Hi there! I feel so alone everytime I see another great playgroup start up in North Dallas. I know there are mothers out there like me who want to find a playgroup for our babies on this side of the metroplex. I would consider driving to say, Arlington, but gas is so high and being a stay at home mom, I do not have the finances to do that every week. Can anyone offer a suggestion?
I just joined the Cedar Hill Duncanville early childhood PTA. It seems like a wonderful group with weekly activities for the kids and also for adults. Thanks for the suggestion!
Check out the Cedar Hill/Duncanville Early Childhood PTA - www.chdecpta.org. They offer monthly meetings, playgroups, children's and adult activities. I've heard it's a great group.
Good luck!
E., my name is J. and I have a 14 month old. I am stay at home also and we live in Cedar Hill. I put my little man in The Little Gym here in Cedar Hill starting at 4 months. He absolutely LOVES it and so to the vast majority of the other babies. Your little one would be in the bugs class. Its really fun way to meet other moms too. Also, we joined the cedar hill duncanville early childhood pta. Their first meeting for this year is this Wed. Go to the website for more info. Also, consider kindermusik. It is a music class that starts very early (I think around 4months). Anyway, you can go to their website to find a class near you. We are enrolled in the Arlington class with a teacher named Sheila. It starts this Thursday. I would be VERY interested in starting a playgroup in this area, but I'm not sure how well a crawer and a walker would play together. Good luck. Emai me if you have any questions or would like to meet somewhere for a playdate.
We live in south Dallas and I agree that it is very difficult to find great family activities. We put our daughter in The Little Gym program (they are located in the Target shopping center in Cedar Hill). Your daughter would be eligible at 9 months - we joined when our daughter was twelve months old and I wish we had joined earlier. I watched the infants in her class develop rapidly, infants who join that early are absolutely fearless. The Little Gym is also a great place to meet other moms, the cost is minimal - I think it runs about $300 a semester.
We also spend a lot of time at the Dallas zoo - a family membership only runs about $60 annually. The children's zoo has a great play area which might provide opportunities to meet other moms.
I am currently on maternity leave still deciding whether or not to go back to my job but I started taking my daughters to the Library in Lancaster to participate in the Summer Reading CLub but they have story times on Tuesday from 10-11am and Thursday 2-3pm.
