So after early on finding out that my daughter was very sensitive to sunscreens I found one that had worked for her for the last 2 years. Now the first sunny day we have this year I put it on her and she has an allergic reaction to it. She broke out in a horrible rash and her face turned bright red. I didnt realize at first that it was from the sunscreen because the rash didnt break out until several hours later. I had to take her to the doctor for a shot because it kept getting worse and worse...and was concerned it would activiate her asthma. He said it was a combination of the sunblock and sun exposure...photodermatitis...and not to use that sunblockk again. Anyway, I think I need to find something that is for very sensitive skin, that is free of all those crazy things that are often found in sunblock. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. I need to find something soon as the warmer weather is back and my daughter has extremely fair skin, blonde hair etc.
I am partnered with a company that has nonposionous everything almost. We have sunscreen as well. It is dermatologist-recommended zinc oxide......we have two one is the one I just told you about and the other is 45+. If you would like more information, please let me know. I would be more than happy to see if this would work.

You need to know which chemical to look out for. Can they tell you that? It comes down to reading labels. I would also invest in some good hats. And make it fun so she doesn't dread it.

This is just a thought...I have a dtr. (5yrs.old)who is sensitive to sunblock amongst a few other things. The other day I put some of "last years" sunblock on her and she complained that it burned a little. It must have gotten better because she didn't mention it again. But I also remember one time when she was younger (around 2) I put an older bottle of sunscreen on her (water babies) and it really bothered her to the point I had to wash it all off. However, I bought a new bottle of water babies and it was fine....So with all that being said, maybe if your sunscreen is from last year, it just needs to be freshened up!? Good Luck!

Sometimes with these things it doesn't show up until several uses. I found out recently I am allergic to morphine. I have taken it in the past with no issues but this time my arm lite up like a christmas tree and I started scratching baddly. I was told never take it again.

Have you tried natural zinc-based creams? Go to Whole Foods and get something natural and organic. It's probably all the crazy chemicals they put in national brands.
I have tried California Baby, Aveeno, Arbonne, and several other natural type products, my daughter is still super sensitive. My dermatologist recommended Blue Lizzard for sensitive skin. I plan to try it soon.
Good luck!

My six year old son has had an allergic reaction to sunblock that landed us in the hospital when he was little. He's also allergic to nickle & bug spray. We have to be very cautious about what comes in contact with his skin.
Last summer I checked out the local health food store & they suggested Aubrey Organics Natural Sun. It's only 2 active ingredients are Padimate O & Titanium Dioxide. He's been using it for more than a year now & it works very well. He's not broken out from it at all.
My daughter had a reaction to sunscreen last year and within 30 minutes was red everywhere i put it. So, I checked the label and it had FIVE active ingredients. I have narrowed it down to THREE she might be allergic to so I avoid those, even in lip products. What she can wear is Hawaiian Tropic Kids 60+SPF and Panama Jack Sport sunblock stick SPF 30. Hawaiian Tropic I got at Meijer and Panama Jack I got at Dollar General. Good luck and yes, use hats and sunglasses too!
L. Etta, mother to an almost 7 year old girl and an 8 year old boy.
I absolutely LOVE California Baby products. I think you can even get them at places like Target now. Otherwise if you have Whole Foods or a natural food store near you you can probably find it there.

I have a red head son who has to wear sunscreen always!!! My friends call my the sunscreen queen because i am so addimit that everyne should use it. anyway I had always used NO-AD babies but was not able to find it last 2 summers
he has very sensitive skin( stickers will break out his skin) we tryed a few but found the aveno works the best for him of course it is more expensive but keeps him rash free and sunburnless!! we also used a sample of arbonne abc for babies and it worked. you might also check meleluca they have all natural products but that might not have anything to do with her sensitivity. Sorry to say all skins are sensitve to different things so you will have to trial and error which i know is upsetting when tgalking about our little ones. good luck and hope you find one soon!!

I highly recommend Arbonne's ABC Sunscreen SPF 30+. This line is botanically based, pure, safe & beneficial -- made for sensitive skin for any age. Remember that the higher the SPF, the higher chance for a chemical burn. Let me know if you would like any more information or a sample.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this! I found a great company, Arbonne, that leaves out a lot of the ingredients that cause allergic reactions. There are no fragrances, animal by-products, or mineral oil in the products. In addition, the formulas are all hypoallergenic and have been tested by physicans (the ABC line has been tested by pediatrians). If you're interested, the link is:

Click on shop online, then the ABC baby care line.
Good luck!!

I have that problem with my daughter and she can only use Water Babies Sunscreen. I use the spray on. We all use it because I too have sensitive skin. You may also not want to use the same bottle from last year. A fresh bottle may do the trick.

I would try to find one that has no chemical sunscreens, just physical sunblocks such as zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide. Check with BareEscentuals (may not be spelled right). They make 100% pure mineral makeup with sunscreen that you might be able to just buff on your daughter's skin, or they might make an actual mineral sunscreen that isn't makeup. Good luck!

Our pediatrician recommended Blue Lizard a few years ago and it's all we use now! I can typically find it at CVS and sometimes Kroger. Before that, I had even tried Neutrogena on my kids and they got beat red instantly. Good luck!!

Do some research online for organic sunscreens. With all the "hubbub" on the pesticides and everything else we put into stuff now a days they are coming out with more organic things everyday. If you don't know much about organic, it's just everything is made of all "natural" meaning plant/food based products. They are wonderful! Goodluck

My nieces have a skin reaction to almost everything, and they use Arbonne. I personally use some arbonne products too, and they seem to work great, but I do not have sensitive skin, so I can't speak from experience. My sister in law says it's worth every penny to not have the girls break out in those nasty rashes that sometimes take 4-5 days to get completely cleared up. Hope you find something that works. you can check out all thier products on Arbonne.com
