Strange Job Offer Scenario (Need Advice!)

So, I have been in this very long hiring process since the first week of October. I've had one phone interview and two face-to-face interviews during this drawn out process. The last phone call I received was on November 30th, saying they thought I was a great fit (yada-yada) and wanted to offer me the job (as he fished for my current salary), then said they also wanted me to feel as if this was a great fit for me as well. Anyway, the conversation ended with them telling me that they would be putting together a compensation package and would get back to me shortly. SHORTLY?! It's been 2 weeks, going on 3!! This is a good position with a mid-sized corporate company, so I'm a little baffled by the lengthy process, but whatever, it is what it is (and I want the job!)... My question is...should I call them? If I did, what should I say? Considering the next phone call from them is supposed to be the monetary offer. I feel I should be more patient (it did take them a month to call me back for my last interview, so maybe this is normal for them?), but it's driving me nuts! What to do??

What can I do next?

I would call and say that you have not yet received thier compensation package and if it will be sent via email or US postal. It is possible that it got lost in the mail or was not sent yet. Either way it shows you are still interested but not a pain in the butt.

I would not say you have another job offer, they will move on to the next person.

I would call them back and simply make a polite inquiry along the lines of, "Hi, I was just trying to check on the current status of my application?" It is possible a file was misplaced, a receptionist forgot to call you, or possibly the position was even filled and they were rude enough not to inform you. Either way, I wouldn't sit in limbo.

Yes, call them and say that you're interested in the job and you haven't heard from them. I suggest that just saying the first sentence will get the conversation started. They may have mailed it and it's gotten lost.

I'd call them. The only thing that it will do is show them that you really want the job. Just say something like " I just wanted to check in to see if you had made a decision on the position of xxx."

Hope you get the job!! Good luck~

I'd follow-up just to let them know you are still interested. I work for a very large company, and I know that for us what seems like an easy process has so much beuraucracy involved that it takes months to get anyone hired. Then we have hiring freezes where we know the position will be filled and by whom but have to wait for a period of time (such a the 1st of the year) to actually extend the offer, etc. So, there may be a legitimate reason for the delay, but they also owe you the courtesy of an update.

I interviewed for a job once whereby the employer said they'd get back to me.. I waited for about two weeks and then called the hiring manager. She said, Oh we wondered why you never came into work? I said, no one called me with a job offer..... she was shocked.. Turns out, I did get the job and it was a good thing that I followed up... Use your gut instinct.. if you think you should call, then make that call.. It couldn't hurt and does show interest..

Good luck

All part of the hiring circus of corporations, and is perfectly normal.

Call them and politely inquire about the compensation package, and ask if it was sent out, as you have not received it to look it over. It shows you are interested, without being pushy.

If things got lost in the shuffle, this will let them know and get the information to you.

Never use "I have another job offer" as they will check you off the list.

Hang in there Mama!

SINCE THIS IS A HOLIDAY SEASON...they might be doing a lot of other stuff and just truly busy.

I say if you CAN wait then wait until the week after Christmas. They could be bogged down with figuring out Christmas bonuses, they could be planning a huge company wide Christmas party, they could be doing charity work for Toys For Tots, no telling what they are doing right now.

If this was August I would say call them on Tuesday. That way if they are planning on calling you next week they have Monday to do that.

BUT since this is a huge holiday season I would be a bit more patient. IF you CAN give it a bit more time that is. IF you are truly ready to move on and just don't want to be in limbo anymore than take that chance that they'll just say we're sorry, we're not going to continue with you at this time or they could say they were just finished getting the offer drawn up and would you like to go over it.

I would call and follow up but i would not sign or agree to anything until i had the compensation package in hand. Once you say yes, they have more power to control the $$$ and you may not get what you expect.

I had an offer to so a temp job and all they would tell me is compensation was between $10-$25 an hour. I said, so what is it? If I say yes I expect the $25+ per hour and they did not want to negotiate pay until I agreed to the job. I politely said no thank you.

They were well aware that i also run our company from home and substitute teach. We are believers in multiple income streams. Since I couldn't get a straight answer, I lost confidence in the company. How woould they treat me if I were an employee?

Of course, follow up to see where the offer stands so you can move on it you need to.

Just tell them you have another job offer and you need to know if they've made a decision. I've never heard of a job offer taking so much time. How long do they expect people to wait around?
