Stress Hives (Urticaria)?

Does anyone else get these?

This last weekend, after our marriage celebration (which was beautiful and amazing), we arrived home on Sunday to my old kitty seizing on the floor. I took him to the vet immediately, only to find out that he was too far gone and had to be put to sleep. I had him for 11 years and am heartbroken.

I broke out in hives on my chest and shoulders....and found out about stress hives.

Do any other mamas here get them? How do you manage? They're finally starting to fade, but they're still there. According to what I've read, the only way to completely get rid of them is to purge all stress. This is tough, as I'm still mourning the loss of my fur friend. I cry at the most inopportune times.

Advice?

So What Happened?

I've tried Claritin with no luck for the last few days. :-(

A co-worker would get them when facing q&a during public speaking. I might get them if I'm otherwise overtired and bickering or more with my hubs. Sorry for your loss, some benadryl, a cool shower, a glass of wine and a good night's sleep usually sets me right.

Good luck to you and yours,
F. B.

My mom gets these all the time. She takes Benadryl when she can't stand the itching anymore.

Claritin is great for allergies, but it doesn't work right away. At least not for me. I have to take it for at least a week, everyday, for it to work, but then it does wonders.

I am sorry for your kitty loss. I just reached the 1 year mark for my kitty's passing, and it hit me hard. But, remember he is in happy kitty heaven now!

You can treat them like any other hives - hydrocortisone cream + antihistamines like claritin, benadryl, etc.

Sorry for your loss :(

My husband had them due to stress, as well. His dr. told him to take Benadryl continuously for one week. That finally got rid of them. Sorry about your fur friend, it's so hard to say goodbye to our furry babies.

A friend's daughter breaks out in hives when she goes from cold to hot or vice versa. She also starts to break out during gym class and soccer (I assume once she starts to heat up.)

If I am not mistaken she can control it by taking Zyrtec daily but her mom isn't big into medicine and chooses not to give it daily....

I'm sorry for your loss. Maybe try Zyrtec until this stress passes.

I am with the others and antihistamine. When they are bad I would say benadryl and when they let up maybe something not so strong. (That wont put you to sleep). I am sorry for your loss!!!!!!

My Mom got them when she was a kid, as did I, on of my kids and one of my grandkids. The only thing that worked was Benedryl Liquid. It knocks us out and as soon as the doseage time was up we would start itching again. So it was a choice of itch or sleep, I always chose sleep.

Sorry about your fur baby.

I got them about 3 weeks before our wedding.
I saw my doc and he prescribed something--sorry, can't remember what it was. It did the trick.
Call your doctor!

I had hives before my wedding (not my hubby's fault, my MoH was making me insane). Anyway, I tried everything and then took an antidepressant for two days (it has an alternate hive healing power). They caused me to pass out for like two days and after one day, the hives were almost gone an then gone in three days. Only took two day's worth! Even called the pharmacist to ask if they gave me the wrong pills - she said nope, they also cure hives.

I forget what they are called!! But any allergist would know.

Feel better. Sorry about your cat.

I used to get them all the time when my job was MEGA stressful.. and they can take time to run their course. I read that water helps the body to eliminate the histamines... and I did find that helpful... definitely drink up..
also, for the time, stay away from overly hot baths/showers and wear light clothing to bed.. you may have noticed that it's in the middle of the night you get itching spells.. that is because the body warms up under the covers and the hives LOVE heat...
