Ok I noticed this last night when my 2yr old started telling me his peepee hurt, I looked at the area and just noticed a red spot so I treated with zinc med. for diaper rash, well the sitter called about it today. When I got home I looked at the area again closer and he has this red spot no bigger than a quarter (red)in the center of this is a white spote and then a very little pin point red dote. I was extremly fussy, tired even after good night sleep and nap, and had water like brown diareha. So I took him to the nurse practioner due to the time she was the only availbe, she tells me its exzema (spelling may be off)which my oldest has that and it looks nothing like this spot, I tried explaing that he dont complain of iching he cries that it hurts. I did pull tick off his neck a couple of wks ago, so I brought the scare of lime disease she wouldn't even look at me. Am I crazy and just tuck my tail and listen to what she said or has anyone else ever see similar on themselves or children. Please help any and all advise would be great.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

First off thank you to all you great moms out there your advise was greatly appreciated. I did take him back into another hosp. that night, they advised that it was a spider bite and was given the correct med. the spot is almost gone feeling a little better still kind of yucky but I am to take him back tomorrow to get a check up on the bite.
I did take the advise bout nurse practioners and will just stick with our family doctor or the er if unable to get in. The treatment from our np here has just put a bad look on her from me.
Again thank you all very much HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TOO ALL OF YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the spot is getting bigger, I would try to get into the Dr. You could try antibiotic ointment to see if the red spot responds at all. If it is a spider bite, you don't want to wait very long.

If you pulled a tick off of him, he can be tested for lyme disease. It is a specific test and you need to ask the DR for it - if they dont' respond, you might have to go to the ER. Lyme disease is serious business - let the
DR know you want him checked

My son had a spider bite on his arm, just in front of his armpit. It looked much like what you described, but I would not trust momasource responses to properly diagnose this.

We go to health practitioners that always use the most natural approaches first. We were told to give him pro-biotics, vitamin C, and calcium, and to apply Prid Salve to the area and cover it with gauze bandaging. (Prid Salve is a drawing agent) It healed up within a few days very nicely. Since this is in an area that may be difficult to keep clean, I would wash it with a dilution of whitchazel first. You should be able to get both Prid Salve and whitchazel from any drugstore. They used to always have it out on the shelf when I was a child, but when we went to get it for our son, we learned that Walgreens keeps it behind the pharmacy counter (which makes no sense to me).

In the beginning it was very scary because my son said it hurt and made his whole arm tingle. Many people gave us many scary thoughts. Find a diagnostician who is compitent and encourages you and your family. Being afraid never helps anything heal. Our bodies really are designed to handle most of what we are exposed to from day to day. Sometimes it just needs a little help to do what it is already trying to do rather than medications that take over and do it for us. Most of those types of meds cause other problems that throw things off balance in the body. We always tried to do things that helped our sons body learn to take care of itself. He is a remarkably healthy young man today.

Hope this helps.

MW, My 4 year old had something like this on her upper thigh last fall/winter. It was very firm/hard/warm to the touch and it popped some hard puss/that ended up being a brownish shade because it was mixed with blood. It did not seem to get better with med or keeping it clean and bandage and we called our dr and they sent us to their after hours clinic and they prescribed an antibiotic to fight that super staph bug that has been going around the US. It healed up after a few days. Good luck and definitly get a second opinion.

Hi, I hope your son is doing better now. But, if he isn't take him to a dermetologist. It could be a staphlococi infection. Or a fungle infection. Pay attention to if he has the slightest fever. You do not want something like this to spread or become systemic (get internal or in the bloood stream). Yeast and fungi love moist locations and staphlococi like that location too. Staph is painful. Please, don't let this go on without another opinion espesially not just a nurse practioner.

M W,
At first I thought of a spider bite. I would think that dry skin would occur in areas first like the arms, legs, ect. If you are familiar with what eczama (sp?) looks like, and you don't feel comfortable with the diagnosis, go see a dermatologists. If you live in springfield,Mo., it's hard to get in to see one, you have to wait a month, with Penella. Anytime there is something on the skin and they don't know what it is, they call it contact dermatitis. If it's a spider bite, it's usually obvious. Remember, when you make an appointment to see a doctor, you can say you want to see the doctor only, you might have to wait, but if you feel better with him, wait. Go with your gut feeling always.

I agree with the others. If you don't think the diagnosis is correct, definitely get another opinion!!! Your instincts are not wrong. We were on vacation a few years ago and went to the ER with my son in New Jersey just before heading out of town. They told us my son had dermititis. We left, but it just didn't feel right and he was getting worse and worse. By that evening we were in Ohio and we went to another ER and sure enough he had a very serious rare Staph infection and he was in the hospital for 3 days. Go with your instincts, better safe than sorry.

I would suggest you take your son back to the doctor and insist that they make sure this spot is not from a spider bite, an infected tick bite - and yes, he could have the beginnings of Lyme disease -- you absolutely don't want to go down that road and it is "fixable" at this point - early on. So be very assertive and make the doctor look at it. Go to the County Health Care Center if you have to, but make sure your son is all right.

I had the same problem with one of my 6 yr old twin daughters. She had a spot on her shoulder that hd a red round rash type circle around a smaller white circle and pinpoint in the middle. I took her to the emergency room because the area was very feverish and she started getting a rash up and down her legs. The ER doc barely looked at her and said it was a spider bite. Gave her antibiotis and sent us on our way. I got on the internet and looked up spider and tick bites. I got really concerned because the bite looked just like a lymes disease infected tick bite. So I took her to the pediatrician who agreed that it looked like that. So she perscribed an additional antibiotic. Lymes disease can be a terrible disease that attacks all the systems. So you should definately get a second opinion immediately. Never can be too careful!

Good Morning MW. Take your son to his Dr. Our youngest gr. son had a spot on his leg and the diaper kept it oozy and red, it had a white hard tip on it. One night I was babysitting at their home and bathed him the spot was really oozy and I wiped it off and a hard ball of pus came out. It bled for a while and I covered it with med band aid. He was 4 months. It left a hole in his leg. I took him to the Dr. on Monday and told Dr. Augustin what we had been doing for it, the hard knot was the size of the end of your little finger. He said we had done everything right.

He explained everyone has bacteria on their skin some never do anything to us and some can cause really bad problems. such as the MRSA and other sicking things. The spot has healed but it left a dark spot on his leg where the hole was. He now has what Dr A described as a yeast infection across his diaper area and lower tummy he scratches it constantly. Dr gave my daughter in law a script for a antibiotic salve to put on it, it's going away slowly. He is 6 months now.

I would take your son to his Pedi. and let him know your concerns as soon as possible.

Keep us informed please, will be praying it is nothing serious.

P.S. It does take about two to three weeks for symptoms to show up.........so the time frame fits.

My doctor has told me that "Mom usually knows best" so if I am ever worried or concerned about something, I will tell her and only her, I won't bother with the nurse practitioners. I would make another appointment to see his pediatrician and demand that you get the pediatrician. If I am correct, nurse practitioners are not allowed to diagnose or dismiss people, only a doctor is. On another note, about the rash, I have recently taken my son to the doctor with a similar sounding rash and I was told that he had a Strep A rash, the same strain of strep that causes strep throat. If he does have a strep A rash, you need to get him on antibiotics immediately because the doctor was very concerned about the area of where the rash was. I am severly afraid of ticks and spiders also, you never know what they are going to give your child. I wish you the best of luck and I am going to pray that it isn't anything worse than a diaper rash, eczema, or a yeast infection.

Sounds more like an abcess to me. My daughter has had a few of them, she was lucky and just had normal staph growth, not MRSA, but it should probably be lanced and cultred. Lyme disease would have a target rash, red bullseye in the spot where you removed the tick. If he starts running a high fever take him to the urgi care or ER, normal staph can typically run its course but does much better when drained and started on antibiotics, definately call the doctor and get a second opinion, that does NOT sound like eczema.

Good luck.

I'm not in the medical field AT ALL so take this with a grain of salt... Anyway, from how you've described it, it sounds like what they say for a spider bite- redness and white around and flu-like symptoms. Children's Hospital has a nurses' line, I would call them for help and/or take him to the ER.

If it hurts it is probably something different and they need to do a swap test to rule out strep, bacterial/viral infections, etc. Something similar happened to a friend of mine and her doctor told her not to worry so she went to a pediatric dermatologist and found out he was growing out strep! Good thing she didn't wait the 2 weeks. I hope it all goes well and don't feel bad going to a different doctor :)

My nephew had spots similiar to what you are describing just about a week ago. I mentioned to my sister that he might have ringworm (only a fungus) and when she took him in, it was confirmed. The doc said that it was very likely ringworm but that if it didn't clear with the medication, then she would treat it as eczema. That may be where your NP got the eczema thing, but maybe you should take him back and question if it really could be ringworm instead.
