Wash twice with hot water and vinegar. Should help. Good luck!
So we've been sharing the joys of stomach flu in our household this past week and am wondering - what do you mamas do to clean/sanitize yucked-out clothes that you can't bleach b/c of the fabric's color.
Wash twice with hot water and vinegar. Should help. Good luck!
I second the washing things twince use hot water if the fabric can hang with it & add baking soda it makes the laundry soap work soooo much better.
I throw in some extra soap and baking soda...I dont know why with the baking soda..my mom used to do it...I feel ya mama..We have had it here since Monday:(
After the FLU of 2010 that rolled through our house I have gotten good at planning for it once i see it coming. Once my oldest started throwing up Monday..my couch, floors and all the beds were covered in trash bags..we looked like a plastic waste land...I also save bigger sized boxes out in the garage just for this purpose..I line them with trash bags too...a few layers at that. This way when they start puking, All I have to clean up is the trash bag and the things that they are wearing(if they were hit in the line of duty). I keep the end of the bed covered in our room too..just in case they decide they need to come share the junk in our room...
I over prepare for this stuff...I have to though once I know it is here...There is nothing I hate more then waking up to a tossed up mess all over the place...this saves me the sanity at three in the morning...
Hope you guys can get it to leave your house fast! My oldest went back to school today..I am on the road to better and my little two woke up with it(but it seems to be on a smaller scale then what my oldest had it) this morning...I had them at the foot of our bed until five this morning....ugh..this soon shall pass:)
Color safe bleach or a good spot remover for stains. I always put such things through a brief hand washing process before putting into the machine, because there are usually little 'chunks' of stuff in the yuck. The ideas others have given for vinegar and/or baking soda sound great for disinfecting purposes. Hot water if the fabric can stand it. If not, warm or cold water with a disinfecting agency should do quite well.
I just run them thru the washer twice with regular laundry soap and dry them in the dryer.
Vinegar...it kills germs too. You can safely put it in with your colors and it will not smell when the wash is all finished.
Also, if you can dry anything on high heat, like sheets and towels...the high heat for over 20 minutes also kills just about everything...including dist mites.
Regular stain remover, detergent and preferably hot water, works just fine. Dryer heat is good for killing any virus as well. Most viruses are pretty fragile outside the human/animal host and can't withstand regular washing and drying. If still having a problem with odor, use vinegar in the wash as well. Hope you all feel well soon.
