Stain Removal from Princess Dress

My 2-year old got an adorable white princess dress at Disneyland, and wants to wear it for Halloween. Problem is, there is a huge brown stain going all down the front bodice part - not sure what it is, but it's on the satiny-looking part of the dress. I've tried washing it, using Oxyclean stain remover, soaking it in Woolite...any other ideas? I don't want to trash the dress by running it through the washer over and over, but I'd like to get at least some of the stain out. I'd appreciate any ideas! Thanks!

What can I do next?

For really stubborn stains I've soaked things overnight in a combination of very hot water, 2 parts chlorox color-safe bleach POWDER and 1 part Cascade (in the green box) powder. Sometimes I have to do this for several nights. Then rinse really well. Most should come out. If the stain is still stubbornly in the dress, I then put the color-safe liquid bleach on the stain and let the garment dry completely. BUT DON'T PUT IT IN THE DRYER. If you've put the garment through the dryer, you may have "set" the stain.

Good luck!

Carbona stain removers, available at JoAnn Fabrics and Hancock Fabrics, are hands-down the best. You might consider using the stain-specific products for fruit stains, sauce stains, or grease stains if you have any idea what caused the stain, or the general stain treatment if you don't. Or a combination of the above. I have used all of the stain removers and these products are unequivocally the best on the market, bar none. Skip the nonsense you get at the grocery store.

Hello G.! Not sure if it will work but it's worth a try...

I had a stain that wouldn't come out. I sprayed Folex on it and dabbed it with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Took a few minutes but the whole thing came out and you can't tell anything was ever there. The Folex loosened the stain and the Mr. Clean "sucked" it up. Happy stain removal!!!

I know your probably looking for a home remedy, but if it was something she would hate to see ruined you might want to consider getting it dry cleaned. I know it sounds funny for a halloween costume, but they have a cleaning station that has their own chemicals. They will run it through the dry cleaner again if thats what they think will get it out. I don't know what the charge would be for a small dress, but I'd guess around $5.

GL!!

PS. just cause I worked at a dry cleaners years ago, do I know this stuff.

I've had really good luck with the OXYclean powder. I put a scoop of the oxy with really hot water and soak the garment. I keep doing this...sometimes three or four times, soaking for a day at a time, and it has worked. One time my son had left an ink pen in the pocket of a dress shirt. He had just started a new job, and the washer was full of brand new dress shirts, and they all were covered with ink. I tried everything(drycleaners, bleach, etc.) and the oxy method worked on every shirt except for one shirt was left with a small stain near the bottom edge. If this doesn't work, what if you took some lace or soft net material and just made a gathered "apron" over that section of the dress. Those dresses seem to always have several layers to them. I am a preschool teacher, and so I am always mending our dress up dresses.

Hi G.,

When I had my baby and was complaining about not getting out diaper mess stains, one of my friends recommended putting stain remover on the stain and then setting the garment out in the sun. It worked wonders on almost everything I tried.

Good luck!

I sprinkle baking soda on the stain and wet it into a paste. Rub it in to pull out the stain. Also, I've heard about lemon juice that someone else mentioned. It works better if you let it dry in the sun after you put on the juice.

The longer you soak with oxy, the better. oxy takes time.

You might try getting it dry cleaned. They could have something that works for that kind of fabric.

I've bleached white things before and haven't ruined anything yet, although I've never tried it on satin. The bleach pens work really well.

Welllllll, if you run out of ideas on how to get the stain out, consider buying some of that white cloth that tutu's are made of (looks like screen door material-sorry I forget what it is called) which is super inexpensive, and wrap it around her creatively to disguise the stain!

If it's white, could you just get a q tip and spot it with clorox bleach? Also, I spot treat with oxyclean. I put some powder on the stain, spray it with water and let it sit. Takes out my baby's green poop stains. :) Good luck! I also like Zout.

I have had wonderful results with the oxy until the other day I came across a stain that would not come out and I mixed the oxy (sprayed it on first) then my other stain remover ( happened to be an Amway product) the stain came right out. So combine and see what happens.

My mother got blood on her white pillow case and someone told her to use Hydrogen peroxide on it. She said It worked really well. So I guess it couldn't hurt since you can't use it this way. Another thought is to maybe dye it? Maybe a nice creamy brown?? good luck, K. K.

Put some lemon juice on it, rub it in with a toothbrush or your finger and let it sit. Then fill your sink with warm water and rinse it in there. Let it sit, if the stain still hasn't come out then put some oxyclean on it the same way with the toothbrush, and then rinse it in the sink with warm water. Good luck
