Suggestions for a Good Mom Phone

I love my samsung phone. It flips two different directions (for texting). Very user friendly. It is through Verizon.

I would say to get another phone just like the one you had and not let your kiddos touch it :-)

I have 7 kids here ranging 1 to 10 and never EVER let them play with my phone. It's not a toy. That settles it.

Sorry, not trying to be harsh at all but I don't think there are any cell phones that can withstand kid handling.

My friend asked me once how long her kids were going to keep messing up the carpet with all of their food droppings. I told her "I guess as long as you let them run around with food." She was actually considering paying to have hardwood installed rather than just teaching her kids to sit down. I'm sure you get the point.

I love my Iphone. My kids mess with it all of the time and I have dropped it repeatedly. The important thing, I think, is to have a good case that will absorb the shock of drops and keep it away from water. I lost my Razor after one of the kids sprayed me with a hose (darling child!)and I am sure most phones will not withstand that. L.

I haven't found a phone yet that can withstand my 1 y/o and 4 y/o DD's or my husband for that matter. My DD's know the cell phones are not toys, but accidents happen. My husband is a firefighter and has a crazy schedule. Talking cell phone to cell phone is free and I won't deprive my daughters from talking to their dad on the nights he is not home, just because I am worried about my cell phone. We always get the insurance and it has saved us a time or two. I have had a razor for 2 years now. I have had it replaced twice. I am also in the market for a new phone. I have heard people rave about their iphones. I don't doubt that they have many great functions. They are too expensive for my budget and the iphone is not insurable thru my carrier. So, I would definetly ask if a phone is insurable before I purchased it.

The only recommendation is to pay the little extra each month to insure the phone. Havent found one yet that can take kids...or construction sites (my husband) for that matter!

I love my LG phone. I'm not sure what model but it opens up and has a QWERTY keyboard. I lock the keypad so it locks after 7 seconds. I've dropped it a zillion times and it just keeps on going. If you don't already have a provider, call Scott Jackson (asst. mgr) at Verizon Pleasant Hill store and tell him K. referred you. My husband works for Verizon and has suggested the G'Zone. It is suppose to be almost indestructable. It still has a camera and some pretty cool other features on it.

It is said to even withstand submersion in water. :)

I have a sprint 'crazor' and have dropped it more times than I care to admit! It also folds in on itself, so there might be a chance that your kids may find it difficult to open,(maybe ;-) ) I hope you find my messsage helpful.

That's funny.... I have always used the "free" phone from my provider. With three kids, my phone gets dropped on occasion as well as my kids taking it for the day to the amuzement park when going with other families and so many other places. Not once have I gotten the insurance on the phone and I've only replaced my phone after the two years because it was "out of date".

Not wanting to sound harsh, but I think an expensive, electronic device is something that the children need to learn to respect as just that. You should treat it like you would an ashtray with a hot cigarette in it and teach them it is not to be touched. This prevents an embarassing moment at someone elses house where your kids may get a hold of someone elses phone. They should be taught that it is not a toy.

Whatever you do....do NOT get the blackberry. I hate it! I have the worst static and reception. I even had my husband argue with the phone company to trade ours out for a different one thinking it was just that phone...and this one is no different. Talking to people I am finding other people hate it too. It is just good for texting.

My husband's iPhone is an amazing thing. I usually just ignore his high-tech stuff but this one is invaluable. I actually borrow it when I'm going out with my son because 1) my son (2 years old) can navigate it with his fingers - look through pictures, play music, look at diggers on the internet, etc and 2) I get lost very easily, and having google maps right there is amazing. It's a really great device and very user-friendly for a mom. I can use it with one hand!!

I disagree with other moms that you shouldn't let your kid touch your phone - perhaps that is true with phones that break easily but the iPhone is durable and easy to use even for little fingers. Having trouble making the phone work is one of the reasons kids get frustrated and end up breaking them. Plus, I think it's important to teach children as soon as possible how to dial a phone in case they need to get help. They should respect the device but that means they should be taught how to use it, rather than barred from looking at it.

I too had a Ravr and had to replace it earlier this month. I got and then returned a Sony Erikson Walkman. It was very flimsy and very sensitive. I was accidentally on internet all the time. So I returned it for the LG Shine. I love, love, love it. Really easy to use and it feels really sturdy. I am a stay home mom with a 2, 4, and 8 year olds. I loved my Razr but I love my LG more. It's a slider and not so easy for my kids to accidentally "hang up" on some one. Hope this helps. Have a good day.

Anything Nokia makes. I have thrown my phone (accidentally of course) across the park and had it survive. Plus I have an 8, 5 and almost 3 year old who have done all sorts of things to it over the years.

I had a razor too and it was horrible so far as the kids went. I have had a Nextel i560 for over a year now. It still looks brand new after repeated droppings, toilet swims, and various other maladies. It is military rated. Anyhow GREAT phone however Sprint is kinda a pain in the butt to deal with

Yes! I went through more phones than I can count! I now have an LG flip phone with (and this is the key) a rigig leather case. I've had this one for more than a year and it has been abused and does great. Need more info? It's cingular, and I dont see any other info on it, but I will call cingular (att or whatever) to get more info if you need it.

I don't really like my cell phone, however it has a lock feature on it that is great for the kids! I don't have to worry about them calling Tokyo and don't have to panic when I see one of them pushing buttons on it. It's a Sony Ericsson Cingular walkman phone. I don't use half the features that come with it either. Look for the lock though! Pretty cool! :)

Nextel is what we have
My Husband had one for work and he's in construction very durable and reliable and we have 4 children and it works just fine

Hi J.,

I just got a Motorola V365 because one reviewer said he was a construction worker who had dropped his many times on site and it survived with nary a scratch. That sold me, since I drop my phone all the time! It's definitely heavier and thicker than a lot of phones and not as "stylish" perhaps, but so far I am pleased with it.

I'd suggest a Nokia. They're very durable. I had one in the Army, that thing was dropped, stepped on, filled with sand, rained on, just about everything a phone could go through. Not to mention my own child. Also, most cell providers have insurance for a low monthly rate so you can get a replacement if something terrible does happen to it.

The rule is .... THE PHONE IS NOT A TOY... DONOT PLAY WITH IT. THAT IS A NO NO.
