Suggestions for Books to Read.

You will probably get all sorts of responses. It depends what kinds of books you like -- romance, mystery, science-fiction, biographies, informational, etc. Try "Twilight" by Stephenie Meyer (with additional books in the series "New Moon" and "Eclipse"). It's a big hit with almost every woman I know.

I could go on and on. Instead I'll recommend the website GoodReads.Com to you. You can add friends and get all kinds of information on any book out there.

I just discovered a new author with a wonderful series - Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. "One for the Money", "Two for the Dough" etc on up to 13 now. They are funny, light reading.

I have a few sugestions.

The Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon first book is called Outlander

The Artemis Fowl Series by Eoin Colfer these are actually juvenile books but I am 32 and loving them

The Whiteoak series don't remember the author

Anything by Victoria Holt

"A Thomas Jefferson Education" by Oliver Van DeMille, an excellent book! Also a fun one to read with your kids is "Little Britches" by Ralph Moody. "The Hiding Place" by Corrie Tenboom, a fabulous non-fiction novel about a woman in Europe during WWII, who ended up in a concentration camp. Happy reading!

Have you read the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer? If you haven't i highly recommend them. There are 3 books out now and the 4 is going to be done this fall. They are a really big hit and i know there is also a movie being made. I was so addicted to the first book that after i was done i went and bought the 2nd and 3rd at the same time because i just had to finish them. The series is a action/romance. It's about a girl who falls in love with a Vampire. I know it sounds cheesy but believe me it is so far from it. Just get the first book and i promise you will be hooked.

Andrea suggested what I was going to suggest - the Twilight series. They are actually "teen" books, but they are so great. I read the first book (in a few days) and the day I finished it, I bought the second one and finished it in a few days. I'm going to buy book three tonight and the fourth comes out in August (I think). Wonderful books!

I don't know exactly how far this advice group extends, but here is an idea for you. I live in Provo, UT and our public library has an online service where they will recommend books specifically tailored for you, based on books that you have enjoyed in the past. I think there are also some other online sites (like WhichBook.net) that work for the general public too. Seems like you might have the best luck finding something you'll enjoy through one of these services since everyone's tastes are so different! Hope you find something great.

Have you tried the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer, they are absolutely amazing and fun reads. Also, check out www.goodreads.com, it is a great website you can sign up with your friends where you rate the books you have read and can see what others are reading. Fun website.
Also, any book by Jennifer Weiner, Jodi Picoult, Nicolas Sparks, John Grisham, the Left Behind Series and the Dr. Scarpetta series by Patricia Cornwell (just make sure you start with the first one, there are a lot) and my all time favorite, The Bridges of Madison County.

I absolutely LOVE Jodi Picoult and have read almost all of her books - they deal with emotional subjects, but they are great reading and teach you to look at all sides of controversial subjects. Plus, you get really into the characters and the stories and can't put the books down! :)

I also enjoy Christopher Pike (he's writing novels for adults now, although he's most famous for teen thrillers), Robin Cook, and C.J. Box.

I try to read 2-6 books every month and am excited to see what others have to suggest! :)

HI Melissa. What kinds of books- fiction or non fiction? Our book group has been reading memoirs and I am tired of them, but one of my favorite books I bought for my teenage daughter is called "The Book Thief" about WWII. Carolyn Myss's books are great if you are into non fiction. I am reading "A New Earth" with lots of people around the world and I like it.

I recently finished "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett and really loved it. It's got everything - romance, war, intrigue, religion - plus I love the whole medieval setting. I also really like anything by Sophie Kinsella - very light, funny, very English, romantic - in the same vein as Bridget Jones' Diary. Also one of my all-time favorites is "Memoirs of a Geisha" by Arthur Golding - absolutely fabulous! I felt like I had learned so much about the Japanese culture after reading it. Happy reading!

have you ever read Benjamin Spock's books?
His suggestions are very different from a common trend,
and I am not in agreement with him in many cases at all, yet he really stirs up your mind, to look at the things: parenting and childhood, differently.
Please, bu no means do not take his advices as must-follow, but it's a good place to go if you want to see a different point of view...

if you like action/adventure type books, I just finished the first two in Matthew Rielly's newest series. They were great! The 7 Deadly Wonders and The 6 Sacred Stones. Also, Janet Evanovich has a great "Plum" series of novels - those follow the misadventures of a woman that loses her job as a lingerie buyer and becomes a bail bondsman...those are pretty funny. I recommended any book by Joyce Meyer: "Battlefield of The Mind", "Look Great, Feel Great", and MANY others. She also recently came out with a novel called "The Penny". Lisa Bevere also has some awesome books, "Fight Like a Girl", "Kiss the Girls and Made them cry".

One of my faves is The Red Tent by Anita Diamante. Also Water for Elephants was wonderful too.

If you connected with The Secret, you might enjoy something like A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. Check out Oprah's site for more info -- the author is doing weekly discussions streamed online with her. They take emails and phone calls from viewers to discuss his ideas... several of my friends are doing it -- life changing experience if you are interested in his message. Good luck!

I really love Nicholas Sparks and John Grisham.

I just finished reading "The Memory Keeper's Daughter". I can't remember the author. Sorry. Very good, though. Any book by David Baldacci, also. He is a political, thriller type writer. Keeps you on the edge of your seat. John Grisham is awesome, also. I love Danielle Steele for when I'm in the mushy romance mood. Also, Mitch Albom. Have fun!!!

If you like cookbooks (as I do), I have loved "Heat" (an associate of Mario Batali's, a sort of cooking/food travel journal that is fascinating), and "Toast" by Nigel Slater (my favorite chef, a British chef), which is his early cooking adventures/memoir, and "The Man Who Ate Everything" by Jeffrey Steingarten (each chapter is different, about his scientific exploration into different foods and cooking techniques). Each of those books deals with food, international travel, cooking.

Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse!!!! All by Stephanie Meyer. They are a great escape and reminds you of being young and in love! And there is a fourth book coming out in Aug. and a highly anticipated movie in Dec. I have never been a big reader and didn't think I would be into these books, but my mother in law gave them to me and I couldn't put them down!!!

lord of the rings if you love poetic literature

the burning time .. by robin morgan...an awsome historical non-fiction about the inquisition that took place in the 1300's in ireland/england.our book club read it and my husband and anyone i know i tell to read..thanks for the question, im glad to read other peoples sugestions J.

The Time Travelers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger is one of my favorites. I also like My Sisters Keeper by Jodi Picoult. I have heard great reviews about Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers also but I have not read it.

Hi, I just recently read "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert. I was a bit hesitant at first as I thought it sounded boring, but I found it anything but boring. It was AWESOME! I found her writing style very witty, fun, and easy to read. It was hard to put down; I would highly recommend it!

The Passion Test by Janet (can't remember last name and loaned out the book)

I'm also an avid reader of Readers Digest (always a classic), Shape (trying to keep motivated to stay in shape) and Ode Magazine (filled with good news from around the globe). Being a WAHM, I don't get a lot of reading time and magazines are great to read a couple articles and put it down for several days until I can return to it.

I love the Harry Potter series, and Jane Austen is great! Especialy Pride and Prejudice. I also really enjoyed "Tuesdays with Morrie" by Mitch Albom. If you like Romance, Nora Roberts is a great choice. She also has several thriller books. They are a bit scary for my taste because I am a wimp, but they are really good. John Steinbeck novels are usually good reads, too. And "I capture the Castle" by Dodie Smith is good. I've heard good things about Pillars of the Earth and that will probably be my next conquest when I'm done with what I'm reading now. Happy Reading!

I love to read and really like books that take me completely out of my life - futuristic, vampires, mystery. If you like Nora Roberts, but are looking for a bit "more" check out her other series written under the name J.D. Robb. It's a great series set in 2058 + about a female homicide detective, her cases and her life. I have read every one of them (too many to count) and gotten several other people hooked on them as well. The "Shopaholic" series is good as well - if a little slow to start. Oh, and the Dirk Pitt books by Clive Cussler are great adventure stories!

If you like cookbooks then you may like this read.

I also absolutely love to read. My favorite author is Karen Marie Moning. If you like romance novels she has an awesome highlander series. She also has another amazing series out now. Her first 2 books in it are Darkfever, and Bloodfever with Faefever coming this fall. They are not quite so much romance, and are a little bit darker books with vampires and other cool fictional creatures, which I like. Just depends on your taste. I've never been able to put down one of her books! Happy Reading! :D

You should check out goodreads.com it is other people who rate and review all sorts of books. You can create a network and see what your friends and family are reading. I have enjoyed it.

I to would suggest th "Twilight" series, by Stephanie Meyer. They will surprise you. I am normally a mystery reader. I would normally find nothing interesting about vampires. My cousin, who is addicted to them, wanted me to read them so bad that she bought me all three books so that I would feel bad if I didn't read them.

I would also suggest the "Til the boys come home" series, by Jerry Borrowman. I am just starting the 4th and final book in that one. They take place during WWI and WWII. They are about some families from Idaho, Utah, and England and how the wars affect them. The families didn't really exist, but the things around them did. The author did a lot of research to get all his historical stuff accurate.

I LOVE John Irving,and I have read almost all of his books--"A Prayer for Owen Meany" is my favorite, but I loved all of them. They all start out sort of slow, but stick with them--they're worth it!

I just read The Lost Boys from Sudan - a true story of young Sudanese boys (thousands of boys) who were forced from their villages due to war in the 1990s. It is written by three of the boys - who are now men living in the U.S. It is a great story.

I am currently reading Raising Cain: Protecting the Emotional Lives of Boys. I have a little boy and I am an elementary teacher. I am finding the book facinating in both respects...and learning a lot!
