I really want to get a dual screen dvd player for our next road trip. It will be longest we have done with the girls. I have been looking everwhere, reading lots of review and can't decide on one. I want one that is resonable priced, with good sound (they are too young to use headphine) and will not die on us half way through our trip. I know I will get some good suggestions for all the moms here. So help me out?

We got one from Target. Had it for about 3 years now and it still works fine. The dual screens attach the the back of the headrests and the playing station part we have sitting on the middle console so I can reach it from the passenger seat.
Just be sure to unplug it after you get out of the car each time or it can run the car battery down. Even if it's turned off. Still unplug it.
They really make long trips more bearable. Get movies that you know they like and maybe try some new ones. VeggieTales seem to captivate young people for whatever reason.
Good luck!

There is a great book called "Eat Fat, Lose Fat" by Mary Enig and Sally Fallon that tells how to be healthy, be your ideal weight, and have lots of energy. It also tells how to use nutrition to avoid and heal from chronic disease. The advice can keep you healthy all your life, if you follow it.

Hello, we got one at target that has two seperate screens with two power cords, which lets them watch two different movies. they hook on behind your headrest. they will skip when going over big bumps, not so noticeable on long trips, but in the city you notice, but the kids don't seem to mind. It was around $170.00 I believe. I would just hang on to the receipt and the box incase you are not happy, so you can return it. Godd luck and have a great trip. L.

About 2 years ago, my husband's parent's bought our kids one for Christmas. It works like a charm. You will be amazed at the difference that it makes in a long trip...

It's an Insignia brand, 7 inch dual screen DVD player. I hadn't heard of Insignia before, but they bought it at Best Buy and got the service plan (Which I think is a waste of money, but I didn't pay for it) and we have only had one small problem. One of the screens would go off for no reason. So I took it to BB and they said they would have to send the whole thing back to the manufacturer...then the Geek (it was Geek Squad :) looked at the cable and turns out one of the little wires was bent. He took a pair of needle nose pliers and straightened it out and worked perfectly. And I think we may have caused that problem so it wasn't the player's fault.

Two things I will say on the however side. This player does not have a memory of where it left off. So if you turn off the engine and your outlets don't continue to get power, (my van does) then you have to remember where you left off or start over. Secondly, if your vehicle does continue to send power to the outlets when the engine is off, DO NOT forget to turn the whole system off. I killed my car battery by leaving it on which is a total pain in the neck and expensive to boot. I generally just pull the plug when we get out at the end of the trip to avoid any power loss, but leave it going for short stops such as the gas station or bathroom breaks.

Overall, for your sanity and safety I would recommend it for a long trip.

WE just recently purchased a dual screen DVD player for our two children as well. We decided on the Disnay brand. It has worked out for us just fine. Our daugter is 3 1/2 and likes to use the headphones. However, our son is 2 and only wants to break them, so he listens without the headphones.

We already had a single screen DVD player and it had a rechargeale battery pack. So, when we would turn off the car it would have a memory of where it left off. This is the only complaint I might have about this one. However, I am not sure if any of te dual screen players have this feature or not. It would be something that I would definitely look into. If you stop to get gas or go to the restroom, you don't want to have to restart and scan through to figure out where the kids left off...

Hope this helps.

We bought a polaroid dual screen dvd player for our car about 4 years ago and it is still going. We paid @ $100 for it (they actually still sell this one), but it was a great buy. My kids used it all the time. We are always on the go and it keeps them busy.

I don't have a brand recommendation, but will pass on something my daughters have learned. They make many road trips and their DVD players kept "dying" after a couple of hours on the road. They learned that they were over heating being up against the head rests and with the vents in the car going. No matter what brand, try to find a way to mount them so they get plenty of ventalation and you should be fine. Have fun.
