Steam Mop Advice

I am looking at getting a steam mop to clean my wood floors. I've seen some on infomercials but read mixed reviews on them. Never know if you can trust those reviews so I thought I'd ask moms that I know I can trust more than those. If anyone has had success (or a bad experience with one) I would appreciate if you could let me know. Our house is 90% wood floors and I'm wanting something that I know will sanitize better than a mop and bucket. Thanks!!!

So What Happened?

Thank you all so much for your help! I knew I could trust advice from other moms!!! I just got the Shark and raced home to use it. It took a little while to warm up (they say that it can the first time) but once I got it going it worked really well. My wood floors look awesome and I actually enjoyed cleaning for once! I had also just bought the Bissell V (Versus) and would highly recommend that if anyone is looking for a vacumn for hard wood floors. We get a lot of dust bunnies in the winter and it sucked them up from 6 inches away. I feel much better that my floors are cleaner for my daughter to be cruising around on!!! Thanks again for all your help!

Thanks M. for asking this great question. I've seen the infomercial too, and have wanted one! We saw the Shark one tonight at Macy's on sale for $80. We were tempted but wanted to see what everyone else said first. Glad to hear it works on laminate floors and doesn't leave streaks! I'm sold.

Thanks again for asking the question. Let us know if you get one and if you love it, too!

I have the Shark also, I got it from Bed Bath & Beyond. I love it! Just make sure to sweep the floors before you mop. Happy cleaning!

I had the same issue a few months ago. I ended up getting the Shark Steam Mop (it is purple and around $80). I love it! We have about 1,000 square feet of laminate floors and I was sick of getting down on my hands and knees. We have two small children so I was doing it almost daily with the baby crawling around. I wish I would have bought the steamer sooner. I am hoping that it is sanitizing as well as it says since you just use water. It gets really hot and drys very quickly. I bought it at Kohls with a 30% off coupon so I got it for less then $60. I wish I would have bought it sooner. I can get the floors done in record time now with NO streaks!!!

I bought a Shark Steam Mop about 6 months ago (also at Kohl's on sale plus a coupon), and I love it!!! It works great, has plenty of steam capacity and its no big deal to refill if needed. My floors have never looked so good, and I feel better knowing my DD and the kids I watch aren't crawling though chemicals and germs! I also bought extra pads which is a good idea. I wish the cord was a little longer, but I just plug mine into an extension cord. I read all the reviews before purchasing mine too trying to figure out what brand was best and I was a little hesitant but it has been great!

A friend of mine bought the H2O mop, loves it, but says the company has terrible customer service (if you buy from the infomercial)

There are some cheaper brands I have seen too. My best advice is to buy from a stores so if you have any problems...

I have on that I use on my wood floors but I don't use it all of the time. I switch out with a murphy's oil soap mopping every couple of moppings. The only thing that I have come across is that sometimes the floor is really wet so I dry it with a towel and I always lift the registers and dry around them. It does get the floor cleaner than just the mop.

I bought the shark steam mop from bed bath and beyond just the other day. My wood floors in my kitchen were so bad. I have two big dogs and 2 young kids under 3. With the weather being so sloppy the foors were bad! My husdand steamed half the floor and we could see the difference right away. It works well. It also dried within 5 min. I also agree to buy extra pads and use a few during the wash. I now dont mind cleaning the floors.

I have the Shark steam mop and have only used it three or four times. I think it works well on my wood floors. I am disappointed about my porcelain tile floor though. It has "recessed" areas in each tile peace and I was hoping it would pull the dirt out of the recessed areas, but it doesn't.

If I have a concern about the mop itself, it would be that the full length of the handle from your hand to the floor seems a bit "flimsy" and I wonder how long it will hold up.

If you have a lot of floor space, I would use two of the "mop heads" because they get dirty very quickly.

hi, I just bought the bissel Steam mop from Kohls. It was 98$ and then another 20% off. I have used it three times so far and I love it! It cleans my wood floors so well they are slippery:) My SIster in law has the H20 mop and she loves it too! I borrowed hers before I went out and bought one and it did a great job, i just liked the reviews the bissel got over the h20. I agree with buying it from a store so in case anything goes wrong you can return it. But I think Kohls has all three models mentioned.

Also it cleans the floors in record time! I thought the cord on the bissel was pretty long too so you could do a large portion of the floor before having to unplug!

Good luck! No matter what they will all save you a ton of time and your back will feel a lot better:)
