It sounds like allergies. I would try if it is nasal some childs Mucinex. I have allergies too. It will make all the snot liquify and then it may seem like a runny nose and cold but it will go away. G. W
Hi Mom's! My one year old son has come home from daycare with a nasty summer cold. We give him medicine and he seems to be find during the day, but at night he gets all plugged up. He wakes up stuffy and coughing and does that for two or three hours in the AM. We have been giving him benadryl at night but that doesn't seem to help clear him up. We have also been alternating Tylenol Cough, Cold, and Runny Nose and Pediacare Cough. Along with that we have elevated one end of his crib and we use Vick's Vapor Rub. Do you know of any other OTC cold aids that are good? We are going on day 5 and it just doesn't seem to be clearing up. Thanks for your help!

The reason it is worse at night is because he is lying down. Try propping up his matress at one end to elevate his head. I remember my babies sleeping in car seats as infants a few nights to help the drainage. Good Luck!!
Rescon GG- you have to ask the pharmacist for it but it is OTC. My DD had a cold a few weeks ago & sorry to say it takes about 7-10 days to clear. Use a humidifier at nap/night time.
My kids Pediatritian told us to give our kids 1/2tsp of Triminic Orange (for sneezing, runny and stuffy noses) during the day and at night, give them 1/2tsp Triminic Grape Nightitme Cold and Cough. I have an 18 month old who has that same Summer cold and this seems to work very well for him.
A., if you read the back og the OTC medicine bottles it says that if symptoms haven't cleared up in 7 days seek a doctor. I am a daycare provider and I require that they see a doctor after being on OTC medicine for 5-7 days.Usually after they see a doctor and get either an antibotic and/or decongestant, they are better. It's not fair to the other children in care if one comes sick and doesn't seek care and they all go to the doctor. Also, have you tried a humidifier? Good luck!
Put a humidifier in his room. It helps keep all of his passageways moist, so that he can work all that crud out easier.
You may want to try a cool mist humidifier in his room at night. The other thing that I would do at night is to give him a night time cold and cough medicine. This usually helps my son sleep soundly when he is sick. Last but not least, if it isn't clearing up any soon, I would take him to the pedi. My son had walking pneumonia when he was 2 and I didn't even think he was really that sick. I thought it was just a little cold. Good luck!
Ask your dr. about Children's Mucinex cough. My kids seem to have gotten sick a lot this summer so we asked our dr. about it and it helped a lot with the congestion and we alos ran the Vicks vaporizor in the room cleaned everyone up in about a couple of days.
You might call your pediatrician because if it is not clearing up after 5 to 7 days it might have turned into a sinus infection.
We liked Little Noses when my daughter was younger. Also, have you tried a vaporizer? That has helped my daughter to breather better at night.
Use a cool mist humidifier as often as you can. Other than that, sounds like you are doing a great job!

That cold is going around right now. I've seen it go through my small group, too. I'd recommend Triaminic Night Time. You'll have to ask the pharmacist for it because they keep it behind the counter. It works great for most of the families I provide care for.
We used the Pediacare and VIck's plug-ins. They are like plug-in air-fresheners, but they have the mentholatum and eucalyptus and stuff in them and it circulates through the air. they work best if you close the door to their room and try to keep all the "stuff" in the bedroom.
Since it's been 5 days, you might want to check with your Peditrician. They can offer some advice and they might want to see him to make sure it's not getting worse. Also, you might want to try a humidifier.
