4 milk and 3/4 other stuff. Once that is working okay then go 50/50. If he is liking that okay go 3/4 milk to 1/4 other stuff. This allows his body time to adapt and time to see if there are any allergies. If he is doing okay with the 50/50 he will most likely do just fine.

Taking time to adjust is important. I had a mom on WIC get cut off accidentally. She had no income and could not buy formula at all. She had whole milk at home so she just started giving the little on that. It was sooooooo bad, I have never puked when changing even the worst diarrhea diapers know to man but this child's diaper was soooo bad I had to change them while holding my head in a trash can and retching. The sudden change was too much for her system. She adjusted but it took some time but I was miserable until she did.

We switched our youngest son to whole milk at 11 months. He stopped taking a bottle so we just switched him on over to whole milk and he is a perfectly normal 6 year old!!

If he likes it, yes. It is fine to make the switch barring any tummy issues, but remember - full fat Whole milk until two years old:)

If it were me--and this is just my opinion--if he likes the goat milk, I would continue giving him goat milk. There are many, many people who are allergic to cow milk (I'm one of them). The allergic reactions to cow milk/cow dairy products are many, and not many people/doctors are good at connecting health problems with cow dairy use.

I found out at the age of 40 years old that I have a casein allergy to cow dairy, an allergy I very likely had since I was born. It did a very, very bad number on my health. All of my health issues pointed at cow dairy/milk use--except none of the allopathic doctors I went to during my lifetime were able to see and make the connection. Why? Because they didn't know. I use goat and sheep products these days as well as alternative milk sources (like nuts) and have no issues.

That's just my opinion. I also believe goat milk has a lot more vitamins, minerals, etc., than cow milk does. I think if you do some research, you'll discover that that's true as well.
