Strange Spot on Both Children

Both of my children have a strange mark on them, I noticed my sons arm on Saturday what looked like a mosquito bite then on my daughter while taking a bath she had a similar spot on her back. Today they look scabby and round. Do spider bites get like this or is it something else. I took pictures of it but this website is not letting me post them. They just look strange.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well I have looked on the internet and showed it to a couple of my friends and we have conculded that they are spider bites that the kids are scratching. It looks nothing like chicken pox or ring worm as to what the Mayo Clinc site and Webmd has pictures of so I think I will just keep an eye on them and hope it does not get worse. Go thing is that they don't have a fever or loss of appetite.

My son has eczema, which is very dry skin. It starts out the same way. It feels very crusty and sorta like sandpaper. We normally use oatmeal baths, humidifiers and lots of lotion.

Sounds to me like ringworm. My entire house went through a bout of this for about four months. Go to google and check out pictures of it and see if it resembles it. You don't really need to go to the doctor (which I'm NOT saying don't go) just that the over the counter anti-fungal is just as strong as the RX one. My oldest daughter got one, I kept anti-fungal on it, and KEPT IT COVERED. That was the only one she got. The little one got it and brought it home from playing with a cat at a friends house. Good luck, and wash your hands after you touch the spots.

If you have household pets, it could be a flea bite. My 7 yr. old son is allergic to them and he gets bite all the time. They look like raised red bumps that are itchy. My son scratches them until they bleed.

When I'm not sure if my children have ringworm, I use an anti-fungal cream (over-the-counter) and treat it myself. If it's not ringworm, no harm done (the cream is harmless), and if it is, it always goes away like this. My kids were in daycare and got ringworm a few times... Good luck with this! If it's scabby, it sounds like scratched spider or flea bites, and I wouldn't worry...

is it like a circle. maybe clear in the middle? it could be ring worm.

it is very contagious!! you could look on web md or some other medical sites, or just google it. there should be some pictures that you could compare it too.

sorry if someone already answered this, it isn't showing any other posts.

The blistering (scabby) sounds like it may be chicken pox. If your kids have had the vaccine, they carry an active agent. Or can still get a mild case. If they get more or change in shape, I would get it looked at. Hope all is okay.

Sounds like it could be ringworm ( a fungal infection, not actually a worm). Nothing major to be concerned about but they are pretty easily spread from one child to another, even in older children (I had a friend who had one when she was 15 and her brother who was 13 also got it) It usually starts small and round and will grow outward if not treated. They are treated with a prescription antifungal cream and I'm pretty sure you're supposed to keep it covered to prevent spreading. They're also scaly in appearance, like they're dried out. Hope this helps.

Do your children attend Day Care? Since you said it was scabby and round, you may want to have them checked for ring worm. I would only do this however if they are aroun other chilren.

Sounds like ring worm. My brother and I wrestled in high school and he got it. It looks like a ring and is scabby. It is very contagious and they would of had to get it from someone so you might check you and your husband or talk to anyone else that they have been around. I would go to the doc or I think you can get a over the counter med that works just as good.

Could just be a spider bite, too.

It might not be, but check what is called MRSA. It is a staph infection and a friend of mine daughter had this. It started out looking like a spider bite or a pimple. It then got bigger and looked like a boil. If it should happen to be MRSA, it is contagious and that might be why they both have it. Check out www.mayoclinic.com/health/mrsa/DS00735. It might not be this, but it is worth checking out.
