Hi L.-
I live in La Crescenta, which is about a 22 minute drive from you. I know because my sister lives out there. I have a wonderful place that I send my 4 year old to here in La Crescenta. It's called the Jenkins Family Swim School, and they teach pool safety along with their swim classes. Their ratio is 2 students per 1 instructor. They offer 2 week sessions(M-Th) for 30 minutes each. The cost is $200. I highly recommend them as they are aggresive, and will have your child swimming. My son was jumping off the diving board with them at age 2. Their phone number is ###-###-####. Talk to either Mary or Mary Ellen. I hope this helps!

Both of my kids learned how to swim at the Santa Clarita Swim Club - the older one also started when she was 4 and the younger one started at around 2 1/2. The Club has two locations - one on Calgrove Boulevard in Newhall and one on Smyth Drive in Valencia. Both locations have heated indoor pools, which means that kids can take lessons year round. The instructors had all been patient and good. They have small group lessons, semi-private lessons (2 kids), and private lessons. The kids progress through about 10 levels ("Starfish" to "Dolphin") with different skills taught in each. On a regular basis the Club holds safety days for the kids where they teach them to jump in and swim out with their clothes on (so this is familiar if they accidentally fall in), how to rescue a friend who has fallen in, etc. You can check them out at http://www.swim4life.com/.

If you don't find anyone who knows, I suggest going to www.swimclub.com. They have swim instructors all over the place and it is a really reliable source for good instructors.

Good luck!

Hi L.
My daughter took lessons at the Aquatic center. The seasons catalog is coming out soon, look in there. These lessons are not private, but less expensive.I was very happy witht the lessons they offered and my daughter had a blast.

Hi L.,

One of my good pals just had a baby and for some reason, I got signed up for the site even though I'm not a mother (yet). I was just about to unsubscribe when I saw your question. I actually just move down to L.A. from Valencia, where I went to school at CalArts for three years. While there, I always went to swim laps at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center which is an amazing complex of outdoor, heated saltwater pools. The facilities are second to none and while I haven't actually experienced their structured programs (like lessons or classes), all of the life guards have been nothing but friendly and helpful. It would be worth your time to check them out. Here's a link:
