Special Addition on N. Lamar and 38th is FANTASTIC. They do personal fittings to make sure you get the right one. I got all of my nursing bras there. They also have nursing wear too.
Hi mommas. I just had my daughter 3 weeks ago, and sadly already have a problem. I need to find a supportive breast feeding bra. I am around a 40E right now, and was wondering if anyone has found a great bra. Also any good breastfeeding tops as well. Most of the tops I found online are made of heavy/double layer fabric and are not realistic for texas use. Is there a good store/boutique in Austin to find such items?
Thanks,
Liz

Special Addition for the shirts and Motherhood at the mall for a good (and affordable) nusing bra.
hi,
I would recommend Petticoat Fair (near Northcross Mall). I've found their professional fitters to be a huge help and it seems like they have a bra for any size and situation. I buy my regular bras there and also went there for a supportive sleeping bra for pregnancy.
There's also Special Addition (Lamar near 35th). I bought a light support nursing bra there, and they do have a big selection of other nursing bras. They carry lightweight nursing camisoles and tank tops. The brands they carry for shirts seemed to run small--the tank tops I saw wouldn't be long enough for me even in XL, but maybe they have more selection during warmer months? (I think it was November the one time I went there).
Try Special Additions on Lamar by Central Market!
Too bad you aren't in Dallas. The Maddox Shop in the Casa View Shopping Ctr on Garland Road will custom fit one while you wait. They had me bring a hungry baby, put me in a comfortable fitting room and measured me before and after I feed him. I walked out the door with the most comfortable bras I ever owned.
I have two styles of bras, one for day and one for night. My day nursing bra has the underwire and lifts my breasts up...it has the little clip thingy to undo when I nurse. The night time one is just a thin racerback type bra and I just pull a side down when I nurse.
They may have them at Target.
This is my day one:

Well depending on if your in Austin or not. There is this great little boutique in Austin called Special Addition. They are very helpful they measure you and then show you many different types of bras and which ones have the best support they also do alterations for free. Check them out!
Hi! I have breast fed my kiddos (am still feeding my 14 month old). I am pretty big too (38 D, so the regular nursing bras don't work too well. Anyway, what works best for me is a sports bra. It is supportive and you can just kind of put your breast over the top when you go to feed. I tried the nursing tops, and they never worked for me. Instead I layer a tank top under a longer shirt. I am into the attachment parenting thing, so I carried my babies around and let them feed at will day and night.

I am a hard to find size and ended up buying from biggerbras.com after a friend recommended it. They have a wide variety of bras, tops and swimsuits. I used the sizing chart that they have that compares all the brands they carry. Their return policy is awesome! You can exchange or return pretty easily. When I searched 'nursing bras' here's what came up

Better support will come from underwires, of course, but those can be tricky when nursing. I have one w/wires and one w/o -- they're both very comfortable. I would try to find a professional fitter if you decide to try to go with an underwire. They can be sure that the wire itself doesn't actually touch your breast -- it should be on the side of the chest wall, not on the breast tissue. If it's on the breast tissue it can cause plugged ducts, etc. - no fun
As for nursing tops, here's what I did:
I went to the store (Goodwill) and bought some thin low-neck tank tops. I just wear these under my shirts. But I actually do this when it's colder and I don't want my belly to get cold. I'll probably do the same this coming summer, but we'll see. I just recently started doing this at all; I'm used to just having my shirt up on one side.
hth and happy shopping.

As far as tops, I used long tee shirts from American Apparel (there's a shop near UT on the drag or online at americanapparel.net). They are made of a light weight cotton and I could pull them up to breast feed without too much bunching up. The length of the tee was perfect for covering my bigger breasts and tummy.
Warm wishes to you and your children,
A.
I would go to Special Addition -- they have very knowledgeable staff and very baby-friendly -- a nursing room and all kinds of nursing gear. It's across the street from the north Central Market. Good luck!
I would also check out the motherwear.com catalogue -- well-priced nursing tops that don't look like nursing tops, if you know what I mean :).
Special Addition is the BEST store in Austin for nursing bras-you will get an excellent fitting and they have a very wide selection of sizes and bras. It is located on Lamar, just west of the intersection of 38th and Lamar.
Good luck!

Everyone's right - Special Addition is great, as for tops, I just wear looser fitting t-shirts and lift them up from the bottom to nurse and use a blanket to cover my back or belly when exposed and out in public.
E.,
I got all of my maternity and nursing bras at Special Addition in Central Austin. They are located across the street from Central Market on North lamar and the Austin Heart hospital. I think the brand I used was Medela, but don't quote me. They are wonderful support/nursing bras and the ladies there help fit you so that when you leave, you feel great. Good Luck
