Stains on Clothing Caused by Baby Food-especially Carrots

My all time favorite spot remover is the original blue Dawn dish soap. I apply full strength directly to spot then wash in cold. I don't know why it works so well but it's amazing and cheap and I always have it around.

i use a fels naptha bar. it's super cheap, looks like a yellow bar of soap, and can be found in the detergent aisle. just wet the stain, rub the bar into the stained area, then wash as usual. works even better than spray stain removers.

oxy clean is the most amazing thing ever. i fill a pail with water add the recommended amount and soak anything with a stain. if the stain doesn't come out, i know nothing else will get it out and it needs to be tossed. i even (for some reason) saved one of my favorite shirts for years because it had a stain on it that i couldn't get out. a friend recommended oxy clean and i tried it and it got the stain out!!

I use an organic alternative called oxo-brite and soak the bibs and clothes in hot, oxo-brite water. I never worry about leaving them too long because there is no bleach. I usually hand dry them until I have a load of laundry to wash, and then just do laundry as usual. The oxo-brite takes the stains right out! I usually order oxo-brite online, but it can be found at Wal-marts and some other drug stores (call first).

I also use natural and safe laundry products from Melaleuca. Check out www.melaleuca.com They have detergents, stain removers, pre-treatments, etc. and I LOVE their stuff!

You didn't say what you are currently using... I used Shout. Sprayed fairly liberally, rubbed it in and washed the same day if possible. I didn't have stains in any of our kids' baby clothes. (Except the black/brown vitamin supplement that I neglected to get to right away one time).

Shout also makes a heavy duty type (comes in a blue bottle instead of the white) that I have used on some "left on" things that I didn't find right away (my husband's things) and it got them out completely.

Someone mentioned enzymes. I think that is an important factor as well. I use Cheer laundry soap. Not all the laundry soaps have enzymes... I read an article once that said there are only a few... Cheer, Gain, and I think Tide were the big three that did. Maybe that is why they typically cost more?

You may want to try a white bar of soap. I use this on my kids clothes because they suffer from nose bleeds alot. I rub the stain with the bar soap, let it sit for awhile, and then toss it in the wash. I don't know if it will have the same effect on the food stains. Good luck!

I have found for food stains that I need something with enzymes in it. (pet sprays for carpets have them, that is why the carpet cleaner likely works. But regular laundry products have them too.) For the big stains I actually use Era detergent as a spot treatment. I spread a little diluted Era on the spot and let it sit for a couple days. If it doesn't come out in the wash- DON"T dry it, and then I will use Oxyclean to treat the spot. But Oxy can bleach, so use it carefully.

My tried and true method for keeping baby clothes unstained- get the baby naked. We strip my son down to his diaper for every meal at home or at my parents house. I just don't really see any reason not to. And when we are out, I use bigger bibs, they have the big square ones with a hole that you put over their heads, sort of like a hand towel with a hole. I also got one that is a bib with arms you pull on over their clothes and will protect the sleeves.

My sister, with her 17 month old, recommends Dreft. I have seen her get carrots out of white clothes with that. The trick is to get it early. If you can't, soak it. Another treatment, which I love, is soi-love, or d-solve it. Those are my favorites. YOu may need to wash with baby detergent afterwards to remove the traces of the stain remover, but those can get ANYTHING out of clothing. I still use them.

Lay the piece outside in the sun. Works amazingly well on stains.

I always used Spot Shot Carpet Cleaner with my twins. If you spray the stain right away and let it sit a while before washing it should take out almost any stain. My babies were really messy and the Spot Shot worked great.

With my twins, I have always immediately rinsed with hot water, patted dry, and then sprayed Shout! on it. I use the heavy duty stain remover. My boys are 13 months, and have yet to have any permanent stains - food of any kind, poo, or otherwise! I am very particular, as all these clothes are going to be handed down to my cousin's twins, and it has worked every time....even on stains sometimes missed from when DH is taking care of them.

i used shout, and now tide has this stain release stuff you put in with your regular detergent. We've been using shout and that, which has been getting my dd's spagetti sauce stains out really well.
